  1. I saw that too and also thought it was cool. Cool for him and cool for the Seattle fans that he is returning.
  2. Lackey strikes me as someone who would never take a minor league deal. IMO, he'd retire instead.
  3. Yeah, I suppose there were some pretty harsh words before the JD signing. Red Sox fans aren't necessarily the most patient group of people. LOL
  4. Dombrowski knows what he is doing, no doubt. That doesn't mean we can't whine about it. That's what we do here. Not me of course. I don't whine.
  5. It must be all that protection they're getting from JD.
  6. I think Henry is an analytics guy. After '14 and '15, he panicked. Then he realized that the team was falling further behind in the analytics department, which IMO, is a big part of why Cora was hired. Cora is implementing a lot of the things that were deemed successful in Houston. I think Dombrowski is on board with the idea, but he is not the one who initiating these things. He's the one who hired Tony LaRussa, after all.
  7. I don't think he's necessarily opposed to it, but I certainly don't think he's sold on them either. When he left Detroit, their analytics department was pretty much nonexistent.
  8. Mookie skipped the cross town game today to take some extra batting practice. I'm not worried about him either, but I do think it's starting to weigh on his mind. A comment he made the other day that he wish he knew what was wrong also leads me to believe this 0-fer is weighing on his mind. He needs to get a hit so he will feel better.
  9. If I recall correctly, he more or less stated that he wasn't running hard after those balls, or that he was letting them go, or something along those lines. If that's the case, then he shouldn't be surprised that the defensive metrics don't like him. If he's going to play the field a lot for us, I hope he's over his fear of the walls.
  10. It would be nice for him to get a hit, just to get that monkey off his back. The longer he goes without a hit, the more he'll start thinking about. But he'll be fine.
  11. I read that yesterday also, and I give JD high marks for having the right attitude. That said, JD said that he blames the metrics for making him look like a bad defender. My response to that was, it's not the metrics that are making him look bad, it's his bad defense that are making him look bad. Obviously, I'm pulling for the guy both offensively and defensively. It's possible that he can play with improved defense going forward. But to date, he has been very bad.
  12. I think Dombrowski did a great job of putting a team together for the short term. What I have always disagreed with is that I think he sacrificed our long term to do so. I gave Dombrowski credit for hiring Cora. Sorry, but I'm not convinced that Dombrowski is spearheading the push towards more analytics. That said, kudos to him for being open minded enough to be on board with it.
  13. Again, that is only one poster. Don't throw the rest of us Dombrowski critics in the same boat.
  14. I believe that there is only one poster here who thinks Dombrowski doesn't have a plan. I am certainly not a big fan, but I know he has a plan.
  15. You also give Dombrowski too much credit.
  16. I can promise you that the Sox were getting out of the basement in 2016 whether Dombrowski was hired or not. He's done a good job, but really, you give him far too much credit.
  17. From my favorite tweeter: @redsoxstats Based on what's been written here's my guess at the initial lineup and what would be most productive based on reading way too much about lineup optimization.
  18. I read the full article on WEEI last night and thought 'awesome!' I don't know about the masses, but I personally am thrilled.
  19. I wasn't talking about pinch hitting. My main point was to emphasize that as long as you play your best players, the batting order doesn't matter a whole lot. I didn't mean to imply managers were often sitting their best players.
  20. I think so too. We shall see this year, I guess. Cora has given him the green light.
  21. Hanley is going to rake this year.
  22. I would agree Harmony. Hosmer certainly was not worth an 8 year contract, but on a shorter team deal, I think he'd be a good addition.
  23. And there is no downside/harm to signing these guys to minor league deals.
  24. But is still having issues defensively, from what I've heard. His season defensively will be a work in progress.
