  1. Duran, lefty bat vs righty pitcher, aggressively swings at the first pitch well out side the strike zone. The Sox look like crap, but a lot of that is because Oveido working the edges.
  2. In the replay Narvaez doesn't even look like he is swinging hard on the dinger. Anthony Ks twice on a total of 7 pitches.
  3. Way to go, Narvaez!!! The polar opposite of dirtbag Gonzalez in this game.
  4. Oviedo is doing a great job of working the edges of the strike zone.
  5. Plus Gonzalez made the error that led to the unearned run and then struck with men on 1b and 2b. That was a short paternity leave.
  6. Those lovely numbers ignore that the Sox OPS's are worse in August and that 2 of the 6 ain't here today. Abreu with his freaking tight calf muscle is not expected back until the 10th.
  7. To me the only real concern is the hitting/scoring. Season to date the Sox overall OPS is .748 and with RISP it's .746. With runners on base it's .756.
  8. Mayer's wrist was waiting to go bad. He should have had surgery the first time 2 or 3 years ago. I agree his loss is significant. He sure wasn't hitting lefties, but his righty OPS was .739 and his defense excellent in just 44 games. Hamilton's August OPS is an insane 1.076 and he is our best defensive 2b. He and Gonzalez are a good fix at 2b and, when he returns, Lowe is at 1b. In 67 games Anthony's WAR is an insane 3.1. As you predicted, he has tied Bregman in OPS and should go right past him in the Pirates series. His one "flaw" is that he doesn't hit the green monster enough.
  9. My realistic view of the 2025 Sox is that they are in a good spot but with a lot of work still to be done. Their hitting is suspect and the pitching is not. Last night they added a 5th starter, Tolle, who, despite his pitch limitation, makes this the best Sox rotation in decades. Weissert stunk last night, but overall the bullpen has been good. But the hitting/scoring in August has not been good. Abreu will be out maybe another 2 weeks. Lowe is on paternity leave. Bregman is in a slump (OPS .768 in August), and so are Gonazlez (.702), Duran (.689), Yoshida (.619), Rafaela (.591), and Wong/Narvaez (.591/.513),
  10. My impression is that Anthony is a good outfielder, but determined to avoid injury--because his hitting benefits the team far more than his defense.
  11. Major, shmajor. Lots of K's come from pitches a foot or more outside the strike zone. We've all seen Anthony K on a pitch in the dirt. So has Bregman. Story and Duran lead the Sox in K's with 152 and 142. Rafaela has 95. Abreu has 93 and has played in 12 fewer games than Rafaela. Anthony, our best hitter right now, has K'd 77 times in just 67 games.
  12. Here are August OPS's and games played in August-- Hamilton 1.076, 9 games Anthony .957, 24 games Refsnyder .924, 7 games Lowe .856, 9 games Abreu .832, 14 games Story .818. 26 games Bregman .768, 26 games Gonzalez .702, 21 games Duran .689, 24 games Yoshida .619, 20 games Rafaela .597, 26 games Wong/Narvaez, .591/.513, 28 games Toro .406, 14 games Wong and Narvaez, .591 and .513 (14 games each) Hamilton's August OPS is 1.076 in 9 games. Ref's is .924 in 7 games. Lowe's is .856 in 9 games. Abreu's is .832 in 14 games
  13. Yesterday was memorable both for the starters and eventually for the Sox ineptitude at the plate yet again. The Pirates, the worst hitting team in MLB, had 4 doubles last night and two of them were hard hit and off of Weissert, who has a lot to answer for. Last night was his 6th blown save this season.
  14. Maybe the velocity is why he lacks control and a good curve/slider/changeup/whatever.
  15. Not unreasonable. However, we do know the bullpen stunk tonight as did the hitting.
  16. He's there for the crucial experience of pitching in MLB, not to go to 100 pitches for the first time ever. As it was, he went over his planned number of 72. The bullpen stunk. So did the hitting.
  17. This game was absolutely, positively on the hitting and the bullpen. I like Wong, but tonight he was 0/4. The Sox had one stinking ER in 9 IP--rookie Anthony's dinger in the 5th off Skenes, no less. Anthony and Bregman both had GIDP's. Sox were 1/7 with RISP.
  19. Tolle and the Sox defense looked good early on. The hitting stunk yet again and so did the bullpen (which has been great). So, me, I'm grateful the Jays and Mariners are losing, but the Yankees are killing the White Sox and will pass us tonight.
  20. Your fav Rafaela did him one better. Looked at 2 called strikes then swung at a pitch very low and very outside. The first pitch was fat--right down the middle. Sox lineup scored 1 ER in 9 innings. Pathetic. Tolle looked terrific.
  21. You think I like Weissert? I don't. I'm just explaining why he got sent out--low ERA and righty going against righty bats. 5 relievers tonight: Weissert gave up 3 runs (2 counting against Tolle), Slaten gave up 2 hit and a walk but no runs. Hicks gave up a run. Wilson got 2 outs and no one on base. Bernardino gave up a double and a walk but escape. So this was by no means the great Sox bullpen tonight. That said, I agree with everyone that the hitting stinks yet again.
  22. Agree. The offense lately is anemic. Tonight it's 1 ER in 8 IP so far. Terrible.
  23. Wilson did well, I agree. But Weissert's ERA was under 3 and he was going in against an all righty bat Pirates lineup.
