  1. Quoting you to address the last point. For years now when they go into the 9th down a few runs they never make it exciting, they just lie down and die.
  2. Perhaps. His career OPS is .810. But he has also average 15 home runs a season from a power position. And he's 33 so his production is on the decline.
  3. I hate this lineup before the first pitch of the season. Far too many question marks and marginal starters. When you are counting on players like Trevor Story and Marcello Mayer to be solid players and an unproven talent in Anthony to provide a star like performance, when you already know your corner infielders are below average hitters and you don't have one single big bat that scares people, I see no reason to change my opinion.
  4. I never counted on Casas. I'm so done with Story. Now we can't even get a solid performance from our ace. I'm so sick of my teams sucking. All of them have sucked for years and this looks like another lost summer. F You John Henry. So much for "this offseason will be different".
  5. You mean like that guy in San Francisco?
  6. I didn't like this lineup going into spring training and I feel no different now. Just way too many question marks without the big bat teams fear. I'm not counting on Trevor Story, why should I? They have an entire lineup filled with questionable, marginal or unproven bats. What has taken place is no surprise to me.
  7. I just figured they wanted to break it up and go lefty, righty, lefty. Gray's numbers don't really impress me all that much, I'm sure he's fine but not sure he's a number 2 on a good staff.
  8. I get why they wanted a RH to break up the left handed dominated staff. But I never considered Sonny Gray to be a #2. The biggest problem with MLB is their inability to manage their underperforming umpires. Players and coaches are held accountable but umpires are not. Can't be out of challenges by the 3rd inning, especially with this clown behind the plate. Abreau's HR was awesome. Shame it was wasted, they had plenty of chances. I won't lie, I was concerned that Chapman may revert to control problems and last season was an aberration. Glad to see I may have been wrong there.
  9. My first experience with the new challenge system. Not because it worked for me I just think it's fantastic. They player, not the manager, makes the call. I went back and timed it and it took all of 17 seconds. What I was most excited about, other than the pitching, was seeing Mayer get 2 hits. I'm concerned about his bat at the ML level, he lost a lot of development games.
  10. Yeah that was my understanding as well. I'm not sure where these comments about Ohtani are coming from, he appeared to be the victim.
  11. Yeah I love this approach. It's always a gamble and you will miss, but I for one am pretty pumped that we have RA locked up at a reasonable cost.
  12. I like the trade too and I'm glad we have a complete team this close to spring training. But this lineup is still weak and we give up way too much power and offense from our corner infielders when compared to our opponents.
  13. Very happy to see Hicks and his contract go, surprised anyone would want him.
  14. I see an extended work stoppage and I'm not sure how it's resolved. The Dodgers ARE ruining baseball, the iffy competitive balance that was once in place is now gone. It's a joke really. Other owners can't be happy at what they are doing. And if going bankrupt gave them an incredible financial advantage well that makes the situation far worse. I really believe they will push for some sort of cap, and of course the union will never agree to that. So this where they will stand IMO.
  15. I compared our lineup with the Yankees in that playoff series and they weren't even close. We don't have that big bat that scares teams and the lineup had no depth. Just too many weak or below average or average hitters all down the lineup.
  16. I don't trust Bello, it's been enough time to see growth IMO. But of course I really like the starting rotation. I see Sandoval and Early filling out the rotation in a really left handed dominated starting staff. But I don't see much of a market for Bello so I guess they will run it back again and see if he has learned how to utilize his good stuff. I still don't like a lineup filled with so many holes and question marks and without that big stick (or 2). I'm not as confident as most that Marco Mayer can hit major league hitting and that will be a key. I'm also convinced so many of the errors were throwing errors by the infield, Bregman was certainly guilty as well. A legit first baseman will fix a lot of these problems.
  17. I don't see how Casas can lead the team in home runs when he will be sitting behind Contreras. I'm tied of waiting on Triston Casas. As he has notorious slow starts I don't see him as an effective bench player when he needs ABs to get going every year. I'm not sure the team still sees him as a long term solution so I can see them trading him. And then we all hold our breaths and hope he does not blow up for another team.
  18. I know the trade is not recent and the conversation has moved on but I'll just say I'm OK with this move but not really excited about it. I'm convinced so many infield throwing errors would have been avoided with a legit first baseman, I think this move improves the overall infield defense. So there's that. But he's still below average offensively for a 1st baseman and we will be giving up a lot of power numbers at the position to our opponents.
  19. So yet another offseason where they promised big things, pursued big names but came away with little. I'm getting very tired of this.
  20. I would prefer not to deal 2 rare players, pitchers developed through the Red Sox system, for a position player in his 30's.
  21. Yeah I'm really hoping a 36 year old who is clearly on the decline is not considered the solution for the #2 spot in the rotation.
  22. Sorry for the late reply, I'm not around much during the offseason. You are using regular season stats. Every post I have made has been in reference to his PLAYOFF STATS, I was very clear about that. They didn't pay him that kind of money to have great regular seasons. They were in the World Series the previous 2 seasons, they would have been in the mix without the trade for Mookie. No they got Mookie to get over the hump and actually win the Series. They got him to produce when it mattered in October and overall he simply has not done that.
  23. I've been talking about past performance from the start of that contract as well as future decline. In his 6 playoff seasons in LA, with all the protection that lineup provides, he only hit well in 3 of those playoffs. And that includes '21 when his OPS was .782. I'm pretty sure the Dodgers were looking for more.
  24. $500 million for a good defensive shortstop who comes up small in October on a regular basis who will continue to age? He has been in the playoffs 10 times and only 4 times did he have an OPS over .740. I'm still bitter about the trade, not pretending I'm not. I'm just saying it's easier to take when I see him fail in the playoffs, if he pulled an Ortiz the trade would be more painful.
  25. Oh I never implied otherwise, they will continue to outspend their competition. I'm just saying this contract will soon have diminishing returns, if that has not already started, and the deferred money is coming due at some point. I for one was not looking forward to Mookie having a performance like Vlad and I'm glad that didn't happen.
