  1. Woohoo! Baseball is back! Let's go!
  2. Never get done as in completed through the end of the playoffs? That's a very distinct possibility.
  3. Brian Boitano is the man.
  4. 1. I found the idea of having two teams of additional players in Nashville, ready to go, an interesting one. I am wondering if they can only be signed due to coronavirus related need. 2. I really dislike the rule of starting a runner on 2B in extra innings, but I can see the point of it for this year. Just please don't ever make it a permanent adoption.
  5. The spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona were shut down a few days ago.
  6. David's side of the story: "Ortiz’s lawyers in the Dominican Republic have asserted the dispute centers on Fernandez’s push for greater financial support. The restraining order against Ortiz instructs him to stay away from her and refrain from “annoying, intimidating, or threatening” her. The language in the order Ortiz obtained last week against Fernandez is similar. “I regret that David’s mother has chosen to use the courts to assert a baseless claim against me in the form of a restraining order,” Ortiz said. “I have not seen her in person for over a year, and since then communication between us has overwhelmingly been limited to texts.” Earlier Tuesday, Ortiz tearfully told a Dominican television news outlet that it “breaks my soul” to see “my son become an enemy of mine” amid the dispute."
  7. I don't see any reason why the players would not agree to report by July 1. They want as many games as possible. In fact, they were pleasantly surprised that the owners are still going with 60 games rather than 48 or 50. Apparently, the two sides are still hashing out a few of the safety protocols.
  8. The owners' last proposal, which was rejected, was for a 60 game season at prorated salaries with the following concessions: 1. Universal DH for two years. 2. A guaranteed $25 million in playoff pools. 3. $33 million in forgiven salary advances. 4. Overall earning for players which amounted to 104% of prorated salary. 5. Removing expanded postseason in 2021. So, the players rejected a 60 game season with the above concessions from owners, only to be given a mandated 60 game season without the above concessions, just so they could file a grievance, which they will undoubtedly lose. Not to mention this does nothing to help restore relationships between the two sides, and it does nothing to help restore the faith in fans. Doesn't make much sense to me.
  9. No, the players must report within a week. The season is due to start somewhere around July 26, provided it is not derailed by the coronavirus.
  10. All I can say is, I hope the accusations by his ex are not true.
  11. Don't get me started on Sale's surgery! LOL
  12. Forty players and MLB staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus last week. If this trend continues, then sadly, it won't matter whether the owners and players can come to an agreement.
  13. I am still hoping for the return of baseball and other sports. It's not that I don't have other things to enjoy, but baseball is my absolute first passion as far as entertainment goes. Safety first, of course, but I hope it returns this year, even if for only 50 games. That said, I am fed up with the negotiations. As we can see from even most of the people here, they are turning most people off.
  14. Sweaters and tea time? Sounds like kind of a snooty sport to me. LOL
  15. The latest on the negotiations is that the owners are not going to make a counter proposal from their current 60 game season. (How many times have we heard that a side is not going to make a counter proposal?) So apparently, it will either be 60 games agreed upon or 50 games mandated by Manfred, who is not back on his 'there will be a season' mantra. Good grief. The cluster$#!% just keeps getting worse and worse. I was really hopeful for a season. Now with the coronavirus spikes in many areas, I don't think it's going to happen.
  16. Also, MLB is shutting down spring camps to reestablish protocols.
  17. Yikes! I don't know what protocols college football has in place as far as testing and isolation, but IMO, I think that leagues are really going to have to limit travel and keep players more or less quarantined. All of this movement and interaction with the general public is not going to keep the infection out. Once it gets into a training facility, it will likely spread very quickly due to the nature of sports.
  18. Yeah, that would be horrible. Some more players have tested positive, two from the Angels and one from the Astros, I believe. MLB is now reconsidering the "bubble" approach to the season where they play all of their games in a centralized location. The problem is that the two places they were considering, AZ and FL, are two places that are seeing some of the largest spikes.
  19. I'm not sure that I have ever watched a cricket or a rugby match. Or are they called games? I have a friend who has repeatedly tried to explain the game of cricket to me, and it just doesn't comprehend. LOL
  20. Five Phillies players and three staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. They have temporarily closed their training facility in Clearwater, FL. The Tampa Bay Lightning have also closed their facility. These spikes may just end up keeping baseball from returning, after all that mess over money.
  21. I have never been able to get into soccer, but as you know, many other countries are rabid about it. Soccer fans are crazy.
  22. It's a good strategy, if you ask me.
  23. I'm not trying to say that baseball players aren't skilled, or that it doesn't take a lot of skill to play baseball at the major league level. They are highly skilled. IMO, it takes more skill to play baseball than it does to play soccer. In fact, I often joke that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of skill or strategy going on in soccer. Just kick the ball and hope it goes where you want it to go. LOL
  24. I'm sure there are many things that baseball players can do that soccer players can't do. However, you will have a hard time convincing me that baseball players are as well conditioned as soccer players are.
  25. It is ridiculous. Manfred and Clark can't even agree on what was said during a meeting that occurred 24 hours ago. SMH I say go with 66 games and call it a day.
