  1. OMG, I thought it was impossible that I would like this guy even less that I do already. But once again, ole "Winning Finds Me" comes through with that big hit to keep himself over the Mendoza line.
  2. Who are we listening to in the booth instead of eck?
  3. Yes. They should have done that. An organization run by responsible adults would surely have done that. But even more important, had there been any such people in the organization (that is to say, responsible adults), they would have kept the incident itself from happening or stopped it immediately.
  4. Bring your "YUCK" signs to the game, and display them proudly when Price gets into trouble.
  5. Gosh. A professional athlete in the prime of life backed by 6 other professional athletes tries to intimidate a 65 year old dude in the aisle of a plane. What a freaking bad-ass! Why this bunch is a tough as, say, a group of middle-school internet posters.
  6. Agree entirely. But let's see.
  7. Well, the first part is correct: the league office is probably peopled by weenies. (Not sure whether you meant the second sentence ironically, but I think this is completely within their 'job description'. They have all kinds of regulations about team relations with the media, many of which are an extension of ordinary rules of the workplace. )
  8. To me, absolutely. You have no more right to threaten and abuse an unpopular abrasive reporter than one most people happen to like. We're not talking here about some player in a press conf. or interview tossing out an ill-considered insult. We're talking about a guy essentially 'lying in wait' for a reporter with a group of supporters in the middle of an aisle on a chartered plane. (On a side note, I can't believe the league office is turning a blind eye to this.)
  9. Maybe I wasn't clear in my examples. It's not a matter of 'supervising' role. It's ANY role. If, say, a student criticizes a grade, I absolutely do not have the right to tell them to "F." themselves. I can't confront a colleague in the hallway and start hurling obscenities at them. Eck is part of the organization. And frankly, reporters (even not in the employ of NESN) are part of the vast and amorphous institution of professional sports. And ordinary rules of ordinary work-places are not suspended just because these effing a-holes happen to be highly paid celebrities. (Note that I can say this, because they are public figures and I am not employed in this institution. If I were on the payroll of the RS, I could not.)
  10. Well, in most of our workplaces, we have occasion, while doing our jobs, to criticize someone. Teachers, for example, routinely give out bad grades. Supervisors give bad evaluations. We should not feel that if we do this, we will return to the office or the classroom and a bunch of a-holes will stand up and hurl f-bombs at us. These guys are acting like overgrown middle-school kids or dumb-ass frat-boys. And what is worse, NO ONE on the team is (or at least in this case 'was') willing to stand up like an adult and tell them to chill.
  11. Maybe, but I'm disgusted by what everyone seems to admit are the facts: a bunch of grown men, professional athletes, collectively standing around while one of them hurls f-bombs at a popular reporter, who everyone agrees is doing his job. These guys, and even more, the bozos who manage them, are despicable.
  12. I think that when the 'story' involves a group of players essentially 'lying in wait' in the plane so that can publicly abuse a reporter, while other players (one of their 25 'leaders') and staff sit around and say nothing, then absolutely, it needs to be reported. There have been many dysfunctional RS teams over the past 6 decades or so, but this is the first one I'll be rooting against the rest of the season.
  13. Why don't their 25 "leaders" (all of whom, apparently, think that abusing reporters with HoF credentials is just fine) step up? Or is performance something that needs to be handled 'internally'?
  14. So Devers will 'develop' by sitting on the bench? If he doesn't start, they need to send him back. But in truth, after seeing more detail about the players treatment of Eck, and seeing how some of my once favorite players were involved, for the first time in over 60 years of following the RS, I woke up glad to discover that they had lost last night, and I hope Price gets shelled tomorrow.
  15. Amazing that he recovered after booting it! An E-5 would have made for some high drama.
  16. It's actually quite an extraordinary admission. You don't have anyone in that organization with the stones to say: "Do not abuse reporters. PERIOD." No one who can explain to these children that the millions of dollars they make are largely due to the free publicity they get from sports-writers? No one in the League who is disturbed by this?
  17. Why? Didn't sitting a certain class of people in the rear of the bus work really well the last time it was tried?
  18. Well yes, but what's he supposed to say? "Holy crap, my guys, the little weenies, can't hit for s***. Screw them." You know, the kind of trenchant analysis we fans give of the situation.
  19. How difficult would it have been on that plane to say "Hey, STFU! Seriously, enough!" And the fact that neither Farrell nor any of the supposed 'leaders' on the team said that suggests to me that there ARE no leaders on that team.
  20. Given Price's history, it's probably not worth trying to find his pathetic motivation. The fact that he's a db is enough. That cannot be corrected. But his boorish behavior can be.
  21. So you have a manager who allows his players to abuse reporters? And an ownership that won't demand that he issue an apology? Oh that bodes well. I'm sure the fan base is ENTIRELY behind Price on this one.
  22. Have you seen him play? In the game I saw two weeks ago he made a couple of fantastic plays. It was his hitting that seemed suspect.
  23. Not so. This should be the way it is scored, but it is not. (Unless they've changed it in the last year or so.)
