Iggy is batting about 200 for the past 30 games .... love his glove but in the end there is no future for him. Give Peavy a chance as he just may rise to the occasion .... as you know the Sox are one of the best 6 teams in MLB ... they have a chance to win it all.

Is Peralta's glove that bad. He his hitting 300 with 10 HR's and a .990 fielding with 4 errors.

I think that Iggy will be great in Detroit. You have to love his glove and his hustle. This is a great deal for Boston if it is true. Go Sox

Yeah, most scouting reports use ceiling when they discuss a players prospects. They usually do not say that this guy has the potential to be a 5th starting or long relief. If you do come up with your scouting report projecting any of the players you mention to be a 1 or 2 without a doubt they are talking ceiling not floor.

I am seeing Cecchini making a strong play for 3B by 2015. Bogaerts at Short, Pedroia and then Loney at 1st.

I have to give big props to Lackey for the season that he is having. Who would have thought it. However, while watching games on NESN and always having the Amica Pitch Zone it is easy to see that umpires are at times calling a lot of good pitches - balls. The NESN camera's always go to Lester and Lackey when an umpire misses a call in the hitters favor. They both get flustered with painful looks on their faces. It obviously bothers them and throws them off their game. Maybe they can go half's of a therapy session. When I see ace pitchers from other teams in the same situation you can not tell anything from their reaction after the suspect call. Lackey and Lester need to grow up and accept that there will be so many missed calls working against them each game and keep their focus on the next pitch. Has anyone else noticed this?

Are you telling me that the Sox will not fork over 5/75 for Ellsbury. Compare Ellsbury's numbers to other lead off hitters in MLB and you will find that he is a very valuable player ... especially if he plays for a team with a pitcher's ballpark. SB's do not seem like a big deal in a hitter's park but in a pitchers park with lot's of one rruns games they are.

Might be a good time to roll the dice and trade Iggy for pitching. I think that Iggy will become a fine major league player but I do not see him as a game changer. Bogaerts at Short, Middlebrooks back at third and pick up Loney in the off season to play first.

Might be a good time to deal Middlebrooks as some clubs might believe in his upside. I think the Sox can target Loney next in free agency this off season. Napoli has nice power but his k's are getting old. 2 more k's last night. Xander has a future on the left side of the infield.

I could not agree more. However I remember a time when Hanley Ramirez was on the Sox untouchable list. When you get a stud in your minor league system you should do everything possible to keep him. Look what KC did their off season deal of Meyers for Shields ... they have to be crying big time over that trade. In fact the Sox might also be kicking themselves for other reasons as it was rumored that they had the opportunity to deal Lester for Meyers ...

No doubt that Boras is a PITA but he is still obligated to show any offer to Ellsbury.

The thing is when you have a player under contract only the team that has the contract is allowed to contact the player and discuss an extension and visa vera. Sox contacted Pedroia and they made a deal ... The Sox are able to contact Ellsbury while other teams cannot. Maybe if the Sox showed him some love they could get a deal done before he enters the sweepstakes. The Sox are the only team that can offer Ellsbury a bird in the had at this time. Miami did this with Hanley Rameriz, Tampa did this with Longoria, etc.

Well ... arguing with you about management doing whatever they have to do to sign Ellsbury is going nowhere. One of us will be right and one wrong .... or maybe somewhere in between. Have a good night!

You know nothing .... really very sad. We all know that Pedroia wants to retire with a Sox Uni on. When a player loves a city, the team, management etc. then he is often willing to take less money ... this is not every professional athlete but they are out there and Pedroia is one of them. So knowing that the Sox can count on Pedroia for as long as he can play at a high level the focus going forward should be Ellsbury. What you read in the papers is not fact. Management can approach Ellsbury whenever they wish to as long as he in under contract. I was happy when the Sox were able to dump the blotted contracts of Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez but spending some cash on a in demand commodity like Ellsbury would be a good investment. 5 years. Pedroia might be more durable than Ellsbury but Pedey did not have Beltre steamroller him. Besides this is not about Pedroia or Ellsbury ... I want both.

Thank you! You can disagree with me. I say giving Pedroia any more than 4-5 years is a mistake. No one knows with certainty who is right. I was under the impression that this site was a place for Sox fans to share opinions about everything Red Sox. The point is that I feel that he would have signed a 4-5 year extension. For some strange reason everyone one here is bent out of shape like it makes a difference in their lives.
