  1. They're not. Like all clubs, they will spend the odd year in the red (on purpose) and some years in the green. They are acquiring record commercial success at the club, never mind on field success, too. The Sox don't need to give them a penny, even if it was allowed to use that money, which they wouldn't be. Premier League football clubs have to exist in the parameters of their own turnover. Which is why Newcastle can't just buy the Premier League every year.
  2. The finances in European football are so stringently ring fenced, there would be zero point moving money from the Sox to LFC as they wouldn't be able to use it. Liverpool spends to its limits and also, FSG take very little money out of it. The finances are very easily researched and broken down. People need to stop peddling this s***. It is utterly devoid of facts.
  3. Smart move by Bres if it works.
  4. Yes, agreed. Feels inevitable, which is quite exciting. Tyler Samaniego was on Pirates 40 man - they saved him from the Rule 5. The Sox wanted one free spot for the rule 5, reports Cotillo.
  5. I'll give Bres credit for one thing - he finds ways to continually surprise with his trades. I was wondering why we'd made this trade when I saw it, and was close to horrified upon first glimpse, but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced another trade is coming from our pitching surplus, and so I'll wait until all the moves have been made to see what happens. It's exciting to see us making moves if nothing else. And Oviedo has some serious upside.
  6. The Oviedo move surely nudges us towards trading a couple of starting pitchers now? I don't think we'll trade Oviedo, but Harrison, Dobbins, Crawford, and maybe one of Early/Tolle are starting to look likely.
  7. Me, three. Amazing how age gets your arse in gear health wise. All those wasted years...in every sense of the word.
  8. Well, I specifically said that he is NOT a journalist, but he is media. And my point was only that he has called out (repeatedly) the FO for not being honest and talking more. If you want to take up a conversation about how good is superfan brand is, or his journalistic skills when interviewing, you're going to have to find someone that cares about such things. I like some of Coley's takes, some he's way off, same as everyone really. Tyler is the only one I really like as he actually looks at stats and evidence to back up some of his positions, but in general, I take them all with a huge pinch of salt. Being media doesn't mean you should be listened to. In fact, evidence shows us across the spectrum you absolutely shouldn't.
  9. Of course he's media. He has one of the biggest podcasts around, routinely has players and FO members on to interview. He is hired by NESN and is a contributor to MLB Network. He isn't a journalist. He very much is part of the media, even if we don't like it. Regardless, the original point stands, there were a lot of heat for the FO to talk more and be open with the fans, from many different angles.
  10. I don't disagree. I like it when I see it written down like this, but there is a glaring true power bat hole in that line up. With it spread around it might not matter. But I'd feel better with big time bopper in there for sure. But I don't dislike it.
  11. I'm struggling to believe that the Jays also bring back Bichette at the moment.
  12. Ragans is so difficult to predict in terms of value. The guy clearly has a sketchy injury record, but when he's healthy he's some pitcher. Almost every trade offer I've seen for him (even the fair(ish) ones) as been met by either rolling eyes from Sox or Royal fans.
  13. Lackey was a good deal. As you say - he was part of us winning a WS. Nothing else matters.
  14. I wouldn't want Okamoto at 3rd. If we got Bregman/Bichette and him to play at 1st, that looks decent, but I'm not sure that solves our power outage.
  15. That's just not true. Carrabis and his lot have been hammering them for years for not talking and being open. McAdams and Cotillo literally open up every single podcast with the audio of them saying if they want the fans to listen and trust them they need to talk. Passan and Rosenthal have hit them over their lack of talking. And I wasn't even talking about the media so much as the fans. They have been criticised from all comers for the way they have disappeared the past 4 or 5 years. And it's all been fair enough criticism. But personally, I'd rather not hear anything from them as when they do talk they put their foot in their mouths and/or give away leverage.
  16. Very well said. I think the only reason we're hearing so much more from the FO recently is because they've been getting hammered for not talking enough the past 5/6 years. I'd rather we heard next to nothing from Breslow and the rest personally, for leverage if nothing else.
  17. I think even getting rid of Hicks would be tough. Masa I can only see going if a good prospect is attached as well, or swapping for an equally worse contract. Stuck with him feels about right.
  18. How dare you! Word on the street is, almost every GM is asking us throw Hicks or Masa into deals.
  19. Fred loves tying himself up in knots. He'll take a position and pivot and twist anyway he can to keep it rather than revaluate.
  20. Has J.T. Realmuto played any 1st base? It crossed my mind in an unlikely plan they'd want him for that spot instead...
  21. As it stands he's out of their organisation so they've lost him. If they bring him back then they'll start looking very dangerous rotation wise. I don't expect them to, though.
  22. Cease can be a very good pitcher, but I'm glad we didn't sign him to that deal. And as you say losing Baassitt is no small thing. It's a big signing but not a game changer.
  23. Have you not met Fred? I'll give you a hint - it's option 2. Never met a more pessimistic, negative, downright grumpy fan in all my life.
