  1. Yes, they are. I am concerned that their sense of urgency is leading them to rash decisions. If the Sox get off to a good start and play consistently good baseball all season, all will be forgotten.
  2. Personally, I think Dombrowski is a little insecure in himself. He is exhibiting what I would call a baseball Napoleon complex.
  3. The day in and day out for a year and a half statement is a little misleading in terms of the majors. He has played somewhat sporadically in 90 major league games, just a little more than half a season. He has dealt with injuries and adjusting to a new country/culture/team during all of that. The Sox owe it to themselves to give him a month or two to start this season.
  4. Very well said Dojii. So well that I have nothing to add.
  5. I realize that. But my point about having patience with players was not limited to just the Red Sox or any particular GM/manager. Teams across baseball have been rewarded for having patience in struggling players and have paid the price when being impatient or acting rashly.
  6. Of course it's a fair point. My middle name is "Fair".
  7. I seriously think that you need to create another chart, since I did not have the privilege of enjoying the first one. BTW, one of your green arms may have a big toe problem.
  8. If they're not planning on starting him, they need to trade him. Even if it means eating most of his contract.
  9. No surprise there. In case anyone was unclear on my stance, let me go on record as saying I think it's the wrong move to start the season. This is not in any way a knock on Shaw or his ability to get the job done. But, what's done is done. So that said, I hope Shaw brings extra energy to the team and plays like an All-Star. Four more days....Go Sox!
  10. Ben did not leave a disaster. Ben left this team in very good long term shape.
  11. Exactly. So we can look at it this way. Ben did us all a favor by allowing us to get Price. ;-)
  12. Seriously, for all the "I don't care, it's not my money" arguments that I hear, there sure is a lot of griping when it comes to money that was spent in a way that you don't agree with.
  13. Dombrowski's philosophy might work out, but just remember that patience is a virtue. Quite a few mistakes are made when managers/GMs make rash decisions or don't have patience with a player. How many people were saying Papi was finished about 5 years ago when he got off to that horrendously slow start? Most people wanted him benched or DFA'd. How many people were saying that Pedroia was not going to cut it when he got off to his horrendously bad start his rookie season? Thank goodness we had a manager and a GM who had the patience to give them a chance.
  14. You are the man. That is all.
  15. I'm just glad you didn't tell me to go poop in my hat.
  16. You can point out whatever you want to point out. I just wonder why some people are so quick to point out anything negative, but hardly take notice when the same player does something positive. Kelly has arguably been our best pitcher in spring training. He has had several good outings leading up to yesterday. All pitchers, even aces, have less than stellar outings from time to time. I realize that Kelly has historically been inconsistent. I realize that he has a long way to go before he's shown that he can remain consistently good for a sustained period. But if you're going to put a lot of stock into his spring training outings, why not consider all the very good outings he has had?
  17. It's all in the way you choose to look at things Bell.
  18. Of course it is never the intent of a pitcher to give up a bunch of home runs. However, the home runs in and of themselves aren't necessarily a cause for alarm, depending on what the intent was.
  19. I have not seen this either.
  20. Shields is probably a better bet than anyone besides Price to give us 200 innings, but I don't think he'd be a better bet for better quality of innings.
  21. All managers do this. But you hit the nail on the head with your second sentence.
  22. I sure would like to hear Farrell's explanation on this. I hope he is not basing his decisions solely on spring training numbers. He said that Castillo needs to hit. Well he's not going to hit when he's sitting on the bench.
  23. This is true. Farrell gets the benefit of the doubt. For now.
  24. This is the problem with having Holt and Shaw become everyday starters at a set position. They are supposed to be our utility guys. They offer a great deal of flexibility in those roles, not only in playing different positions, but in giving Farrell viable pinch hitting or pinch running options. If Castillo and Pablo are our bench players, their roles would be much more limited.
  25. I said during the offseason that I was on the fence about Farrell. I am going to withhold my final judgment until after this season, but I'm telling you, he has me scratching my head right now.
