  1. Ha! I was not.
  2. I had a pretty good view into the dugout for most of the night. 'Lifeless' is right. As I say, it's no surprise really, they're hardly likely to be jumping around for joy, but I think there's a real lack of belief in their own abilities right now. Too many people are struggling at the same time.
  3. There's one good way to get around that...
  4. There are times when Jacko speaks such enormous amounts of s*** with unwavering confidence; it simply has to be admired.
  5. I was at the game last night and very close to the players. I think we have problems. There was a real lack of energy and enthusiasm. Everyone looks really lacking in belief. None of that is surprising when we started the way we have, but it's first game against the Yankees. I thought I'd see more energy. Something feels very wrong at the moment. That said there's too much talent for us to carry on being this bad, but it wouldn't be a massive surprise to me if we carry on being this bad long enough for it to cost us this year. I'd move back Betts to the lead off spot, too. Less players on base for him to hit in front of but he is also capable of attacking the pitcher from the first pitch and that can help destabilise them. Sometimes you just need to not mess around with a winning formula.
  6. Is Leon likely to start tonight? I'm heading to the game, would love to see some vintage Sale.
  7. Feel bad for Swilhart and I would have bene tested to make Vaz the fall guy, but happy to see Leon back in the bigs. The pitching staff love him and they are struggling. Bring back what worked so well last year.
  8. You've certainly been going all out recently to make yourself look stupid, for sure.
  9. A sacrifice we can all get on board with.
  10. I'm more concerned with how far we are behind the Yanks and Rays. Hopefully we can keep it going against the Orioles and roll into NYC and take them to school again. If we can get going we will head into the Rays series in good spirits. Last night might just well have been the catalyst.
  11. It really amazes me how many people can't see why people are advocating for Leon. I mean we could listen to the starting pitchers who've called him one of the best catchers they've thrown to, and excellent, routinely, but I mean what would they know right? He may not be the answer to our problems, and he certainly isn't offensively going to blow teams away, but the pitching staff love and trust him. Why there is a need to overlook this is beyond me.
  12. Yes the man who the pithing staff love and rave about and led them to such such a fantastic season last year, is DEFINITELY the problem.
  13. This obviously true, and you only have to look back at last season where people were losing their s*** in game threads when we were beating all in front of us. That said, there are issues with the team right now, on virtually every area. To be kind, there is a lack of focus, too. It would be ridiculous to make any solid predictions for the rest of the season this early, but talking about the very obvious issues at play is fair game. For what it's worth, I don't think we will be this bad for too much longer, a regression to the mean is due, but we will see.
  14. I don't think we should discount comfort level between pitchers and catchers as well. When there's a level of trust and belief between pitcher and a certain catcher that isn't there with others, that's an intangible that should be kept in mind. I doubt it will happen and I doubt we could get anything worhtwhile, but I'd be more than happy to trade Vaz and bring back Sandy. I don't (and haven't for a while now) see what Vaz brings us that is worth keeping him around on his contract. Leon with a Swilhart as back up would be my preferred choice.
  15. Exactly this. If anyone thinks we are deliberately sending out our star pitcher while injured I think a trip to the doctor is required. And not for Sale.
  16. I think it's a combination of a couple of things. The hangover from the WS. A lot of players played to their maximum last year, that likely won't be repeated for all of them. We deliberately set out to have a slow and easy Spring Training for a lot of the staff, the pitchers in particular, and while I definitely see the reasons for that, we didn't build up the momentum we had coming out of ST last year and kind of scuttled into opening day. Last year you could see the belief. This year we seem unsure of ourselves. I'm sure it will right itself but we have issues, no question. And yet the Yanks have had by far the easier start and you've not pulled away from us despite the fact we can barely buy a win right now. As bad as our start has been I'm pretty relieved that your lot have dropped so many games against the Orioles and Tigers. Injuries or not, you've blown a good opening opportunity to create a large early gap between us. Something you know only too well.
  17. We've got serious problems. I can understand the slow start from the pitchers, but we are poor in nearly every facet of the game right now.
  18. Annoying to have the $2.5 sitting in the minors, but if he accepts the assignment it's the best possible out come for us I believe. See how the catching goes with Vaz and Swilhart, if it doesn't woork out we've got a guy everyone loves throwing to, ready and waiting. Great cover for any injuries, too.
  19. He will be playing Catcher and no other position. He will get to work wit the pitching staff day in and day out (rather than train at every position) and build better relationships as he does so. He will catch Rodriguez at the very least. Vaz has had several injuries and dips in form, so he will likely get games in that way, He will get plenty of game time to develop.
  20. We will miss what Leon gave us defensively, but I'm really exited to see what Swilhart can finally offer us. I've always liked the kid. The absolute best outcome is if Sandy clears waivers and takes the AAA assignment. We are covered all ways then.
  21. It's unusual, I grant you.
  22. I like the deal even more if he opts out. You're getting to a very dangerous age with the way he throws the ball at that point. If he got through without any major injury and then opted out I'd consider it the perfect signing.
  23. This is great news. The AV is around expected but the years are less than what I thought we might have to go to. Great move. 4 very good pitchers signed up through 2022. IF they stay fit we are in very good shape on that front.
  24. They might not be there this year, but the Padres are looking pretty damn good for the future.
