  1. Yeah he very clearly did try to trade Casas and Masa. The problem was, he tried to packaging them together in almost every deal by most reports.
  2. Either player loses a year of control if either Anthony (definitely could happen) or Mayer (less so) wins Rookie of the Year. I believe that they fall out of consideration for these awards at the end of May. In regards to "What are we waiting for?" I'd say Mayer to hit more regularly, and Anthony to show he's over his shoulder issue and doesn't need to DH. So I can see the end of May making sense (from a Breslow point of view).
  3. I think Yoshida coming up is the least likely scenario to be honest. I wouldn't be shocked if we've seen Yoshida take his last swing in the majors for the Red Sox. I think we'll make do with what we have (barring injury) until we can call up Mayer to replace Hamilton if he's still struggling and Mayer has kicked on at AAA. Can't see that happening until after another year of control kicks in. Grissom could be brought up earlier instead, but his defence just isn't good enough to cover the positions that Hamilton does, so I don't see it. My feeling is Grissom builds value in AAA and is moved. If Mayer is blocked (and he currently is bar an unpalatable utility role), this kid got no chance. Anthony could be called up much earlier, but the longer it takes, the more it make sense to hold onto his further year of control, also.
  4. I thought I heard them say on commentary today that it was last season? I may have misheard that, though. I'm not sure if it's new or not, he hasn't been a worry before last year's ASB, but man, it's a worry seeing how late he is on them right now.
  5. His OPS is somewhat skewed by that really weird breakout series against the Cardinals mind. He has been far less impressive either side. I'd be interested in knowing how they pitched him in that series, whether it was a steady diet of fastballs or they gave him off speed to hit. I can't remember off the top of my head.
  6. That was a frustrating game to watch. We were never really further back than 2, but it never felt likely we were coming back.
  7. I'm not interested in what either of you are saying to get rises out of each other, I'm just saying the ASB is a natural point to start from if you're worried about Devers right now. And a lot of people are rightly worried about Devers right now.
  8. I get where you're coming from, but the ASB is a natural starting point. I'm with you in that I don't think he's suddenly bad, but something is up. Even today - they're just throwing him fastball after fastball and he just cannot catch up. Pitchers aren't even trying anything else against him.
  9. I think you're being a little belligerent here, Moon. He clearly didn't play as well after the ASB. And he's been struggling this year so far too. He obviously shouldn't be written off, but it's fair to question if there's a problem here. Whether it be, fitness, form or the DH thing.
  10. Agreed. People wanting to trade our cheap, 8 WAR guy is wild.
  11. I'm still of the mind that being full-time DH could be playing its part. That shot then of him looking frustrated, staring into space... you can clear your mind/get your head on the defence when you're playing the field. But when all you get to do is sit there and think about how you're not hitting... That's a tough deal
  12. Easy to see why Breslow was reportedly all over Woo in trade talks with Mariners.
  13. Agreed. I really like Dobbins, I hope he can go on to be a solid pitcher.
  14. Whatever you want to call it - it was a pretty decent first outing after a late start to the season through injury.
  15. It's better than just that - The Red Sox received a Competitive Balance Round A selection in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, which comes with a slot value of $2,766,100 That extra, nearly $3m, is hugely valuable. Feels like a very impressive trade at this point.
  16. It's been mostly click bait but there's been some noise recently around moving Mayer for Alcántara later in the year. I'm not sure it makes sense with Bregman possibly opting out and Story hardly a picture of health, but I can see the appeal if Alcántara proves he's back to his best. Mind you, if he is, half the league will be after him. I really do feel Breslow has a big move in him come trade deadline if we're very much in it (and not a game or two out of the wildcard spots). Crochet shows he'll pull the trigger if it's right. But Mayer for anyone could be too steep a price.
  17. This feels most likely. He's able to play all the positions Hamilton can and likely better. But they won't burn a year just to have him as a utility now. But when they're free of that they can bring him up and bed him in with no pressure. You have the back up plan to Bregman then if he goes, and challenging Story if he doesn't.
  18. Alas, if only those stats existed a week ago,... Hopefully this small sample size stretches into prolonged play. Being stuck behind Bregman, Story and Campbell is a tough mountain to scale, however. There isn't a Rafaela you can see them moving aside for him in the infield. Though injury worries are more prevalent in the infield for sure.
  19. I'd say that response sums up the way you approach conversations nicely. All the best to you. 👍
  20. As a few of the posters have mentioned - Anthony looks like he will bet on himself. I think this assumption came from a report on Mass Live where he'd hinted it in a group interview. Not to say it won't happen obviously, but yeah that feels like it is going to be a tough one, and if he's as good as we're al hoping - tit'll be costly. Mayer will get done I think, but so far he's come with some worrying injury trends, so we'll have to see how that plays out, too.
  21. Asking you how you view ST stats is a rant? Um, okay. By the way, the conversation started with you stating: I then mentioned this was bordering on panic to which you replied: But yeah, no one has ever mentioned a player coming up to energise a team, huh? You then followed this up by pompously declaring that I should check baseball reference and that Mayer's stats show he is as good as Story. Mayer was hitting near the Mendoza line at the time and had an OPS of just above 500. As fun as this has been, I'll bow out of the conversation here. I'd rather have discussions with posters who enter them in good faith.
  22. Revisionism of almost every kind. From decisions around pitcher changes, to trades, to contract extension/offers. In every case you can make the right decision and get the wrong outcome. But in general fans will hammer the mistakes regardless, and often even forget that they supported such a move. It happens in all sports, but baseball seems uniquely open to the rule.
  23. They have to take risks with these kids. Some will work out and some won't. In fairness to you, I remember you being against the deal from early on, but an AVV of $8m is not going to break us if it isn't a roaring success. I'd rather these risks be taken than on say, the Story/Yoshida's of the world.
  24. I was thinking this exact thing last night as Casas scuffled again before the big hit - if we'd signed him to an extension (and a meaty one at that), the complaints would be pouring in right now. There's a relatively simple idea that baseball fans in particular need to be more comfortable with than most sports fans I believe - you can make the right decision and still get the wrong outcome. Revisionism can be a real pain in the arse in this sport. Mainly because fans in general have very short memories.
