  1. No, that is not necessarily true. In fact when it comes to relievers, it's often not true.
  2. Yeah, I'm not real thrilled with most of those long term solutions that you mentioned. I realize that the issue with long term solutions is a problem that most teams face. The solutions to filing long term needs are to promote from within or to make a trade. The problem is, we no longer have the farm system to do either of those things.
  3. Thank you, and to everyone, Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms in your lives. Moms are AWESOME!
  4. Only if you want the shiny new toy.
  5. Thank you, I am having a fabulously relaxing Mother's Day (so far). Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms in your life.
  6. The last I heard was that they are still on schedule for the normal start time. That could change at any moment though.
  7. 1. On the first bold statement, I agree. I know our situation at 3B has been bad with the # of injuries, but there really wasn't a good back up plan, in other words good depth, at 3B in case of a long term injury. 2. On the second bold statement,
  8. Just as interesting, the Mets have the worst ERA in baseball right now.
  9. My man.
  10. I have said many times that if we win the World Series, then all of Dombrowski's moves will be worth it. That said, if I have that kind of money to spend and prospects to trade, I'm using those resources in another area. You will typically get more bang for the buck (and more wins) using the resources on starting pitching or position players.
  11. Just because it's market value does not mean that they are not overpaid in terms of the Wins and the value that they add to the team.
  12. As I already stated, I do not underestimate the value of a strong bullpen, including a pitcher who can close out the game. What I very much disagree with is the idea that you have to pay an arm and a leg for one like Kimbrel.
  13. It doesn't matter how, just WIN!
  14. I am not aware of any such stat S5. As Bellhorn mentioned, you can go through the game logs, but that would be rather tedious. I would look at the team's DRS, which is -5 on Fangraphs, and estimate that the team's defense has cost us about 1/2 a game.
  15. And those guys are all overpaid. I can't justify paying that much for any reliever.
  16. There are fans who are most definitely in panic mode. Just sayin'.
  17. We'll be fine. No need for panic moves.
  18. I agree that all things considered, the team is in pretty good shape. I think the bench is a strength in terms of short term injuries and giving the starters a day off. I don't think our overall depth, in terms of covering a long term injury, is a strength. We traded all that away.
  19. I agree with you that it is wrong for the team not to offer refunds or exchanges.
  20. Marrero had a really nice game today.
  21. I always wonder how we're so sure that other teams will get on a roll, but the Sox never will.
  22. I would not have done this deal, which is not to say that I'm not happy that we have Kimbrel. A single relief pitcher, as good as he may be, just doesn't bring that much value to the team, in comparison to starting pitchers and position players. If we are going to trade the prospects, I'd rather trade them for a good starter or a good position player.
  23. First off, believe me when I say that I do not underestimate the value of having a strong pen. That said, I have posted many times that the bullpen is not an area that I would spend a lot of money on. A good pen, with a good closer, can be assembled without spending the type of money and prospects that we spent on Kimbrel. Yes, it makes us all feel good, myself included, when we see Kimbrel come in and dominate the opposing line up like he''s been doing all year. However, most closers are going to get the job done the great majority of the time. They might not do it in as dominating a fashion, but they get the job done. The difference in value between Kimbrel and most other closers is not worth what we paid for Kimbrel. We overpaid twice for Kimbrel - once with prospects and once with money.
  24. Ha. I was going to list letting Theo go and the Dombrowski signing (letting Ben go) as my top two moves that I would like to undo. But they're not players so I listed something else. But those would really be #1 and #2. Oh, and letting Francona go would be up there too.
