  1. I can appreciate the beauty of the female form. Not in a lesbian way. NTTIAWWT
  2. LOL Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of men's junk. I just don't want to see it flopping around on the beach. There's a time and place for everything.
  3. In the end, I think it was the correct decision for the FO not to try to beat thc Cubs offers. I think his contract will be okay for 3 or 4 years, but Lester could become a big financial burden in the last couple of years. However, I think Lester would have re-signed for something closer to a Homer Bailey contract if the FO could have gotten it done in spring training.
  4. Here are the links I posted a couple of days ago: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/ar...rticleid=25949 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangr...f-predictions/ http://espn.go.com/mlb/preview15/sto...015-mlb-season http://m.mlb.com/news/article/116252...it-all-in-2015 http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/04/02/pla...ie-of-the-year http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-bi...043325435.html http://grantland.com/the-triangle/20...eam-flop-team/ And this does not include the computer models, who also had the Sox finishing in first.
  5. I'm not sure where he got the idea that anyone thinks this team does not need pitching help. Even if our offense performed in May and we were in first place, we'd need pitching help.
  6. Whose logic would that be?
  7. I am not talking about analysts who had any input into assembling the team. I am talking about all of the baseball analysts around the league who predicted the Sox to come in first place.
  8. Simple yes or no answer, yes.
  9. Depending on the cost, that would be a good idea. I certainly hope the FO doesn't give up anything of significance for a 2 month rental. I think what will likely end up happening is they add a pen arm and possibly an innings, depth type starter. At this point, I don't foresee any big splash.
  10. Personally, I do not want to see any man's junk flopping around on a beach. I don't care how sexy the man is. There is something to be said about leaving things to the imagination.
  11. You may rest your case. The evidence is overwhelming.
  12. He's pitching right around his career average. It was unlikely that he would repeat last year's performance. Regardless, I wanted him back even though his contract is too long.
  13. Since June 16, we have a record of 15-9. Our ERA over that period is 4.21. We scored 5.3 runs/game over that period. When our offense scores runs, we win. If the offense continues to perform up to expectations, it could. However, our pen needs help and Buchholz is injured. We need more pitching. I don't disagree with that.
  14. I happen to agree that the predictions of the "experts" and of the projection systems are something to take with a grain of salt. They are not foolproof, as nothing is when dealing with humans. However, it's not like these guys are making blind guesses either. They are baseball analysts. They do this for a living. When the large majority of them picked the Sox to win the division, there is credibility to the way the FO assembled the team. You don't have to like it. I didn't particularly like it either. But that doesn't mean it was flawed. It didn't work, but that also doesn't mean that, on paper, it was flawed. There's always a chance that players will perform below average. But there's also just as good a chance that they will perform above average.
  15. Again, I have never said that this team has not been a bad team. I said they would be leading the division.
  16. No one ever said this is a great team. If the Sox played .500 ball in May, which they should have been able to do easily if the offense performed up to expectations, they would be 47-42, in 2nd place, and 1.5 games out of first.
  17. No, I believe that without the bad offensive performance in May, we would be in first place.
  18. FTR, while I picked them to win the division, I also said that the division would be so tight that the Sox could just as easily finish, depending on which team had the most things break in their favor. There were just as many non-sabermetricians who picked the Sox to finish first, so this is not about the sabermetric approach being flawed.
  19. Yes, you pay for your own guys like we did for Pedroia. The Sox should have locked up Lester before he hit free agency. You have to overpay to lock up free agents, but you don't stupidly overpay, like an ARod contract, for instance. It wouldn't take 20 years of not making the playoffs for riots and boycotts. It's been 1 1/2 years since we won a WS, and there are already riots and boycotts.
  20. If Ben's rationale was so deeply flawed, why did the large majority of baseball analysts, both traditional and sabermetric, not to mention all of the computer models that I looked at, pick the Red Sox to win the division. These guys do baseball for a living. If the rationale were that flawed, these guys would not have given the Sox their votes. Some people, including many here, had doubts. They were right. Kudos to them. That still does not mean the strategy was wrong. If I'm not mistaken, you picked the Sox to win the division. Why would you pick a team to win the division if you knew it was so flawed? Lastly, I have not once stated that our defense sucked badly. I also have not once blamed the overall poor pitching on the defense. I did, however, state that the defense has underperformed, just as the pitching and offense have.
  21. I am not making any decisions on what should be done for the season based on the month of May. I have not suggested that we trade Hanley or Pablo or anyone else based on how they performed in May. I know better than to make a decision like that based on one month of play. I have said that the offense was brutal in May and that our record in May, and therefore our record for the whole season to date, is largely due to them. That is a fact.
  22. No one has ever said that this is a good team. I have clearly stated more than once what my point is. I even bolded it once. You are choosing to ignore what my point is because you don't want to concede that I'm right.
  23. There was never really a question of whether Scherzer would pitch well this season or not. Of course the Nats aren't pissed right now with what they're paying him. As you mentioned, it's the back half of that contract that will likely end up biting them. Oddly enough, it seems to me that it's the same fans who complain about the FO not signing the big free agents to huge contract that would be complaining when those same free agents handcuff the team financially 4 or 5 years down the road. I agree that sometimes giving out a big contract is necessary, but that should not be the rule of thumb.
