  1. dont come at me with WAR anymore...your f***ed. http://www.highheatstats.com/2012/07/wins-above-replacement-war-vs-wins-above-average-waa/ In my work, I’m not building rosters, I’m trying to figure out who the greatest players of all time were. For this reason, WAA might be a better metric for me to use than WAR. When considering someone for the Hall of Fame, do you say “Wow, he was so much better than the AAA players of his day?” or “Wow, he was so much better than everyone else?” I find WAA is a better way to measure how much a player was better than “everyone else”. Why? WAR rewards you for just being there. WAA does not. 62% of WAR is Just Showing Up For Pete Rose, it was. Pete Rose was worth 76.7 WAR for his career. But he was also worth just 29.2 WAA. That’s a huge difference. Take Charlie Keller. He’s on the opposite end of the spectrum. Keller was worth 40.6 WAR, but 29.0 WAA. Yes, King Kong Keller’s WAA was about the same as Pete Rose’s. What’s happening here? Rose played forever (15,890 PA). Keller didn’t (4,604 PA). WAR rewards you for playing time, as long as you’re better than a AAA player. WAA, meanwhile, will rip you apart if you’re below average.
  2. Sale 5.3 Severino 2.7 verlander 2.9 degrom 5.9 WAA
  3. this is why i dont get the love for DD. he did absolutely nothing to address our RP situation in a year that we have a very legitimate shot at a parade.
  4. plus the name itself is deceiving. what if my replacement is Acuna?
  5. he's signed through 2020 so he's got some time before that sept callup...
  6. perhaps it was his decision not to play as he gets paid either way.
  7. do you believe in the mental aspect of hitting? if you do, then 100% JD has improved the lineup through "protection". the players around him believe it so that belief translates to mental confidence. that confidence translates into better AB's. better AB's = "protection". if you dont believe hitting is part mental, then.......
  8. if you just look at this one game (which was the point of my post) he was completely outmanaged.
  9. i agree. which is why i brought up Cora bringing kimbrel in for a 4 out save in April/May.
  10. 1. closer (i am not advocating LTC for anyone - re: kimbrel) 2. RP 3. 2nd base (IMO pedroia is done and holt/nunez are terrible defensively to have this position FT) 4. 1st base (Moreland is getting older and his knees are already an issue and no way is pearce the replacement) 5. SP (you can never have enough)
  11. 15-Aug Cora was completely outmanaged by another rookie manager - Kapler. Kapler used his pen perfectly. Cora sat on his hands while Pom imploded. Perhaps this was just the result of the Sox being 10 games up and the Phillies chasing the braves but it still bears acknowledgement in this thread.
  12. and yet he has used Kimbrel in 4 out save situations multiple times this season. this does not compute.
  13. Terrible approach by beni
  14. Hopefully their closer acts like kimbrel for a 4 out save....
  15. X gonna give it to ya
  16. JDM is like mongo. See ball....hit ball.
  17. I still wish we had Espinoza on the DL instead of Pom on the 25 man....
