    Ben Cherington has been with Boston since 1999. Obviously ownership would not have named him GM unless they thought highly of him. Cherington was involved with the two championships 2004 & 2007. Unloading the rich contracts of Crawford, Beckett with an under-performing AGON has put Boston in an enviable position freeing up lots of money to work with and blessed with a fairly good farm system. If he manages to sign Jose Daniel Abreu to a long term contract the Sox will be looking good for many years to come.

    Thank you Navafan29 ... makes perfect sense to me. Of course VA Sox Fan's latest big news that he started a thread on is Remy's son being arrested. But that's ok ... I participated before I found out what a dick he is.

    Yeah ... the Newbie started another good thread. Anyway ... you need newbies to join to keep these threads alive ... If Ellsbury's contract is not worth discussing then this thread is worthless anyway. If "Should the Sox re-sign Ellsbury" without terms is a good thread then I am missing something. Am I surprised that 80% say NO again without any terms is very telling to me so I wanted to know what people think he is worth ... the only way to do so is with another poll. I have been coming on the thread and I have not seen many new threads but the ones that are on here I try to support without being critical ... this is baseball people ... get a grip and losing up a little.

    I do not understand the term cluttering with a thread. If you do not want to read a thread or reply to a thread you do not have to ... do you? Every thread I have started has had replies. This is new to me.

    The majority of Sox Fans on this site are against resigning Ellsbury but the question itself is flawed because no one knows what the asking price is for his services nor the length of the contract. I am curious what you think a player like Ellsbury is worth over a Six Year contract. Even this argument is flawed as he might be worth more to different teams based on need. I have a feeling that having Jackie Bradley Jr. in the wings is a big reason why some are against given Ellsbury a mega contract.

    I think that the scout got it wrong on Marrero .... If he were available about 5 rounds later then maybe take a shot with him. Could have been the same scout that got it right many times before. Whoever decided to draft Pedroia probably had some explaining to do at the time.

    Ate age 36 he will be in the 7th year of his contract ... hypothetically that is ... maybe we will get caught stealing second .... he has been caught 4 times this year as well ... Are you really worried about how many bases Ellsbury will steal as a 36 year old ... come on man ... Pedroia is signed through age 38 ... how many bases will he be stealing at age 38 and how much ground will he cover playing second.

    Dempster & Peavy ... the Sox are spending a lot of money on average Joe's. I think it is a good methodology to stockpile pitching prospects with your top draft picks. Make's you scratch your head over the Deven Marrero pick.
