  1. I thought it was funny. Especially the 3rd time he posted it.
  2. Spud, I hate to say it, but you've done it. You have gone all Fred on me. The good news is, I still love you.
  3. If Pedroia is healthy, as he claims he is, I would expect a rebound from him offensively. He is the last player I would bet against. Even without an offensive rebound, his elite defense makes him well worth his contract and a valuable player. Pedroia is the heart and soul of this team. He is worth more to the Sox than he would be to any other team. Selling low on him would be unwise, for several reasons.
  4. Sounds like a decent depth signing. Couldn't hurt.
  5. I do not like it when Fred is one of the most positive posters on this board!!!!!!!
  6. Geez Spud, it's not all that bad, is it? The Sox might not be "elite" defensively, but they should be very good, with the only possible below average positions being LF and SS. By all accounts, Bogaerts is much improved at SS. Hanley might not be above average, but I can't see him being worse than Gomes. Tub of Goo has shown that he is way more nimble for his size than people give him credit for. If Vazquez is seriously injured, that would be a tough hit to overcome, I'll grant you that. Outside of that, I really am not hearing a lot of hype. Our defense projects to be very good.
  7. This is because some people put far too much emphasis on strikeouts.
  8. Craig is a spare part right now. He could end up being much more than that. Kelly is winning the Cy Young this year. Haven't you heard?
  9. Farrell has stated that Craig is his first option, over Nava, to back up 1B. Management may be looking in that direction.
  10. Agreed. I think some people don't realize how good Craig was before he was injured.
  11. At this juncture, it might not look very fruitful for the Sox, but geez, it is extremely early in the juncture. I would prefer to have Lackey on the team right now, but we have a long way to go before we can determine whether this trade is fruitful for the Sox or not.
  12. I can't see Nava getting DFA'd. Bradley is definitely going down, and right or wrong, I think Castillo is too, simply because he has options. DFA-ing Nava would not be a very smart move.
  13. You could very well be right Ogden. From what I was reading today, it sounded like Victorino could start the season on the DL. He certainly hasn't shown much this spring. All that said, if he is healthy, I still think he is our best option for right field.
  14. Clay was shaky today, but one positive that you can take from his outing is that he apparently was able to make some pitches when he was in a jam. That's not much but it's better than an all out implosion, I guess.
  15. Farrell has been hinting at the possibility that Swihart could be on the big league roster if Vazquez has to start the season on the DL.
  16. He does seem like an expensive 5th outfielder. At the time that he was signed, however, the Sox did not know how well Betts would end up playing, and they also didn't know whether Victorino would come back healthy this year. Castillo may or may not get his fair share of playing time in the bigs this year (I'm guessing he will), but Victorino will be gone next year, and Castillo should be a very good and fairly inexpensive OFer for several years.
  17. I'm hoping that JBJ was humbled by his struggles last year, and that he has taken the coaches advice to heart. From what I've read this spring, he has. I am big on defense, so I would love to see him make it as our starting CF next year. It sounds like Victorino is healthy, but that he will have to be "handled" somewhat delicately. Farrell was trying to figure out how often Victorino could play before he needed a day off. It sounds like the 4th OF will get more than the average number of ABs.
  18. As of now, we really don't know what our glaring need, if any, will be. That's another reason I would hold off on making any trades right now. It might turn that we don't need another starting pitcher. I don't think that will be the case, but we could be pleasantly surprised by the pitchers we already have, including the one who are starting the season in AAA. I think the FO is wanting more and more to keep Craig around. Or maybe that's just me. LOL
  19. It's possible that Vazquez will not be ready for Opening Day. Hopefully, his injury is not too serious. He seems to think he'll be ready to go. Hanigan was scratched from the line up today and Quintero started in his place. I don't know what that was all about.
  20. Well if his head is not screwed on right, I don't think he's the guy you want as your closer. Either way, he was so dominant last year that a dropoff in performance was to be expected this season.
  21. LOL Bell. Why do I get the sense that there's a "clutch" argument in that question somewhere? I have no data to back my previous statement up (and I did search for some, ever so quickly), but I also haven't seen any that shows otherwise. That's one of those statements that I've heard repeated so often by managers and players that I just start accepting it as true. It could be complete hogwash. I need to find some data on the topic....
  22. His velocity is down but he says that is not the problem. He thinks to some extent that the league has figured him out and that's why they are hitting him better. I haven't watched him pitch enough to know what is going, but it could very well all be in his head. I'm not sure why Girardi has not named a closer. I think relievers pitch better when they know what their specific roles are.
  23. One thing that the team was lacking last year was depth. You're absolutely right that Hanley and Victorino are both injury risks, and JBJ might well be needed come midseason. I understand that there will likely be a need to trade for a pitcher before the deadline. I just want the trade to make sense for the Sox and not be a trade to appease the fanbase or to get rid of excess parts.
  24. I would not sell low on JBJ if I were the FO. His defense is worth his weight in gold, and by all accounts, he looks a lot better at the plate. He's never going to be known as an offensive CFer, but if he can hit decently, he will be a valuable player. If the Sox are not given an offer that they are happy with, then I'd be fine stashing him in AAA for another season. In other words, don't trade him just for the sake of trading him because he is "expendable".
  25. Some of the shine has come off of Betances this spring. It might be nothing, but it might be something. How's that for expert analysis?
