  1. Me too.
  2. Probably. But there are the Ryan Dempsters of the pitching world out there.
  3. I'm not sure if they'd rather not have a season, but they would much rather have the 50 game season mandated by Manfred than a longer season, unless players agree to revenue sharing.
  4. The longer they continue to disagree, the fewer games they will be able to play, obviously. The hoped for starting date has already been pushed back one week. The threat of a second wave of the coronavirus in the fall might prohibit them from playing into October, much less November like some are saying. They need to come to an agreement now.
  5. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 10h Speaking of Manfred, here's why the Red Sox don't have a second round pick tonight in a 5 round draft. MLB's report. Here's the list: Alleged Alleging Appeared Appears Assumed Belief Belief Believed Believed Evidently Implied Indicated Indicated Indications Inferences May have Surmised Suspected Suspected Suspected
  6. LOL Houston will definitely benefit from not having to deal with the wrath of opposing teams' fans. I wonder if opposing pitchers will still be intent on hitting Astros' hitters.
  7. This, plus I'm kind of inclined to trust Bloom's drafting system, based on the job done with Tampa Bay.
  8. Cora is the man. I would welcome him back with open arms.
  9. People keep mentioning this March agreement, but fail to mention that the agreement was predicated on there being fans at the games. Clark even acknowledged this fact.
  10. If players really want to play like they keep saying they do, then they'll play.
  11. Not so sure about that.
  12. I have no problem with the Sox picking Yorke. It seems like they did their homework on him. I just initially didn't get the logic behind the reports that the Sox took Yorke early because they didn't think he'd be available by the time they got to their 3rd round pick. If there was someone that they valued higher in the first round, then that's an odd reason to go with Yorke instead.
  13. You never know how these things are going to work out. Being a #1 prospect guarantees nothing. I agree, it's nothing to get too worked up over. To be honest, I usually don't even follow the draft. I only know what's going on this year because there's nothing else being reported, except for the ongoing saga between owners and players.
  14. I read that had the players been allowed to play this year, Yorke's rankings would have improved to possibly first round status. Maybe that's just the Sox blowing smoke, but it's a valid point about the players missing this season.
  15. If the season comes down to Manfred having to mandate a 48 game season against the players' will, it's possible that many players will choose to opt out. Or maybe that's just a negotiating tactic. But if that happens, that won't be any better of a look than if there were no season at all, IMO. As I posted yesterday, the players made a reasonable counter offer. It's now on the owners to make comparable concessions, and for the two sides to agree. This has gone on far too long. Based on Manfred's comments, it does sound like the owners are going to make a reasonable counter. 'Reasonable' is very much up to interpretation, though.
  16. I actually agree with choosing the next available best player rather than drafting according to need. Granted there are several other factors to consider besides just who the best available player is, but I don't think it makes much sense to draft down 30 slots just because you have a particular need. Draft the best players, then trade from areas of strength if necessary.
  17. Initially, I didn't really understand the reasoning either. If there was a player that they valued higher than Yorke, then they should have gone with the other player. That said, as with most things, it comes down to money. I guess the Sox feel like they have a very good chance of signing Yorke below slot money, thereby freeing up some extra money for their 3rd rounder. Are the Sox better off being able to sign what would typically be a 2nd rounder and their 3rd rounder, or would they be better off signing a 1st rounder but not a 3rd rounder? I guess with the uncertainty of prospects, the more you are able to sign, the better off you are. We do still need to replenish the farm.
  18. We are nearing the point where Manfred might just go ahead an mandate a 50 game season, against the players' wishes. Many players have indicated that if this is the case, they will simply sit out and forego this year's salary and service time.
  19. The players have made what I think is a reasonable second counter proposal. The offer is now for an 89 game season, expanded playoffs, and no salary OR service time for any players without health risks who opt out. Of course, the definition of 'at risk' is still going to be highly subjective. There were a couple of other small concessions as well. It's now time for the owners to make an equal compromise. The problem is, the longer this drags on, the more time is being wasted, limiting the number of games that can be played. This might be the owners' strategy, since they want a shorter season.
  20. If the baseball season happens, they are now looking at a start date of July 10. Previously, they had hoped to start by July 4, but the goons can't get their acts together.
  21. I liked Dice K. He was maddening as anything at times, but he always seemed to somehow wiggle out of it.
  22. I would argue about a few of the guys on Moon's list. I agree it's too long. I still don't understand why JD Drew gets so little love. The contract was not that bad from the get go (one year too long), especially compared to what other corner outfielders were getting that year.
  23. Why didn't he make sense? Did Valbuena make more sense? Probably, but doesn't mean that Pablo made no sense. We needed a 3rd baseman. Pablo was arguably the best 3rd baseman available during that off season. The contract didn't make a lot of sense because of the number of years, but the player made sense.
  24. Sandoval made a lot of sense too, though as with Crawford, the contract was too long.
  25. Which leads me to wonder why you think we were talking about Crawford in the first place? LOL
