  1. If Kelly had blown that game, Cora would have been crucified. Personally, I liked the decision. (I fully admit that I would not have liked it as much if it had failed. I also fully admit that I was not extremely confident entering that 1/2 inning. LOL) Cora gave Kelly a huge vote of confidence in trusting him with that save situation. He got the sour taste out of Kelly's mouth. Whether that pays any long term dividends remains to be seen, but I like it.
  2. As I said before, I don't think there is anyway that he could not be a doofus.
  3. Somebody has to make the decisions. More to your point though, managers have a greater impact on the team with their off the field stuff.
  4. LOL I had actually looked at that and was going to include that in my post, along with our +1 run differential, but then didn't.
  5. Right on CP. Watching your kids (and I'm sure grandkids) play sports is something special. And very nerve wracking. LOL
  6. Well said.
  7. I don't disagree that the "he hates Boston" is overblown. In which case, he wouldn't opt out. If he is truly unhappy, I think he would opt out. If I were miserable in my job, I'd take a job for less money if it meant being happy. Call me crazy.
  8. This is my thinking as well.
  9. I agree that he won't get an offer for more money. IMO, if Price is truly miserable, he would be willing to take less money.
  10. I'm with you Moon. I haven't really seen anything happen yet to allay my concerns.
  11. Good point. I had forgotten about Devers injuring his knee. I have no problem with Cora's plan to give our starters regular rest. It not only keeps them fresh, but it also keeps the bench players fresh.
  12. OTOH, we could very easily be 0-4. We won 3 one run games. Any of the games could have gone either way. We should all be thrilled with 3 out of 4.
  13. I thought I had read somewhere that Sale and Price would be pitching the first two games of that series, due to the off days. Maybe I'm mistaken.
  14. The point is not about being able to keep a good team together. It's about having the farm players to take over when the free agents leave, which also gives you more money to spend on other players, due to their low salaries.
  15. To that 70 year old woman, "You go girl!" Female athletes are incredible.
  16. Haha! Good job! I really don't get into all those other sports. I did when I was younger, but currently don't have the time to devote that much time to sports. I spend enough time on baseball as it is.
  17. In most cases, I can defend the decision as being 'aggressive', but in this case, I agree that it was a bad decision.
  18. Intentionally walking a batter almost never favors the pitching team. Almost never. Like the sac bunt, intentional walks are overused and misused. This is another case where most managers have not caught up with what sabermetrics are telling them. I would have thought Boone knew better. But even if Boone did, as Cora seems to emphasize, you have to get the players to buy into it.
  19. I have no doubt. LOL Then again, unlike Cora, we've decided that Boone is a doofus, right?
  20. I don't disagree about the coaches. I am talking about the fans' opinions. If Hanley had gotten caught, he would have been crucified for being so stupid. But instead, his aggressiveness led to a run, so pretty much nothing was made of it. My point is that sometimes even when a play doesn't work out, it was still a good decision to go with. Or vice versa.
  21. That is blasphemy.
  22. I am of the opinion that a manager's in game decisions do not impact the outcome of the games as much as most people think they do. To blame a manager for the loss of a game is silly.
  23. It's not nonsense. If he hated playing in Boston strongly enough, he would opt out.
