  1. If I were a young player, I would likely consider that the possible gains are worth the risk.
  2. Exactly. Good point.
  3. I'm with you on most of this (except the 'nicest people' part--I don't find golfers alas any different from the general population). Also, although my marathon days are well past, I recall that frustrating though it may be, I never felt like ripping my equipment off and hurling it into a tree.
  4. Add me. I've always loved Hanley (w/ the exception of his absurd days in LF). He (like his namesake Manny) make hitting look like the most natural thing in the world (well, let's not get carried away--Hanley does that SOME of the time). They also make baseball look like a fun game to play.
  5. I think this year it's the Hanley flash.
  6. Yeah. I guess every now and then I forget that the internet is as full of acid-witted badasses as it is.
  7. Not as slow as ... Bour was it?... trying to score from first and hitting the wall about half way between 3rd and home.
  8. Odd time for a guy throwing 97-98 to drop a breaking ball into the middle of the plate.
  9. Well, more baseball! (Yay, ... I suppose).
  10. More gruel please.
  11. There's a block function for posters who continually use juvenile sexist, racist, and homophobic language, is there not?
  12. An idiot? So in your opinion, he was trying to hit the ball there?
  13. I wouldn't know of course, but I'm told the firstrowsports site has no problem keeping two or three games going simultaneously of any sport you want.
  14. The 70-year-old woman I play with, who has only been playing a year and a half, beats me and even outdrives me often enough that I don't need any further evidence that girls can play!
  15. Golf is a very maddening and amusing sport to play. Watching golf? I'd say it's half that.
  16. OK. I think I follow that. (As to comparisons, I was thinking of a simple statistical one, not a 'real life' one: just take the results of individual hitting [hitters] from any number of games and put them in different orders and see whether there's a difference in the runs produced. I assume this has been done, and I think what you imply is that these results would not be valid. I imagine it would be difficult to find any guiding principle other than the obvious 'Get your best hitters up to the plate the most number of times.')
  17. Hating? I don't consider it hate. (Maybe I hold them in contempt for valuing money more than anything else.) Most of us could have made far more money than we have in life. Pro athletes (like many others) seem to confuse how much money they make with their value as human beings--and if they do that, they deserve to suffer the consequences.
  18. I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seems to me that this would be extraordinarily simple to test (at least statistically): take the performance from any number of games (same players), and see how many runs are produced when the order is changed. Wouldn't that provide a reasonable test? Of course, you could argue that each AB is situational, so that changing the order of 'what happens' isn't valid. But if you argue that, you are really assuming your conclusion: the argument (you would be saying) is untestable. I'm sure you've gone over this before--sorry, I haven't been following it-- but which of those is your position? (1) That the test (rearranging results) do indeed show a significant difference in batting order? or (2) that it is finally untestable?
  19. Looked to me that the calls were coming from the bench? (At least Vasquez seemed to be taking a look between pitches). No matter: no one expected that final change-up!
  20. That final pitch was awesome!
  21. I guess I never quite understand why, when you have more money than you can ever spend, you would conduct your life solely on the basis of getting more of it. If you're miserable as a result, then you deserve to be.
  22. Multi-screen function. So I got a Blues game on the right and on the left, I watch Sandoval make a really slick play on the RS nickel! (And a base hit!)
  23. Yeah, well Sox fans are just not satisfied with .500 ball, especially when the record is entirely against teams with a NON-WINNING percentage! Today's game obvioully crucial for Cora's future.
  24. He has the worst winning percentage of any manager EVER in the RS! How he still has a job is beyond me.
  25. Fire Cora! DFA everyone! Sell the team!
