  1. I really don't know much about Breslow in this sort of role. I usually say I trust the Sox brass knows what they are doing, but I'm having my doubts, these days.
  2. There are many owners in MLB who are rich enough to spend more and more, but choose not to do it. They pocket as much as they can. Some even pocket revenue sharing. This is nothing new in the business world. We all question why JH feels the need to cut the player salary budget, from time to time. I sometimes wonder, if we all also question why other companies maximize profits at the expense of paying their workers more money.
  3. You don't accept the reasoning for budget cuts, or that they actually happened?
  4. The comment was made to am poster who said the team's owner made money. Cutting a budget is one way owners make more money, right?
  5. The podcast spoke of players facing a "pivotable off season:" (Some points and quotes) Bryan Mata: out of options, so he needs to make the 26 man roster. Could he be traded? Might we keep him on the 40, until ST'ing, at least? Bleis: Did not look all that good, last ST'ing, and now the injury "dropped his stock" quite a bit. Hickey: His time as a catcher might be over. 129 SB Against with just 10 CS. Drohan: Needs to find a 4th pitch or choose between the slider and cutter and perfect one. Song: needs to put in some work to get back to close to his 2019 self. He turns 27 in May. Needs to "figure out who he is..."
  6. Soxprospects.com released a podcast that discusses how it looks like an overhaul of the pitching development system is underway. http://news.soxprospects.com/2023/10/podcast-ep-298-search-is-on.html
  7. I think Hagenman might be protected. Luis de la Rosa was my sleeper prospect for a while, but I doubt anyone grabs him. I think Stephen Scott may be the only non pitcher protected, but there seems to be many of his types out there for the grabbing, who don't need a 40 man roster slot. I doubt we start the season with just 2 catchers on the roster, so that is why I mentioned him.
  8. I'm thinking maybe 5-6 prospects will be protected from Rule 5. Those in red plus 1-2 others in bold.
  9. Rule 5 Eligible: December 2023 Rivaldo Avila Angel Bastardo Brock Bell Royman Blanco Brainer Bonaci Zach Bryant Maceo Campbell Allan Castro Brendan Cellucci Felix Cepeda Juan Chacon Casey Cobb Nathanael Cruz Luis De La Rosa Nick Decker Kelvin Diaz Jordan DiValerio Shane Drohan Juan Daniel Encarnación Alex Erro Albert Feliz Ryan Fernandez Ryan Fitzgerald Grant Gambrell Jhostynxon Garcia Wikelman Gonzalez Bryan Gonzalez Justin Hagenman Alexis Hernandez Gabriel Jackson Lyonell James Gilberto Jimenez Christian Koss Robert Kwiatkowski Chih-Jung Liu Eduardo Lopez Matthew Lugo Elih Marrero Yorberto Mejicano Ryan Miller Andrés Núñez Yusniel Padron-Artiles Eddinson Paulino Zach Penrod Luis Perales Railin Perez AJ Politi Jose Ramirez Oscar Rangel Jorge Rodriguez Ronald Rosario Cesar Ruiz Johnfrank Salazar Stephen Scott Cody Scroggins Reidis Sena Chase Shugart Karson Simas Nick Sogard Noah Song Dylan Spacke Joey Stock Luis Talavera Nate Tellier Michael Valera Brian Van Belle Diego Viloria Jeremy Wu-Yelland Ryan Zeferjahn
  10. Indeed. I think the splurge in spending from 2016 to 2018 paid off, and the budget cuts afterwards likely paid off, too.
  11. I remember thinking the Yanks were toast after Martin and Jackson went after each other in the dugout. It was after they won, I started doubting the whole "team chemistry" concept.
  12. That was wild. Then, Click argued that Vaz should play more, but Dusty refused. I guess Dusty believes in CERA-related skills more than Click.
  13. They seem to thrive when their backs are against the wall.
  14. Another unnecessary and off track post. I did not know only posts higher ranked in pertinence (by you) were allowed. I'm not aware of calling out any posters for not being sociable or as sociable than I, but your deflection is duly noted..
  15. I was following along, and know exactly what was said. I get the context of your statement, but felt my comment was pertinent. I responded with a totally appropriate statement to your comment. Your last comment was "off track" and unnecessary.
  16. A lot of dumb and in between people have zero people skills, too. I'm not sure one group has a higher percentage or not. Maybe it's just that we expect better from "smarter" people.
  17. I was wondering about that assumption, too.
  18. Of my sisters? No. All of my 5 sisters are very smart. In some areas some are much smarter than I. In others, maybe not. We all get along, which is no small miracle for a family so opinionated and outspoken as we all are.
  19. My two eldest sisters went to Yale. There are many kinds of "smart."
  20. +It seems there are already too many hands in the decision making. Why add another one?
  21. So, no "disrupt family" excuse is readily available for him. I'm assuming he'll have no excuses, because he'd jump at any GM opportunity in MLB.
  22. GMs are let go, all the time. It's nothing new. It comes with the territory. No doubt, the Sox have had more turnover in the last 12 years than most other teams, and in some cases 3 more changes. I'm sure thinking you may be uprooting your family in 4 years might play a part in your choice, and does seem to be the "easy excuse" for saying no, but I'm not sure it's the number one factor for most of the "no's" we've gotten, so far. For all we know, some who have backed away might have asked about the plan on spending over the next few years and not liked the answer. You can't exactly tell the media, "I didn't take the job/interview because they said they were not going to spend." They also cannot say, "I wanted to hire my own manager, and JH wouldn't let me."
  23. It's hard to know how any person we pick will work out or not, especially those with very little or no experience being a GM. I just hope the pick the right guy- someone who takes a balanced approach, but I guess that part comes from the top. The budget will be a major component of how well the next GM can do out of the gates and going forward. If there was some sort of moratorium on trading top prospects, I wonder how long that goes on, too. IMO, whoever comes in may have to deal with some dysfunction or micromanaging from above, but the person will have a decent 26 and 40 man roster foundation (minus 3 SPers needed) and a well-regarded farm (minus many promising pitching prospects.) It's not the task handed to Bloom, but it will have a share of major challenges to overcome. Let's hope this one meets and exceeds those challenges.
  24. Damn Astros pulled off a nice win on the road.
  25. It was a worthy sacrifice.
