  1. If he were struggling as a starter, absolutely. If he is pitching like a #2, then moving him to the pen would not make much sense, unless the pen was completely decimated. And even then, moving a top starter to the pen doesn't make a lot of sense. I realize that Kelly has a long way to go before establishing himself as a number 2. But you know as well as I do that people here would not take well to moving our 2nd best starting pitcher (hypothetically) to the pen to make room for a lesser starting pitcher.
  2. That is not proof of any of the statements in the post that you were referring to. That is you interpreting things the way you want to interpret them, based on his appearance.
  3. The question wasn't what Pablo's upside was. I get that you don't think he will, but if Pablo did revert to being a 2.5-3 WAR player, do you think the team is better off with him at 3B and Shaw as a supersub?
  4. Seriously. Of course I'm speculating, as is everyone here. Hanley may be the dumbest guy in the world for all I know, but I'm not going to accuse him of being stupid because I don't like the way he looks or plays. I'm willing to give Hanley and Pablo the benefit of the doubt as to why they aren't focused or why they're fat, rather than accusing them of having bad or weak characters based on the way they look.
  5. You do not know that. You are making assumptions about his character.
  6. First of all, TMI. Secondly, I think we all understand how being overweight limits mobility. And we understand how it will become worse as Pablo ages. However, he has always been at least average as a defender until last year, while being fat. Maybe, just maybe, he can bounce back. Thirdly, how do you know that he doesn't have some real mental, emotional, or physical issues (similar to yours) that are keeping him from being able to lose weight and keep it off? Honestly, I doubt that that's the case, but we don't know that.
  7. He is 0 for his last 8. Time to DFA him the no good bum.
  8. Personally, I like a lot about the old school style of play, including players not being babied so much and players policing themselves. I am very traditional when it comes to the play on the field.
  9. Serious question to everyone who wants Shaw to be our starting 3B: Is the team better off having Pablo playing a solid 3B (2012, 2013, or 2014 numbers) and Shaw being a supersub, where he can back up multiple positions, pinch hit, possibly be a late inning defensive replacement, and pinch run, or having Shaw playing a solid 3B and having Pablo on the bench, where he can spell Shaw occasionally at 3B but really can't do anything else? I understand that Pablo may not be able to revert to previous years' numbers (and Shaw might not reach that level either), but I strongly believe that it's in the team's best interest to give him a chance to do so. The team is better off if he can.
  10. What is wrong with his attitude? Does he have a bad attitude because he's fat?
  11. Not being able to maintain focus has nothing to be with being dumb. Do not put such words into my mouth.
  12. Saying that Pablo is fat and that he might not able to improve defensively because of his weight is fair. That is not character assassination, although the fat jokes really are cruel. The judgments made about the type of person he is based on the way he looks is character assassination. Here are some of the accusations I'm talking about: 1. Pablo is lazy. 2. Pablo isn't trying very hard. 3. Pablo doesn't care. 4. Pablo is unprofessional. 5. Pablo is giving his teammates and the fans the finger. 6. Pablo has a terrible work ethic. 7. Pablo only cares about the money he's making. 8. Pablo will be a clubhouse cancer. There is no proof behind any of those statements. They are pure speculation based on Pablo's appearance.
  13. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, I think you're making my point.
  14. If Kelly continues to pitch like he did at the end of last season and so far in ST, why would you want him in the BP rather than the rotation? Barnes has quietly been putting together a very strong spring and could fill Smith's spot in the BP very nicely. He can also pitch more than one inning. I posted during the offseason that starting Rodriguez in AAA wouldn't be a bad idea, for many reasons. Not one person agreed with me. Anyone (besides me) saying they would be okay with picking up a mid-rotation pitcher and having Rodriguez or Kelly benched is only kidding himself. Roster space is a very real and valid consideration to take into account when deciding whether to add another player.
  15. Sandoval definitely was from higher ups. Hanley I'm on the fence about. Porcello I think was Ben. That said, this FO does seem to overreact quite often.
  16. Actually, I think the Craig trade was Ben's.
  17. Dombrowski has done a very good job so far. I don't agree with what I deem to be his overall philosophy, but so far, I'm okay with where this team is. We'll see what happens.
  18. Of course I can't know this for sure. But if there is anything I can feel 99.99% sure about without having the actual knowledge of what happened, this is it.
  19. Theo is a much better GM than Ben. Theo is The Man. The point still stands though. Both GMs were "persuaded" to make free agents signings that they didn't want to because of directives from higher ups.
  20. I didn't say "outstanding" or "far outpacing". The whole point came up with talk of signing a mid-rotation pitcher. When Rodriguez is healthy, another mid-rotation pitcher would mean DFAing one of Price, Porcello, or Buchholz, or sending Kelly or Rodriguez to AAA. Not a problem if Kelly stinks. It would be a problem if he's pitching like he has been. Personally, I say that if the rotation is holding its own, keep Rodriguez in AAA for a 2-3 months.
  21. His arm is nice, but his real value comes in pitch framing and handling of the staff.
  22. Hanigan must not be traded! And case in point about the options/roster crunch thing. I would much rather send Vazquez or Swihart down, probably Vazquez until he gets some more at bats, than lose Hanigan.
  23. Unless the player with options is outplaying a player without options. Are you okay with a player with options being sent down, even though he's playing better than the player without options? I'm okay with that in some cases. Most people aren't. We have a very strong "play the best players no matter what" crowd here.
  24. No one's concerned about it because there isn't a need to worry about it at the moment. But if a mid-rotation starter were signed, and Rodriguez or Kelly were sent down while pitching very well because they had options, there would be an outrage here. Whether you want to admit it or not, roster crunch does have to be taken into account before signing another player. Not only the 25 man roster, but the 40 man roster as well.
  25. No, it's not. I also said that I didn't think he could help it, and that it wasn't "on purpose". You and I even debated about what difference it made whether he was doing it on purpose or not. IMO, there's a big difference. And, when MVP stated before ST that being involved in almost every play would probably help his focus, I agreed that it very well might. In other words, I was willing to give Hanley a chance, despite my very strong concerns about his ability to get the job done. I have my doubts about whether Pablo's range will be adequate enough to play defense at 3rd. But I'm not going to call him a lazy slob who doesn't care based on his appearance. I also said that I'm more concerned with Castillo then I am with either Pablo or Hanley. He makes bonehead plays. But I'm not trying to ship him off for nothing. Castillo gets his chance too.
