  1. I suppose - but it is also not playing your best org CF at CF for reasons.
  2. true - though Turner (obviously positional value is different) is a better player than Kike ... he can be an above average DH for another year. If he opts in, things will be fine. As far as the OF goes, i could see Rafaela in CF bumping Duran to RF and Verdugo to LF. Not the sexiest OF offensively but defensively could be excellent. The one thing is all these positions are left handed save for Rafaela and there are probably 300-400 PAs there for Turner just as a platoonish guy.
  3. Bloom is in an interesting spot ... he knows that this team is not a Dodger/Braves/Astros level inner circle contender. But he also knows that in baseball of all sports, being an inner circle contender on paper is not particularly important. If you get in the tournament, you can win it. We've seen too many examples of that. The Sox are not in a position to trade top prospects for a rental. So far the moves make sense - try to add bullpen help and maybe bet on Story's return to SS to aid the run prevention. Another 2B would be nice but cost matters. Jonathan India has not been good - but if that is a buy and retain low opportunity, you do have to look at it. His defense is bad, but that (tee hee) doesn't hurt the Sox team defense overall.
  4. This is probably right ... he is definitely the best CF in the system.
  5. I actually kind of agree with Dojji that bringing up Rafaela and putting him at 2nd could be an idea if the trade market doesn't shake down. Bloom made his statement about the rent-a-player and he is right to a degree. Yes, the Sox made the Schwarber deal - but I do think the Sox were interested in Schwarber returning. Good on the team for making buying a possibility.
  6. Well, if you don't count the whole NL pennant thing.
  7. The team needs a couple of useful arms. Kike has been one of the league's worst regulars this season. Playing out of position, but the bat has been the failure. Oh well. We will always have 2021.
  8. The 2019 story was really simple. They returned one of the best "on paper" rotations in the AL and only one of the pitchers was any good. (E-Rod)
  9. Bello maybe. But the team's two best starters falling to pieces would ruin any season.
  10. The thing is that some of the pitchers which had potential but serious questions have made some actual strides. Heck, Murphy couldn't throw strikes at all at the minor league level and he has somehow flashed some solid control in The Show.
  11. It's been the most since Cherington was GM for sure. That said, pretty much the only team that has seemed immune to the ups and downs of prospect graduations and trades is the Dodgers.
  12. The law writeups on the 4 ... https://theathletic.com/4703833/2023/07/21/mlb-top-prospects-2023-minor-leaguers/ 3. Marcelo Mayer (#11 preseason) 48. Ceddane Rafaela (preseason #37) 50. Kyle Teel (new) .... And of course, Nazzan Zanetello is definitely in the Roman Anthony camp of a guy who can make a major leap ... depending on how what seems to be rare athleticism and twitch turns into baseball stuff.
  13. Law on the Sox draft (he did note it as one of his half dozen favorite drafts): https://theathletic.com/4681470/2023/07/12/mlb-draft-2023-american-league-report/
  14. Kiley McDaniel on the Sox draft
  15. Anthony on fire at Greenville. The promotion was really interesting since it was almost all on the batted ball data.
  16. The Sox have seemed to have gotten some decent results from the "senior sign" pitchers. Expectations are limited - but more than org players. Put another way - Chris Murphy being any sort of big leaguer at all is a big win for that sort of player.
  17. I guess - but the Red Sox got two Top 40 talents out of lower positions. All drafts are crapshoot to a certain degree and MLB is more than that.
  18. Teel to me could be as high as #4. Excellent college resume (performance and level of competition) combined with a high likelihood of staying behind the plate. In terms of "likelhood of being a solid major leaguer" he leaps to near the very top of the Sox prospect pile. Really comes down to how you feel about the probability without QUITE as sexy a ceiling as other players.
  19. That seems fair. Right now - he is all athlete ... but probably starts you in the 18-24 range until his on-field resume starts to build up
  20. Zanetello would have really benefited by Lowell still being around ... le sigh
  21. Nazzan Zanetello #33 on Law's Top 100 he sez McDaniel sez (his #64)
  22. Kyle Teel, C, Virginia Law's scouting report https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/mlb-draft-2023/GepZBt2vwRFx/ ... Law's #6 Kiley McDaniel, ESPN ... McDaniel's #7
  23. And if you look at the actual Barnes 2022 season - he was outstanding, then his shoulder got hurt and then sad trombone
  24. I guess - but the team squeezed every drop from its pitching in 2021 ... and honestly he has done a good job with the pitching staff this season, despite having to deal with Corey Kluber's rotting corpse. (now the BBRef and Fangraphs measurements have much different opinions on the pitching) ... I really give much more credit to the truly wretched defense the team has put together.
