  1. As you know, parking, food, and ticket prices have nothing to do with player salaries. They are set by what the market will bear, and capping what players make only puts money in the hands of the owners, who are perhaps less generous and social-minded than we might hope. There is only one way to make these prices go down--stop going.
  2. How is it going to affect his hitting? Is he up there thinking 'Quick bat quick bat, ... but damn I really better learn a different way to throw the ball; gee maybe that hop is bad, or is it the skip, oh hell ... was that a strike?"
  3. I love the smell of sexist pigs in the morning.
  4. Yup. 9-2. Clearly the umps' fault. Just as Cleveland's 11-1 win over Detroit was the result of the same umpire bias. Thank God the umpires and league conspired to let the RS win a few WS, just as they were completely responsible for the Cubs winning last year.
  5. When fans say that the umpires/refs favor 'their' team (and I've never heard them do that), then I will consider taking seriously anyone who says they do not.
  6. One thing that all message boards I've seen have in common is contempt for the present manager/coach (I assume, but don't know, that the Patriots and Warriors might be exceptions). Has anyone checked this?
  7. They really need to get rid of the "save" statistic, which is bogus (as proved by Kimbrel's performance last night). It would be fine (it's only a statistic--you could equally record how many pitchers throw a strike on a 1-1 count), if agents and GMs didn't value players according to it, and worse, if managers didn't put in relievers based on it. (The notion that a closer should only be used in a "save" situation.)
  8. So you're saying a professional athlete sits on the bench. He watches his manager or coach get thrown out, generally for acting like an unprofessional a-hole. And that this professional athlete then says, "Oh yeah! I'm ready to play now."
  9. 4 straight losses. Small sample size. ... But then, so would be 10 or 15 or ... hell ... 20.
  10. No one remembers where they are hitting in the order when they're standing in front of a 90+mph fastball.
  11. Dumb rule. As Bob Costas noted, replay was not designed to micro-examine what happens after the player hits the bag (e.g., his foot bouncing off for a split second). They should definitely change that rule: once player has made contact with base, he is considered in contact with it as long as he stays over it. Meanwhile, RS suck tonight!
  12. His dumb-ass notions of "the right way" and "professionalism" is wearing. So having a pitcher throw at a guy because he swings the bad is 'professional'? Then, as if in a middle-school sports story, Nunez' getting a hit the next time up is 'the right way'? i.e., if he had grounded out, it would have been 'the wrong way'?
  13. Exactly what "message" does that send?? Next time, you better hit the ball?
  14. I think the rule-makers assume that a fluke thumb injury is probably less serious than, say, a concussion or broken leg. I love the rule. But then, that may be because I'm not a big fan of pointless injuries or Pete-Rose-style cheap shots.
  15. Is a .230 hitter what the Sox need right now? Not sure I see the point unless, as you suggest, that they think JBJ's injury is bad. I thought what was reported today was that there was no break or tear. (OK. Just explained on NESN--FO had been looking at him for a couple of weeks.)
  16. I thought this was the internet. Now you're saying ordinary rules of civil behavior apply?? I'm shocked! What a world! What a world!
  17. There once was a pitcher named Fister They got a home run Said 'This game is done!" After nine they could not have been pissed-er.
  18. Yeah, that Nunez 0-13 slump is really a matter of concern. I'm quite proud to have pointed it out.
  19. Just reviewing the "Fister sucks" posts of the first inning ...
  20. Sounds like "no." As did his immediate reaction after touching home.
  21. How did JBJ get his hand in there? ("Oh, I see! It's a perfect throw. Catcher is in perfect position. Gosh, maybe if I just reach over the glove then slap down on the plate while my body is flying by ...")
  22. Ha. I was just about to add "or about Nunez being 0-13"? Then I thought I'd wait one more pitch before posting.
  23. Saw him play in Portland and I thought his defense was outstanding! I was surprised at the "line" on him when he came up. Btw-- he's now 0 for his last 11 with 6 Ks. Is that a matter of concern to anyone?
  24. The throw itself wasn't the problem; after the double-clutch, he had no chance. (Maybe you coaches can explain: it looked to me that Devers was set up for a force play-- is the idea to keep your foot on the bag so that you know where to make the tag? I don't think he had a chance of making any kind of tag in that position.)
  25. 0-3 last night. Clearly a mistake bringing him up and ruining his career. Should have traded him when his stock was high for a veteran middle reliever.
