  1. My preference would be for Pablo and Castillo to be our opening day starters. They might fail, but give them at least until Memorial Day, like you always say. No, I would not do a straight platoon at either position
  2. "Depending on the dollars moving" is the key. I am going under the assumption that the Sox would eat most of Pablo's contract.
  3. Pablo might not do the team any good as a starter, but as I've said many times, it's in the team's best interest to give him a chance to bounce back. It makes all the sense in the world. I acknowledged that Shields' ability to pitch 200 innings is valuable. Outside of that, he wouldn't be much of an upgrade. I have no problem adding him to our rotation and stashing Rodriguez in AAA until he is needed.
  4. I would not give up any prospect of value. I don't know what the Padres intentions are. I'm just going by what I've read about their interest in Pablo, from sources other than Cafardo.
  5. As much as I disagree with the decisions on who our starting LF and 3B are likely to be, I sincerely hope Farrell is right. The last thing I want to see is this team get off to another slow start.
  6. Farrell stated today that he sees Betts and JBJ as everyday players. Holt is going to get the majority of playing time in LF against righties, and Young is going to get every at bat against lefties, presumably mostly in LF. That leaves Castillo very little playing time. That being the case, they should have kept Murphy and sent Castillo down to AAA. Still SMH.
  7. Farrell has officially lost his freaking mind. I stated before that having a sense of urgency is not necessarily a good thing. He is in full blown panic mode, and he is making some very poor decisions. SMH
  8. Well, can you really blame him for stealing my stuff?
  9. You are correct. Shields would not be much of an upgrade over what we already have, though he should be able to give the team a lot of innings, which is valuable in its own right. But having Pablo sit on the bench really does the team little good.
  10. Thanks for posting this Bigemu23. The OppQual stat seems a little simplistic, but it serves its purpose nonetheless. As I've said many times, you have to take ST stats with a grain of salt. Besides being an extremely small sample, the quality of the opposition is not always up to major league par, and players are usually working on specific things.
  11. The Sox would likely have to eat a lot of money. They would definitely be selling low. If not, DFA him.
  12. Besides the Padres not having much at 3B, shedding some payroll would be their incentive. The Sox would have to take on Shields' contract and eat a good bit of Pablo's contract, I'm sure.
  13. I put more stock into what Cafardo says than most of what is said here.
  14. If the Sox are not planning to start Pablo, and the writing is pretty much on the wall, then I think they should trade him if they can. Pablo is not worth much as a bench player because he has not versatility. Of course, our positional depth takes a hit, but who cares? We'll have the fat one off our team, and that's all that matters.
  15. Or I'd be worried if the Sox were not spending much on payroll.
  16. Let Pablo Play!!!
  17. No one is forcing you to be a member of Red Sox Nation. If someone else wants to be a member, that's his/her decision.
  18. The Sox officially released Murphy today. It looks like 24 of the 25 roster spots have been determined, with the last spot being a battle between Noe Ramirez and Elias.
  19. Padres have been scouting Panda. Might mean nothing, might mean something.
  20. It always comes down to the asking price, but I wouldn't mind adding Ross.
  21. I understand that.

    The Cubs

Why is it so hard for you to admit that Theo has done a great job?
  23. No, it's not silly if he would agree to a minor league assignment.
  24. The Sox have reportedly been in contact with the Padres, but are not interested in Shields. There is speculation that they are gauging possible future trade scenarios for Tyson Ross.
