  1. Thanks! You have a great way of telling it like it is.
  2. The Sox need to keep it going with a700 mojo! Go Sox!
  3. I like you more and more everyday.
  4. Congrats Ted. I hope all goes well with the wedding. I can't believe you would choose your daughter's wedding over watching the Sox game and posting in the game thread.....
  5. As a Sox fan, when it comes to my team, I don't know the meaning of apathy. I am still watching every game. Not only that, I still look forward to every game and am disappointed when there is an off day or a rain out. I am elated when the team wins, and heartbroken when they lose. I am going to Vegas next week, and as excited as I am about the trip, I am really bummed that I'm going to be missing the Sox games. It would be so much easier to give up on this team and just stop watching and caring, but I can't do it. It's all I know.
  6. Speaking of BABIP, I love Holt, but before anyone gets too star struck over him, his BABIP is .405. He has provided this team a much needed spark, but how long can it last?
  7. There is no doubt that the nerd/computer projection part is a very important part of building a team. My impression was that Ben was very much a Theo protege, and that he has a good understanding of saberstats. I might be wrong though. Everything computer related projected this team to be good, including Panda and Hanley. The fact that it hasn't been is mind-boggling. A couple of years ago, Henry acknowledged the importance of such projections by stating that Bill James would be given a larger voice in the baseball ops department. I would think that if Carmine were that set against Panda and Hanley, they wouldn't have been signed. Unless, of course, Larry stuck his nose in where it didn't belong again.
  8. It's very sickening. Watching the Yankees win is bad enough. Watching them win with ARod is sickening.
  9. YES showed the Tigers dugout when ARod was crossing home plate on that HR. None of the Tigers players were clapping for him. I thought that was interesting. Very telling.
  10. As much criticism as Ben gets for the Hanley and Panda signings, which I personally think is unwarranted, he deserves credit for holding steadfast about not trading Betts, Bogaerts, and Swihart. After losing out on Lester, it would have been all too easy for Ben to panic and trade one or more of these guys for Hamels or some other top pitcher. We are starting to see why these guys were "untouchables". Sometimes non-moves are the best moves.
  11. Just like always, when things are going bad, these little incidents get blown way out of proportion. Now we're hearing about how Pablo is a selfish, terrible teammate and Farrell has lost the clubhouse, etc. I would venture to guess that players check things on their phones all the time during the games when they go into the clubhouse for whatever reason. Most just don't get caught. Pablo made a stupid mistake. Benching him for one game was a reasonable punishment. But all this stuff about how the team is running amok and how Farrell needs to come down harder on his players is nonsense, if you ask me.
  12. The home plate ump stinks.
  13. Thank goodness they got the run in from 3rd. We have had far too many rallies killed by DPs.
  14. Way to make that error count Mookie!
  15. Poor Sandoval. He takes so much abuse.
  16. I agree that he has pitched well.
  17. The offense was supposed to be among the top in the league. The defense was supposed to be top 6. The pitching was supposed to be middle of the pack. We are underperforming in all areas.
  18. The offense seems to be coming around. Some of the numbers might not be too far off from career numbers because the offensive numbers in April were not too bad either. However, the offense was horrible in May. Ortiz might be seeing some effects of aging, but based on his batted ball velocity and other peripherals, his OPS should not be nearly 150 points lower than what it was last year. Napoli's batted ball velocity is not bad either. He is also a victim of a .228 BABIP. Take a look at some of the pitching numbers. Porcello, Miley, Kelly, and Masterson are all sporting career worst ERAs. What is up with that?
  19. It's not about the tactical decisions. I still believe that the great majority of the blame falls on the players themselves, but when you have widespread underperformances, mental lapses, and lack of fundamentals, you have to question what is going on with Farrell and the other coaches.
  20. When somebody says "I'm a realist", it usually carries with it the implication that the person with an opposing view is not a realist, is delusional, or my favorite, is in La-La Land. I am probably more numbers driven than any other poster here. Believe me, I know where we stand. I am not delusional about our chances of making the playoffs. Knowing that the odds are long, however, is not mutually exclusive with staying positive. I know it's not exactly the same thing, but if we were players on the team instead of fans, would you all be saying the same things? It's time to throw in the towel. There is no hope. Blow this team up. Etc. I certainly hope not. Watching the team I love lose is hard enough. Reading all of the negative comments about them day in and day out is even more heartbreaking. This is not a rant against you Bell. You know I like and respect you.
  21. Actually, he has not earned his paycheck. He will have been worth about $40 mil at the end of this year. Don't get me wrong. I loved Papelbon and I think he is a good closer, so this is not meant to bash him. It's just that the contract that the Phillies gave him is insane. Since 2012 when his contract with the Phillies started, he is 10th in WAR among relief pitchers, and would likely be a few spots lower if some of the other relievers had pitched all 4 years. None of the other relievers is making $13 mil/year. Robertson is the next highest paid guy making $10 mil this year, and his contract was given 4 years later than Papelbon's was. The point is, relief pitching is not the area in which to hand out big contracts. BTW, Koji is one of the guys with better WAR than Papelbon in that 4 year period.
  22. I would agree with this. I would not sacrifice the future in hopes of making the playoffs this year. Even if we were in first place, I would not sacrifice the future to go for it this year. That does not mean that we shouldn't make any trades. Just make trades that don't hurt the long term outlook of the team. Trading Iglesias is a good example of that.
  23. I think all of us believed all along that in season moves would likely have to be made, even if we weren't playing as poorly as we have been. That said, regressing to the mean would help a lot.
  24. I don't really have a problem with fans voting for the players who play in the ASG, but the majority of fans are going to vote for their favorite players, not for the ones that are most deserving. That's okay in terms of the game itself, because these are the players that the fans want to see. That said, it really shouldn't be called the "All Star" game if that is the case, not that it bothers me. Just being technical. What does bother me, though, is having the ASG determine home field advantage for the World Series. That is the stupidest idea I've heard in a while. It's not that HFA makes that big of a difference in the series, but it does make a big difference in terms of having a DH or having the pitcher batting.
