  1. Dave is clearly trying to win me over.
  2. He deserves to be in.
  3. Not to take anything away from Mariano, because he truly deserves the 100% vote, but the fact that no one before him received 100% of the vote is yet another reason why the HOF voting is such a joke. It needs to be fixed. Mariano and Mussina are two of the very few Yankees players that I actually somewhat like. Congrats to them.
  4. Yup, pretty much.
  5. Amen, Mr. Jackson.
  6. Johnny Damon - Self Important Twit And yeah, he's also a traitor.
  7. The $5 mil bin is a great place from which to get relievers. Don't make that out to be a bad thing.
  8. I think we could have surmised that even without the Shawn Kelley report. Dombrowski is not sitting idly by.
  9. Exactly sk.
  10. These types of things happen every year in every clubhouse. When things are going well, you typically don't hear a thing about them. Or if you do hear about them, they are portrayed as something like team chemistry or team identity. When things turn south, the media puts a whole different spin on it. Does Tito carry some of the responsibility for the team's collapse? Of course he does. Did he deserve to be fired? No he did not. I am positive that had Tito returned the following year, the team would have likely made the playoffs.
  11. The Yankees are always involved with these types of players. Until Machado actually signs with another team, you can't count them out.
  12. Personally, I think the Yankees weakness lies in their starting rotation. I would love to see the Yankees get saddled with another huge contract for a position player that, IMO, isn't really an area of need. Machado would likely help the team, but I don't think the impact would not be that great over what they already have. Plus, there is the baggage that Machado carries with him. Despite what the Yankees are saying, I never count them out from signing a free agent. They are ready to pounce at any moment, if they see fit.
  13. I have never felt the need to improve at the catching position. If this team has any holes, catching is not one of them, IMO.
  14. I can see why you would feel this way, and you don't have to defend yourself. I was not trying to take sides, but rather just trying to let Harmony know that I'm glad he is posting here. I would do the same for you.
  15. I completely agree with the idea of requiring each owner to spend a certain % of the team's revenue sharing on payroll. Any owner who doesn't should not only forfeit the money, but should also be penalized by losing some draft slots, rather than penalizing the teams that actually spend.
  16. I am guessing that the whole chicken and beer fiasco has been blown way out of proportion.
  17. Well I'm not going to drudge up the whole clutch argument again, so I'll leave it at that.
  18. No clue what the direction is, I'm just saying I'd rather extend Bogaerts at the price that you mentioned than either Sale or JDM. Remember that sadly, I, like you, believe the cliff is coming. So I really don't know what Dombrowski and Henry have in store for us after this year.
  19. FTR Harmony, I have no issues with your posts. I think you are more objective than some here are giving you credit for, but regardless of that, it's human nature for us to be biased towards our own teams.
  20. I agree. And given the volatile nature of most relievers, I don't think it's a smart idea to sign them to huge contracts. I'd be okay entering the season with the pen that we have, but I still believe Dombrowski is going to add to it.
  21. I am a fan of the shorter term signings of 2nd tier types of players over signing the superstar types to mega contracts. If the signing fails, it is usually only one or two years and less money per year that the team needs to eat.
  22. I 100% believe that a player's emotional state affects his production, have stated this many times, but for some reason, you fail to acknowledge this. That said, clutch and choke are something different.
  23. I think he had that much of a negative impact on the whole team. I actually think the team was against him before they even met him, because it was suggested that he was hired to 'whip the team into shape'. He had a huge strike against him before he even started, which was probably very unfair to him, but I don't believe he helped his cause any when he actually started the job. If memory serves me right, he left Lester in a game to fry. Pure speculation, but I had the impression that Valentine was punishing Lester for pitching so poorly, so to speak, and let it be known to Lester that that was what he was doing. Francona, OTOH, might have left Lester in the game, but he would have approached it from the angle that he needed Lester to take one for the team and save the pen arms. IMO, there was a big difference in the way the managers communicated things.
  24. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't signed Machado, after his comments earlier about how much he hates being beat by the Red Sox.
  25. The Reds are trying to give some appearance of having a shot at the playoffs this year. I would not be surprised if they move said closer at the deadline and get fleeced in the deal.
