  1. Agreed.
  2. I would do the Pedroia extension over again any day of the week. And I'm not a fan of long term contracts.
  3. Don't Let Us Win Tonight
  4. Pete Abraham‏Verified account @PeteAbe 10h10 hours ago John Farrell moving up the playoff managerial rankings thanks to Joe Girardi. Good one Pete.
  5. I would like to say thank you to the few posters here who are willing to call out others on this, rather than being so worried about being one of the 'good ol' boys'. My question to any male on this board who doesn't think that all the recent oral sex conversation is sexist and degrading to women: If it were your 18 year old daughter who just started college posting instead of Thunder (and some of you were encouraging Thunder when he was 16 or 17, maybe younger), would you condone and approve of all of these much older males encouraging your daughter to give and/or receive oral sex to/from as many college males as possible? Would you encourage your daughter to give oral sex to a random coed every time someone scores a run in the game, and to ask the guy to at least give you a tissue afterwards? If you can honestly answer yes to the question, then I will give you a pass on being sexist. Of course, I would think you have much bigger issues at stake in that case. Before you jump all over me with your 'lighten up' and 'stop playing the victim' posts, save your breath. I am far from being a feminist. I am hardly a victim. But don't kid yourselves into thinking that you're not being sexist and that you're just having fun. It's attitudes like these that can and does get young college women raped. End of rant and I will speak no more on the topic.
  6. Where is Millar? We need Kevin Millar! We're not out of this yet. One game at a time. Don't let us win Sunday...
  7. I am impressed by this post. It sounds like something I would say. Except I would have added the part about the cliff.
  8. What difference does it make if you win the division with pitching or you win it with offense? Personally, I'd rather win it with great pitching and a mediocre offense. 93 wins is 93 wins.
  9. They don't necessarily, but when you combine those studies with every other study that has been done using individual players, the evidence is pretty convincing.
  10. Oh stop Jacko. Just stop.
  11. Anything less than a World Series Championship would be a bit of a let down. That's not the same as saying that the season would be somewhat of a failure though.
  12. There is no precise definition of a clutch hitter, but the topic has been studied in just about every way imaginable, with no statistical evidence that clutch is a skill. There is no predictive value in clutch. That includes studying postseason performances as a whole (to get a large enough sample size).
  13. I am pretty sure that I have as much major league baseball experience as anyone else here. I am also pretty sure that I have as much or nearly as much experience in high level competitive sports as anyone else here, in multiple sports, both team and individual. The argument that you have to have played sports to know what clutch is holds no water with me whatsoever. I've been there, done that. You are spot on with your second paragraph. Calling Ortiz a 'clutch' hitter is almost doing him a disservice. He wasn't great only in clutch moments, he was great, period.
  14. Well, I had a sliver of hope that the Twins might be able to win that game after they scored 3 in the top of the first. That sliver disappeared as soon as Santana walked Gardner to lead off the bottom of the first.
  15. Francona wants to Kluber to pitch on regular rest in Game 5, if necessary.
  16. As I've said before, I am on board with your signature.
  17. OTOH, there is some very strong evidence that clutch does not exist. I approve of your posts on the topic.
  18. Well said.
  19. I do expect some positive regression next year from some of our guys. If the guys were indeed trying to do too much, then signing Martinez would likely take some of that pressure off of them. And EE probably would have helped with that this year.
  20. In a very real way, I enjoy the playoffs a lot more when the Sox are out of it. LOL No nerves tonight, whatsoever.
  21. Nah, the chances are better than that. Close to 50-50 in a any one series, due to randomness.
  22. No, I'd just rather the Yankees lose. Period.
  23. There is no 'rational' when it comes to the Yankees, especially in the playoffs. I don't care if the Guardians would be a tougher opponent than the Yankees. I want the Yankees out. Period.
  24. Absolutely. I don't think the Twins stand a chance, but stranger things have happened.
  25. I really think a lot of the hitting woes were due to players trying to do too much in the absence of Papi.
