  1. we should be able to get a pretty good pitching stud with swihart and espi. oh wait...nevermind. thanks DD.....
  2. hes not a FA until 2021. a 5 or 6 year deal now would be silly IMO. after the '19 season is the time to lock down a 6 year deal.
  3. i will care about his gold glove when he wins a playoff game....
  4. i think its the he did it with two different long suffering franchises that's the key. as much as i wanted to call Theo the Greatest GM of all time back in 2004 i decided to wait until he did it with the Cubs too.
  5. to me it's the opposite. when you have no choices you cant really mess up. Signing Jackie Robinson was easy. He was a 28 year old baseball stud living in the suburbs of CT. putting a contract in front of him was a layup. now if you want to talk about what jackie did, went through, and accomplished then yes we are talking about enormous credit.
  6. when you can only build your team with 10 choices instead of 110 choices there is less chance to make the wrong choice.
  7. white only baseball. pre crazy contract $$$ baseball. pre FA baseball. i cant give any GM from the "olden days" the same credit as someone that is doing it now. there are so many more layers today. international, free agent, budgets, etc. theo epstein is the greatest GM of all time. that ever was. and ever will be. so it is written. so it shall be.
  8. it's not even debatable. he ended 194 combined years of pain. if you think otherwise i am sorry but you are wrong. or a MFY fan.
  9. something tells me jackson was one of those MFY fans that was spewing the "even a blind squirrel finds a nut every 86 years" mantra after the 2004 season....
  10. and when it mattered most: 2.1IP / 4H / 2ER
  11. we dont have unlimited budget. who does his contract replace? also, do you think having him at $50MM makes a difference with how our postseason played out this year or our last place finish in 2015? Kimbrell was a double pay. it was reason #83 for me DD is no Theo.
  12. hopefully he plays as much winterball as Sandy Leon did last winter....
  13. i would have understood if he pitched the 9th inning with the team up by 4 runs or less. outside of that it was a egregious error with a game 7 happening the very next night. again, none of it matters because the cubs won. but i am 100% comfortable saying that the Cubs won in spite of Maddon.
  14. i would rank having chapman pitch game 6 (and even worse...more than 1 inning) when up by 5 runs was the winner for me.
  15. how about lester got exactly what Theo sold him. "sign with the cubs and bring the WS championship to the longest suffering fans". grady little, i mean maddon almost ruined it for them.
  16. that was my #1 postgame observation.
  17. LOL! add "drink some moonshine and shoot stuff" and you nailed it....
  18. 100% agree. Go Kimmi & Slasher!
  19. in all fairness there was that time with the gorilla suit....
  20. Rajai a CT boy. was happy for him after a pretty terrible series at the dish.
  21. take away the unnecessary MFY fan first sentence and the above post is perfect. also: lol @ youk. i can totally picture that!
  22. i posted this on another thread but probably should have gone here: First off - Congrats to cubs. That was an EPIC game. I am worn out this morning. Some observations: • Cubs won game 7 in spite of Maddon. His decision making was terrible. Especially how he used the Pen. • In their last 2 world series appearances the Guardians have lost a game 7 in extra innings. Ouch. • Mother nature is a cubs fan. That rain delay helped them immensely. • Theo Epstein has to go down immediately as the greatest GM of all time. He was at the helm to break the Red Sox 86 year drought and the Cubs 108 year. • Ben Zobrist getting the MVP is a joke. He didn’t even have the game winning RBI like everyone is reporting. He should give the Camaro to Rizzo or Schwarber. • This series was a blessing for MLB. Baseball is back in a big way. • 3 months until pitchers and catchers. I cannot wait.
  23. 2 out of 7 is still a pretty persuasive argument. i was def one of the HFA is important people and maybe i was wrong.....
