  1. I mean, that's just factually incorrect isn't it? Because of this possible move we can re-sign him next year. Whether we will or not we will have to see. Mistakes were made, there's no question on that. I'm okay with the idea that this can happen, especially considering the WS rings we've accumulated these past 15/16 years.
  2. The report I've read is that it's because they believed he was ready to go back to the rotation, but Twins had information that said he would need to stay with the bullpen. Meaning a less valuable piece coming back than a starter. edit: What he said ^^ Drop him and Price from the deal. Tell Dodgers to cough up more for Betts. Happy days.
  3. Yup. It made smart business sense to get under the cap, the sense will allow us to compete strongly again, even if do have to take a year out.
  4. Another curse? Foreboding? Jesus Christ some of you are crazy!
  5. This damn Henry and all the success he's brought us! What a bastard!
  6. There's a lot of truth in this. I mean for sure people have the right to be a bit pissed off with the trade. Sport is irrational. People have their favourite players and they don't give a s*** about logic when it comes to that. There's also plenty of questions marks over the trade, too. I don't like the Price side of things for sure. But yes you do often wonder if a fan base that has been excellently managed by FSG and brought incredible success has become entitled and spoiled. All this 'at least we saved a billionaire some money' is nauseating at best, willfully missing the point at worst. People do have a legitimate grudge against the ticket prices, however. They should take a leaf from us 'Pool fans. Singing for a sustained period of time 'you greedy bastards, enough is enough', before walking out on mass during the game got the message through and the prices increase were cancelled.
  7. Yup, 100%. Which is the part of the trade I had the problem with. Trade Mookie, but get maximum return, don't trade half a contract away of one our healthiest (not saying much) starters.
  8. We have different levels of definition for 'awful' I guess. Were mistakes made? Sure. The only 'awful' thing they've done, is hike up ticket prices, especially in light of this trade being a possibility. They gave DD the job and let him run with it. He made lots of mistakes, some of which they likely green lighted. It happens. They've also brought this club incredible success, you'd think maybe they could be cut some slack and allowed to see what their plan is. I guess continually making the Red Sox one of the biggest pay rolls in Baseball affords no slack either.
  9. And a Happy New Year too you and all!
  10. Yeah, Taijuan Walker in particular seems a low risk, possible high(ish) reward. That said, his velocity is down in the workouts for teams, apparently.
  11. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pick up one or two of the starting pitchers still available. There's not a whole lot out there, but he might take a stab on a few on low risk deals.
  12. Yeah the point on the FO not having faith in Price's health entered my thoughts, too.
  13. Do you believe that Mookie will go where he is paid most? If you do, we've just positioned ourselves to be able to offer that. Whether we do is another altogether different question, however.
  14. I've wanted us to trade Mookie for some time. I have no issue with trading him and I'm glad Bloom has the balls to come in and trade off our best player a few months into the job. However, I believe by including Price he lessened the return. This is the part I have issues with. We were reset with just Mookie going. I'd have far preferred we just dealt Mookie and got a bigger haul back with Verdugo (who I love us getting) and then hoping Price is productive and healthy and trade him at the deadline. I know this is a risk if his health fail, but I felt a bigger haul for Mookie would have made it worth the shot.
  15. What do you meany by 'his conduct has been awful'?
  16. No point. We won't get much back for him and we're way under the tax now. We may as well just enjoy the last year of his defense at Fenway now. Unless he gets very hot and we can get something for him. That would be very nice.
  17. Not the adjective I'd have gone with.
  18. People who have their lies exposed often react in such aggressive manners. Not surprising to see, but no less tragic all the same. I've said in the other thread I'm torn on this. Love getting Verdugo, really don't like sending Price and paying him $15m a year for the pleasure, only to get back a young guy that has a very harsh record with injuries. My guess is he's going straight in the pen, as I don't see him staying healthy in a rotation. A lot to play out of the next year or two. One thing for sure, I don't think Bloom is finished yet. I think there are still plenty of moves to go. It at least puts us in play for Mookie next year, even though I don't want us to give away the contract that he'll be after.
  19. I'm really torn on this trade. I wanted it done but I fell uneasy about the outcome. Verdugo is a great get. Young, very good, lots of years ahead, cost controlled. That was a fantastic starting point to what I hoped would be some very enticing prospects added on. The inclusion of Price has obviously scuppered this and to lose the possible prospects; to still pay $15m a year for a spent asset; only get a guy with plenty of upside but a seriously scary injury record in return - that tilts the trade away from what could have been very good to who knows at this point. We were under the tax with the Mookie trade. Don't tack on Price if it kills the return. Hold him, see if he starts well, trade him then. In short, I really wish we hadn't tacked on Price, to pay only half, and gone with the bigger return. But we'll see. These things always take years to figure out if it was the right decision or not.
  20. Yeah, that's a fair point.
  21. I don't know if you're kidding, but I really want to believe you're not.
  22. For an exceptionally smart man, that felt like an exceptionally dumb thing to do.
  23. None of us has insider knowledge. We all know this going in to said discussions.
  24. I bet he wouldn't have pulled that same s*** Swilhart's Ghost did yesterday.
  25. You can buy throat sweets for that.
