  1. Shootout didn't have a goal until like the 7th round. Smith hugged the referee after scoring the game winning goal.
  2. Nice dead-center bomb today from Nap. JBJ surprised me with a quality opposite field hit off the monster. Pedey and Ortiz are doing better than when that college kid struck them out a few days ago...
  3. When is the first televised spring training game going to be?
  4. So before today, the only possible way for the U.S. to get in the second seed was for this to happen: US beats Slovenia by 4 or more goals and the Canada-Finland game to go into overtime. And that's exactly what happened. (Well okay, the US only had to win their game by 3 since Canada ended up winning, but whatever). On top of that, the net-dislodging incident yesterday with Russia saved our butts. What I'm saying is that a lot of unlikely circumstances have all happened for the US to get the second seed. We're capable of beating Russia and Canada is having problems playing at their full potential. We have as good a chance as ever of winning this thing, so let's WIN the olympics.
  5. Please, Dempster, replace Dell and be the new reporter.
  6. Since Jeter is retiring and the Sox announced that they want Bogarts to be mainly a shortstop this year, this means Drew will likely go to the Yanks. Drew probably doesn't want the Sox milking another 1 year deal outa him, and the Yanks have a new reason to give Drew years.
  7. Possibly, short-term. If this kind of thing becomes routine like it's no big deal then it might hurt the rivalry though. Depends on how the public looks at it I suppose.
  8. Well according to my longtime baseball fan Dad, guys are moving around way more now than they used to, and I always thought this to be true. The current state of the game is okay, but I don't want it to get exaggerated much more. The reason I don't think it's healthy for the game for Drew to switch to the Yanks is because we already lost one of our championship team position players to them. It would ruin the drama of the rivalry too much if two of them converted. The rivalry is healthy for the character and history of the game.
  9. I wasn't trying to make an argument in a debate. Not everything is an argument in some debate. I was just stating an interesting fact about how Middlebrooks affected the outcome of our WS championship. And tell me how fun it would be to watch a sport with an exaggerated version of the trading mindset that exists. Imagine Jeter being on the Yanks one year, the mets another, and then the Sox another. Over half your team being traded away for some slight statistical advantage each year, etc. Do I have to be an aggressive new-age logichound "conventional" thinker to make sense nowadays? And I'm 19.
  10. Tell me the odds of us winning the WS if Middlebrooks didn't hit that double in the bottom 8th of ALCS Game 2. Also, we must get Drew back. I can't handle the Yanks getting him; one position player switching teams and playing traitor is bad enough. The breaking down of what it means to be allied to a team is dangerous for the sport's popularity. Nobody wants to see their team's established traditional players get moneyball'd away to other teams just for a slight statistical reason. You can't just let math dictate the market or the sport will lose all its character; people won't be attached to their teams anymore and baseball's popularity will go down.
  11. Tanaka's gone...Welcome to Stephen Drew's Offseason everybody. Also, this is very rough but Kershaw is making like $8,000 per pitch.
  12. And so the long, overly drawn out, taking-forever decision of Stephen Drew is the only thing left for the Sox this offseason...
  13. Now the dodgers just need to trade for A-Rod and Cano to complete their team.
  14. Go to your Dick's Sporting Goods and buy a baseball. Then, pick it up and throw it. Then, go get it and throw it again.
  15. Remember Verlanders 7-year 180M deal? Well now Clayton Kershaw has a 7-year 215M deal with the dodgers... Highest payed pitcher in baseball history or something.
  16. The fact that this relationship is going on means that the hot stove is in fact very hot.
  17. The development of this relationship is the #1 most important thing this off-season.
  18. Ok a few things: I thought Middlebrooks had a wife. Just because people are dating doesn't mean they're "goin at it heh" I always had a feeling that Will and Jenny would be a good couple. EDIT: Nvm, Middlebrooks doesn't have a wife. Also on the subject of Jenny Dell, we really need to give her better interview questions for next year. I'm sure all the players don't look forward to hearing "How does that walkoff make you feel?" or "how does it feel to be at this point?"
  19. Yep, Choo went to the rangers for 7 years and 130 million
  20. Choo's going to Texas probably. Time to trade for Bryce Harper! Jk
  21. I waited 4 years and waited through a close Fifa Qualification to see the US get mathematically eliminated by losing 2 games :l
  22. I think hockey is usually more intense than soccer, however the World Cup is a whole different animal and rivals all sports in tension and drama.
  23. Nap was the most important guy to get back. He's gonna be hitting them off the monster all year long.
  24. Should be funny to watch the Yanks lose the wild card game this year.
