  1. I try not to let realism get in the way of my fandom. That said, after JD signed last year, I was really over the moon about this team and thought they could win 110 games. I tempered my expectations, trying to be realistic, and said 100, and it turned out closer to my first impulse. So, screw realism, I say Eovaldi is an All-Star 15+ game winner next year.
  2. I think Kelly comes back, and the three of them compete for the closer’s role in spring training.
  3. Thanks! I think under $17 million per year is a bargain.
  4. Those last two seem to be Cora's signature "quick hook". Giving up a couple runs early on and then settling down is pretty common for a starting pitcher.
  5. Eovaldi loves throwing to Sandy Leon. I can't see making a catching change now.
  6. Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. There are a fair number of star pitchers who finally "figured it out" around age 29. I agree, I do think Eovaldi may be one of those guys. He certainly has the stuff. I think the concern is more health-related than concerns about mediocrity.
  8. Let's see. I was in this article for one. https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2018/12/04/nathan-eovaldi-red-sox "His stuff and his makeup are clearly outstanding, and the fresh memory of his postseason excellence has brought him several suitors, including the Yankees. The suggestion in September that he might get $15 million a year now seems quaint." But that's not quite what I'm thinking of. Hmm...
  9. His woes have continued with the Yankees. And 2 injury shortened seasons is a lot!
  10. Houston badly needs a quality starting pitcher. I doubt we would want to match their offer. I read somewhere today the bidding's gone over $20 million per year for his services.
  11. Remember how mad we all were at the manager whose name I already forget for letting Wright pinch run and get injured? Now we know that Wright is one of those always injured kind of guys. In fact, we should do the oft-injured Sox team: Wright, SP Bucholz, SP Jacoby Ellsbury, CF Trot Nixon, RF Tim Naehring, 3B etc.
  12. Sure let them get the JA Happs of the world In all seriousness, I do predict Houston gets Eovaldi.
  13. Whether the Sox really need Eovaldi or not, if scooping him up means him not playing for the Astros or Yankees then let's do it.
  14. Oh this could be fun. Let's see, I'll trade jacksonianmarch and mvp78 for Starscream, Soundwave, and a forum poster to be named later
  15. https://www.boston.com/sports/sports-news/2018/12/05/alex-rodriguez-red-sox-trade-2003-yankees. “I think the game felt it, I know I felt it,” Rodriguez said of the disappointment at not going to Boston. “I was saddened by it. I went out one night, there’s this place called Life, and I just got toasted drunk that night. I threw up, I was so bummed. Anyways, I went back home and just dusted off and said let’s go, got to go play ball. And of course the Yankee thing happened. And I think because of that, when I go to Fenway for the first time as a Yankee, I mean, come on. Nothing could be meaner or more cruel. I think that’s where the emotions started.” *** Now I feel bad. I've always enjoyed villainizing A-Rod all of these years. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGRV_enUS786US786&biw=1920&bih=1009&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=5fQHXJCvK8e4gge9i52YBQ&q=alex+rodriguez+slap+play+handbag&oq=alex+rodriguez+slap+play+handbag&gs_l=img.3...15584.16358..16454...0.0..0.50.380.8......1....1..gws-wiz-img.UEyMDupg3n4#imgrc=C1M4t5jnVg78DM:
  16. Apparently Wright expects to be healthy by opening day and wants that 5th starter spot. We'll see...
  17. The Shaw-Thornburg trade is the only real miss I've seen in Dombrowski's tenure so far.
  18. Big, small, whatever; I don't like giving contracts when someone is 30 or less of age that takes them past age 35.
  19. On the flipside, Price is a perfect last name. It makes the headlines so easy. "Price is right", "Price is wrong", "Nothing cheap about Price last start", etc.
  20. I think trading Xander Bogaerts would be more interesting to ponder. Now here's a guy that has a very high return value, and is honestly someone we have maybe only a 50/50 chance of resigning when he's up for free agency. And we could sign Iglesias to play shortstop.
  21. That one didn't turn out well.
  22. If we don't sign Eovaldi, I'm with notin and hope Velazquez gets the 5th spot. If Pedroia can't come back to play 2B, I hope we give Lin a chance.
  23. I can't believe how long this Eovaldi thing is taking. Offseasons are hard.
  24. I liked what I saw from Poyner.
  25. I would like them to sign Eovaldi for 4 years, trade for a closer as you mentioned, and I'm prepared to say goodbye to Chris.
