  1. I get that feeling too.
  2. It boils down to team wins and losses, not pitcher wins and losses. IMO, wins and losses for pitchers are rather meaningless.
  3. The point was brought up that Dombrowski must not have really wanted Stanton because if he did, he would have offered enough to get the deal done, overpaying quite a bit if necessary. If Dombrowski has his sights set on a player, he will get him. We keep hearing that Stanton did not want to come to Boston, which might be true, but the impression that I'm getting from what I've read recently is that the Sox did not really engage that seriously in talks.
  4. I like the idea of the back up catcher being a personal caddie to one pitcher, and the starting catcher catching the other 4 guys. I understand the point about a catcher going down, which is a valid point, but I think the benefits outweigh that risk.
  5. It wouldn't make much sense for any team to trade for him if it's going to cost top prospects when they can get him for just money next year.
  6. Cashman is doing a great job. Very Theo-esque. I always felt that if Cashman could get out of the death grip of George and Levine, he would do a good job. I don't like it one bit, but you have to give credit where credit is due.
  7. People just like to get us in trouble.
  8. If there's a window, there's a cliff.
  9. I would not.
  10. We can ill afford to trade away any of our starting pitching. That was the case before, and now even more so with Wright's domestic assault arrest and uncertain future. Unless Mike Trout is coming our way in such a trade. IMO, pitching should be more the focus than the 'big bat', but that's just me.
  11. We might not get JD, but Dombrowski will acquire a big bat. Book it.
  12. I really hope the Sox don't trade JBJ. Is the upgrade of JD over JBJ in the outfield really worth the difference in cost? Our outfield defense would take a big hit. If we do sign JD, I hope it's with the intent to mostly DH him, or maybe he can learn to play a solid 1B. From what I'm reading today, it sounds like Dombrowski is more inclined to trade for a big bat rather than waiting out the market for JD.
  13. I don't doubt that one bit, though they might be more in on Machado.
  14. Yup. No contest.
  15. Yup, DD is wising up!
  16. Maybe DD is finally wising up.
  17. Let the stat geeks vote, I'm telling you. They'll get it right.
  18. I definitely agree that spending $300 million for TEN years is too much. I never wanted the Sox to sign him. I don't like that he went to the Yankees, but I'm glad that we don't have that contract to deal with. I would not give that kind of contract to Machado either.
  19. Well, the rest of the teams should just forfeit right now. No sense in putting them through all the trouble of a grueling season.
  20. Yeah, I don't disagree with that.
  21. It's possible, but the point remains that Stanton would have wanted to come here. The point of my post was not so much about what we would have had to give up, but rather that perhaps the single A farm hands are better than you give them credit for because the Yankees farm system is that deep.
  22. I don't know if your proposal is realistic or not, but I am against trading Porcello and JBJ. As ho-hum as Porcello was for us last year, we need the starting pitching and we really need a guy who can eat up some innings. Also, I think Porcello will have some positive regression. Trading him just creates another hole that we don't need. I love our outfield and I hope that Dombrowski does not break them up.
  23. In what sense? If he knew he was selling the team now, then for him personally, it was not stupid because the contract is so back loaded. But for the franchise in general, yes it was stupid.
  24. Yeah, I saw that earlier. I don't really think that Jeter was intentionally giving the Yankees a good deal to help them out, but I'm not buying that it's killing him that he helped out his former team either.
  25. This is one of those moves that is bad for baseball, IMO.
