  1. It is only the 3rd game of the season, so those 2 pen guys were able to pitch multiple innings each. Will they be able to do that in June or later? With most starters going fewer innings, you need those pen arms to be available for more innings in games where the 'regular' starters start. It is interesting. We'll see how it works out.
  2. Amen. When the Red Sox are playing, there is no other sport or game.
  3. The DVR is indeed a beautiful thing. The ability to fast forward through commercials is priceless.
  4. Playing 4 games on turf also factored into Cora's decisions.
  5. It's like some people actually have lives or something.
  6. Not only the entire bullpen, but the manager as well.
  7. LOL Good gracious, I hope not. Pen arms will be blown out by June.
  8. As I posted elsewhere, if Bogaerts continues hitting like he is, he will be more valuable in the 5 hole than he would be in the 3 hole.
  9. Sarcasm aside, no, we really shouldn't have.
  10. Agree 100%.
  11. Worth noting that here is a case where aggressive base running paid off. If he had been caught stealing, he would have been crucified for trying such a boneheaded thing. Most of the time, whether a play is a great play or a boneheaded play is determined after the fact, by whether it worked or not. The same can be said about Pillar's steal of home in the Yankees game.
  12. Good to see you back SoxHop!
  13. This is nothing earth shattering. This could be said about most every starting pitcher. The more home runs they give up, the lower the probability of winning.
  14. 3 OOBs in 2 games. Is that Farrell's fault?
  15. 6:00 start time for tonight's game, for anyone who was not aware.
  16. The Rays are going down! Let's go!
  17. LOL Well, I didn't say Joe Kelly was the answer. Just that there is an answer that can be found for cheaper. You make a good point about Kimbrel showing calmness. I was concerned that his daughter's health might be a distraction, but early on, her illness seems to be having a calming effect on his performance. One, he knows that baseball is insignificant in comparison to the bigger picture. Two, he's pitching for Lydia. He seems to be in a really good place right now.
  18. Joe Kelly stat rankings for qualified relievers: HR/9 - 13th BAA - 33rd ERA - 39th WHIP - 63rd WAR - 65th IP - 102nd K/BB - 139th Those numbers don't look great, but if you consider that there are 30 teams with 7 relievers per team, they are not bad at all. Yes, Kelly gives up too many walks. OTOH, he doesn't give up that many hits which gives him a respectable WHIP. To me, he is a #2/3 quality reliever on a team, which makes him a 7th or 8th inning guy.
  19. As Spud mentioned, Kimbrel just might be willing to leave some money on the table to remain in Boston because of the medical care that his daughter will continue to need. I don't know whether he would give enough of a discount to make him worth signing, but it's possible. That said, I still believe that as good as Kimbrel is, we can find nearly as much value in a closer for much less money. I'd prefer to spend that money elsewhere.
  20. I didn't think it was possible, but then I saw what Greinke got. I thought that Price might opt just because he was not happy playing in Boston. If he has a good year and seems content, I don't think he'll opt out, crazy as it sounds.
  21. It could happen, and there is still time to 'fix' things before the end of this window.
  22. He has looked good. Time to get some of the youngsters into a game and see how they look. Hopefully in a slightly lower leverage situation.
