  1. Lineups posted yet? i expect to see one Mr. David Ortiz back in the lineup. wondering if they will flip-flop shaw and hanram? JBj back to 9-hole?
  2. thanks for welcoming us! Go Sox!
  3. truth. any others come to mind?
  4. agreed - no absolutes. but the landscape both present and past is littered with Managers with experience that are terrible at their job. i simply used Bobby V as an example we would all agree did a terrible job.
  5. Pretty sure the Angels won a WS by repeatedly walking Mr. Barry Bonds.
  6. fair enough. but by that thought process Bobby Valentine had a ton of coaching experience....
  7. Lovullo probably earned the next shot with the way the team played during JF cancer time but i wouldnt mind at all if they gave Tek the reigns....
  8. with DD at the helm 1 or more will be gone by end of July.
  9. IMO A HoF manager is worth +5 to +10 wins in a season. so in reality he is only about 4-5% better than a crappy skipper. football is more impact because: 16 game season.
  10. GAME 20 - JBj JBj: 1-4 / RBI / RS JE: 0-4 Score: JBj: 10 JE: 5 Tie: 5
  11. believe it or not that was a Giambi. not the cheating good one.
  12. he was 0.4 WAR for 2015. i'm not sure that is solidly above replacement, but it is above a minor leaguer.
  13. a quick look at BR: vaz: 1.3 dwar in 62 games played / 52% CS rate! / Rdrs: 7 Swi: -0.4 dwar in 90 games played / 28% CS rate / Rdrs: -17
  14. too sss to use stats IMO. it is purely based on what i have seen. just look at the confidence Vaz exudes when behind the dish. I can see it. certainly his pitchers can see it. his pitchers have to feel that and have to be more confident burying an offspeed pitch in the dirt knowing he WILL block it. yes, he does give up the occasional PB because he is framing (or presenting) the pitch. but the strikes (and backwards K's) he steals more than make up for the occasional PB. Swihart on the flipside has not looked comfortable to me behind the plate. he wasn't "born" to be a catcher but he certainly can develop into an above average receiver. this season in AAA will be very good for his growth as a catcher. i just hope the FO doesnt waste too much of his time in LF. his value is as a C (whether we keep him or trade him). fwiw - i am not trying to teardown swihart. i truly believe he will be an above average catcher at the MLB level. he just needs a bit more time to develop defensively. Vaz on the otherhand was born to squat.
  15. room to improve. and he will improve. Varitek was still in AA ball at Swihart's age.....
  16. FWIW - defense up the middle was less important to a teams success during the Steroids Era. now that pitchers have a chance again the middle defense is paramount.
  17. dang....so true. it always seems like we struggle against pitchers we are seeing for the first time. i will take another 1-0 win though!
  18. Hey SY, good to see you over here. there are certain times that i may highlight something as you state in parenthesis. for example game 13 when JBj got the only RS hit. but it wont normally affect (or is effect??) the outcome of the scoring as in all fairness while i watch every inning of the Red Sox i do not watch every inning of the MFY so am not able to always confirm if JE does something extraordinary.
  19. GAME 19 - JBj JBj: 1-4 / RBI / RS JE: 0-4 / GIDP Score: JBj: 9 JE: 5 Tie: 5
  20. Greetings all. Since BDC is shutting down in a month I thought I would start the Slasher Tracker thread over here. For those that don't know about this thread, I started a thread for the past 3 years since the EE signed Ellsbury. there were some posters on BDC that thought the Red Sox FO should have outbid the Yankees for Ellsbury. I was adamant that we made the correct decision in letting him walk. The plan is to compare the daily stats game by game of the 2 starting center fielders. 2014 matched up Ells v Sizemore. that didn't last long. Last year's matchup was Ells v Mookie. I have copied over the opening post to the thread from BDC: (please note I am not going to copy over every post up until this point in the season - my next post in this thread will be Game 19.) current thread on BDC for anyone that wants to see the previous 18 games: http://www.boston.com/community/forums/sports/red-sox/on-the-front-burner/jbj-vs-ellsbury-tracker-2016/100/8898135?page=3 A brand new season brings us a brand new CF matchup. Coming off his dominating beatdown of Ellsbury in 2015 Mr. Mookie Betts has shifted over to RF giving one last shot to our defensive superhero Jackie Bradley Jr. to take the reigns as the starting CFer for the Boston Red Sox. This tracker will run very similar to last years matchup with scoring and day-to-day stats. As always i am more than happy to review a particular day if a fellow poster disagrees with my ruling. Good luck to both participants. (well, not really. i hope JE gets smoked again). 2015 Final Tally: MB: 74.5 ST (Slasher Tracker) score / 6.0 WAR JE: 48.0 ST score / 1.9 WAR 2015 thread: http://www.boston.com/community/forums/sports/red-sox/on-the-front-burner/mookie-vs-ellsbury-tracker-2015/100/7971768 2016 Final Tally: JBj: 87 ST (Slasher Tracker) score / 5.3 WAR JE: 56 ST score / 2.8 WAR JBj: $547,000 JE: $21,142,857 2015 & 2016 Combined: MB/JBj: 161.5 ST score / 11.3 WAR JE: 104 ST score / 4.7 WAR MB/JBj: $1,061,500 JE: $42,285,714
