  1. I am holding out for any type of baseball season. I don't care if it's only 50 games. I want baseball.
  2. Haha. I was thinking that most baseball players can't compare to soccer players in terms of physical conditioning.
  3. I don't think baseball did itself any favors in the past several weeks, but I don't see the outlook being as pessimistic as others see it. I don't think baseball is doomed.
  4. That makes a lot of sense. This should appease the players as well, because that would allow the Sox to spend more than they might spend if they don't reset. Not that they're likely to spend big in either case because of the shutdown, but it should help some.
  5. I agree with you. It doesn't seem right that the players will get service time even if the season isn't played, but the year won't count for owners in terms of the luxury tax penalty.
  6. Good deal with the PGA Tour. They seem to have done things the right way. I took my son to a soccer game a few years back. I developed a respect for soccer players that I didn't have prior to that. The beatings that their bodies must take is incredible. They are almost like football players with no padding. Not to mention just the great physical condition they must be in to run up and down the field as much as they do.
  7. It has been very frustrating following the non-progress in these negotiations. We could have been watching baseball on July 4th weekend (what better day to have a delayed Opening Day?) if the two sides were not so stubborn. Now, it looks like the earliest projected start date is July 19.
  8. Oh yes, my son has been talking about this for a while. I am not a soccer fan, but he is so excited he could hardly stand it. Go Chelsea! (For my son.)
  9. IMO, both sides are equally to blame. It appears that the owners have agreed to give the players full prorated salary with somewhere around 60 or 70 games, as opposed to Manfred's potential mandate of 50 games. It's a step in the right direction, and it appears the two sides are at least talking again. Baseball people sound optimistic. Get it done. This has dragged on long enough. Let's play some baseball!
  10. I can't really disagree with any of that. Even if there is a 2020 season, it would probably be in Mookie's best interest to sign a one year deal and hope for an improved market in 2021 or 2022. The whole situation just really stinks for him and other free agents.
  11. Yes, he did accept some risk. I remember reading how his mother always encouraged him to go to free agency, and thinking that if I were his mother, I would have encouraged him to take the $300 million. It's hard for me to imagine passing up that kind of money.
  12. It will be really interesting to see what the market for Mookie will be. As much as I've been on him for not being satisfied with the Red Sox' offer of $300 million, I kind of feel bad for him. He'll be fine regardless, but this is the moment he's been playing for and betting on for a long time, and now it might not come to fruition, through no fault of his own.
  13. I thought all of these guys already signed.
  14. Good job Bloom. I really don't know any of these guys, but the more talent they can sign, the better the chances of at least some of these guys making an impact.
  15. If there is no season, then the Sox would have to reset again in 2021.
  16. Biggest cluster *$#* ever.
  17. You would think the Red Sox would really like to have some kind of a season. They need it to reset their luxury tax penalty.
  18. LOL I was thinking what an interesting name when I read it. But trust me when I say that I have very little difficulty forgetting things.
  19. Cool. You'll have to remind of me of this name in a few years and let me know how he's doing. LOL
  20. Maybe Bloom has a better handle on developing these young pitchers into Major League pitchers than our Ben and Theo seemed to have.
  21. I saw that the Sox signed a lot of UFAs. Hopefully, some of those arms will amount to something!
  22. Before I read this post, I was just thinking the same thing. We need another McGwire - Sosa home run race. Not that I personally would care much about it, but I think for casual fans and kids, this is the type of thing that would draw interest. I would like to see a strike out race between two ace pitchers. I'm not sure other people would get into that as much as a home run race. The general population seems to be much more offense oriented.
  23. I am thinking that I may have to rekindle my passion for football and/or basketball.
  24. You should join the Anything Goes Covid thread. LOL
  25. I am not really a fan of the whole opener concept, but it does seem to be a strategy that is catching on and that will become commonplace. It's early and Bloom hasn't had a lot of opportunity with the Sox yet, but I am very pleased and excited to have him as our GM.
