  1. I agree ... you cannot give up your top prospects for 1 player ... one injury can end a career.
  2. This year has to play out but Drew is growing on me. He is a very solid defensively and he is starting to swing a nice bat. If this team Win's it all this year and they can do it I would want to bring Drew back. I think you have to go with Bogaerts at 3rd. Deal Middlebrooks for some Pitching Prospects. I like Morales at 1B but another option will be James Loney. (for a lot less money) I am not a fan of signing Choo at 4/15m when Carp, Nava, Victorino, Gomes are getting the job done. Its going to take 110m to get Jacoby for 6 years but I am all for it.
  3. You made a valid point ... It would be nice to know what KC wanted from Boston. I only say this because I think Meyers is the real deal however there is a lot of baseball to be played to know for sure. Lester was once considered to be the real deal as well. There was a time when Tiger breaking Jack's record for Major wins was all but certain and now ... maybe not going to happen.
  4. If Sox re-up Ellsbury they have options ... JBJ can take over center in 2016 and move Ellsbury to left. I really do not think we have seen Ellsbury's best power numbers yet. Move him down to the 3 spot 3 years from now and he will explode.
  5. Even 6 / 110m should be fine
  6. For all the Ellsbury doubters out there. Lou Brock in 1974 at age 35 had his most productive season for Stolen Bases at 118. His Second best was 74 in 1966 at the age of 27. In 1975 & 1976 at the age of 36 & 37 respectively Brock stole 56 bases. Brock had some huge numbers but his CS numbers were fairly high compared to Ellsbury. Brock's biggest season for HR's was 21 at the age of 27. He only hit 3 with his 118 SB's in 1974. As a Sox fan I am not overly concerned about Ellsbury slowing down over the next 5 seasons. Ellsbury is also a young 30 as he has a late birthday of September 11. So maybe a 6-7 year contract for Ells is not unrealistic maybe at 18m per. Ellsbury does not have to repeat his 2011 season to justify a long term contract ... he can produce 80% of his 2011 numbers and he will not be a disappointment.
  7. I thought for sure that after 2 straight loses to KC that I would go to MLB transactions this morning and see that Bogaerts has been optioned and Synder sent down. No such luck. Is it possible that the Sox loose a year of control over Bogaerts if they bring him up now. Even if so, bring him up. Get him ready for the post season.
  8. I think you hit it on the head ... The Sox Front Office is in a trance. Sox should have had WM or XB replacing Snyder for the KC Series. Losing 2 straight to KC is unacceptable.
  9. Holt was 0-3 last night and batting .212. How much longer do we have to play with only 8 players in the line-up?
  10. There are many baseball fans and I am one of them that believe that the MVP award should go to the outstanding everyday player. The Cy Young award to the best pitcher. Ellsbury season in 2011 from the lead-off position has to be one of the best ever. If he had won the MVP ... and I said 'If' ... would we be having this discussion? Seems like we have one of the premier players in baseball on our team but without the love of some Sox fans. I have heard people say that 30 is the new 40 when it comes to HR's ... I can see Ellsbury averaging 4-5 HR's per month playing left field at age 35. He obviously has fast twitch muscles, he is intelligent, I think it is a no-brainer for the Sox to resign him and have him retire wearing a Sox uniform. This whole notion that he will not have any speed 5 years from now is ludicrous. After all he hasn't been seen hanging out with Gronk and he obviously takes very good care of himself. Remember he was hit by a truck (Beltre). Cut the guy some slack.
  11. Thanks for the information
  12. So what happens when a team with a top ten pick in the draft were to sign Ellsbury ... how is Boston Compensated?
  13. I would imagine that Ellsbury can produce 30 HR's at age 35.
  14. Sox need to give what every intelligent Sox fan or reporter want ... Middlebrooks or Bogaerts now. I prefer Bogaerts and if he has a hard time np just exchange him for Middlebrooks.
  15. What do BJ Upton, Carl Crawford and Julio Lugo have in common? Ans. They all played for Tampa Bay and signed FA contracts for sick money. Each of these players was over paid by 40% and they all stunk it up big time for their new team.
  16. I would deal Barnes and Owens and Middlebrooks for Bumgarner and a pitching prospect.
  17. Bogaerts should be untouchable right about now. King Felix will not leave Seattle ... rumors are that he is a vampire and needs to play where the sun does not shine.
  18. I like the way your think Depree ... probably because I place a premium on Ellsbury.
  19. I like the way your think Depree ... probably because I place a premium on Ellsbury.
  20. Does bringing up Bogaerts before September affect in anyway the number of years that the Sox will control him? Do the Sox loose a year of control if they bring him up now? I don't know.
  21. Maybe you can argue that Ellsbury should only be paid 18m per, what difference does the extra 2m mean anyway. We are going to be paying Pedroia 14m when he is 38.
  22. But you do not mind paying Pedroia 14+ M when he is 36, 37, & 38? Ellsbury was underpaid in 2011 by a lot.
  23. No doubt that AL MVP will be going to either Trout or Cabrera. After that Ellsbury is right in the mix. I do not think that many Sox fans appreciate what a great lead off hitter Ellsbury is. Not many bat 300 or have as good OBP. He has stolen 40 bases and caught only 3 times. What if he was batting 3rd with Papi hitting behind him. Sign Ellsbury and trade JBJ for pitching.
  24. You talk about durability but people forget that he was run over by a truck (Beltre). I think when he slows down his power numbers will increase. I would take a chance for 5 years. He is a good teammate, does not get in trouble off the field, sells lots of jerseys, we spent 100m on Dice K for 5 years. Ben offers the contract and let Ellsbury turn it down ... do it now and make the fan base happy.
