  1. But think about it. We've tried everything and nothing has worked. The only thing that can counter the bad luck of the Sox this season is the bad luck of Thunder. I say a Thunder GT is worth a shot.
  2. Did the ejection of the third base coach affect the outcome of the game?
  3. Really? This is what our big comeback will get us?
  4. Wow nice comeback. I like how Drew struck out twice in the big comeback inning.
  5. ... and I wish everyone would stop caring about basketball. It's the reason why soccer, hockey, and baseball aren't more popular in this country. People get so hooked on the instant gratification of basketball's high amount of scoring that they lose the ability to be entertained by sports that involve playmaking. Americans lose interest without constant scoring nowadays.
  6. Good thing Fenway sold out like every game for the whole year basically before the season started!
  7. We lost again but w/e we got out of the group and that was one of the most exciting soccer games I've seen.
  8. Well we've gained half a game on the Jays since the start of that big winning streak a while ago....
  9. We have to have a 66.3% win pace for the rest of the season to win 93 games.
  10. Before the Rays game during batting practice, the pitching machine fired a baseball which the hitter popped up. The baseball landed in the pitching machine where you put the balls in, and got fired again for another pitch.
  11. C'mon Yanks, take down the Jays! Go Yankees!
  12. Unbelievable! Second best comeback of the year! Look at Ortiz, hitting homers like it's his job!
  13. LOL to figure out whether or not clutch hitting exists in general, you'd have to do my study for at least 100 players with a good enough sample size of normal ABs and clutch ABs. Highly doubt anyone has done this or ever will feel like it, so I don't think we'll ever know for sure whether clutch is real or not. I guess we'll just have to tell by watching tons of games.
  14. I guess to figure out whether a hitter is clutch or not, I would take their ABs that meet all of the following criteria: -Runner(s) are in scoring position -Their team is between 4 runs down and 1 run ahead -At the time of the AB, the team has a calculated 20% or greater chance to make the postseason. Take the hitter's average, OBP, slugging, and pitches seen per AB stats from these ABs. Instead of comparing these to their career numbers, compare to their career numbers excluding these ABs (we don't watch the clutch ABs contaminating the normal ABs). Now see if you notice any differences. Optional: Do a similar study for that player in the postseason. Edit: The 20% postseason chance thing may be a little high but whatev you get the idea.
  15. It's worth noting that one of the problems with the sabermetrics studies trying to disprove clutch hitting is that they'll define clutch as something like "hitting with 2 outs and RISP" and look at hitters' average when in that situation, even though that is not always a clutch situation. A lot of the time there's 2 outs and RISP, your team has a comfortable lead so it's not actually a pressure situation. So these studies can sometimes end up with half clutch situations and half non-clutch, making them inaccurate. Also, if your team is one run down in the 9th with the bases loaded and you're batting, but your team is terrible and out of the playoff race, that's not so much a pressure/clutch situation because it doesn't matter much whether your team wins or loses. So there's much more to studying clutch than looking at hitters' stats with men on base versus their stats without.

  17. You should have seen Iran vs Nigeria. Most boring world cup game ever. It ended 0-0 with almost no real scoring chances for either side.
  18. Mujica can save a game 1/3 of the time! Make him the everyday closer!
  19. According to the bit on ESPN about him, he could have hit .400 in a season if the MLB strike didn't happen.
  20. Ghana was in the USA's zone the entire second half of the game. All we could do was hope for a tie. Then that happened. Unbelievable.
  21. Woow!! This was a must win, too. The corner actually worked! This game was almost as good as USA vs Algeria in 2010!
  22. So one of our best players, Altidore, gets an injured hammy and is pulled out on a stretcher.... this could be really bad. We don't have another offenseman who can fill his role. Johannssen is filling in.
  23. Did that really just happen!?? USA scores about a minute into the game!!!!
  24. I am PUMPED for the game! It's at 5:30 eastern on ESPN. USA vs our nemesis Ghana. This is almost a must-win. If we don't at least tie Ghana, we're going to lose the group stage. If Ghana takes the win against us, they'll have 3 points and Germany will have 3 points and we'll have none. Germany is really good; they'll at least finish with 6 points. Ghana, if they beat us, will most likely beat Portugal and end up with 6 or 7 points after finishing all their games. If we lose to Ghana, we'll probably have to get 6 points, which we could only do by beating Portugal AND Germany... yeah, not likely. Basically this game is extremely crucial!!
  25. Can't wait for User Name to say "You guys are being ridiculous. It's still way too early in the season to worry about the standings!"
