  1. Sawxheads didn't end; most of us post in both locations. FYI. You should check it out..you seem curious.
  2. I considered the source. Intelligent posts are not your forte sometimes. You do not think before you post occasionally. Example: your recent statements that implied that it was not hurting the team not to have a manager two months after ours resigned. That defies common sense.
  3. I am not going to ignore you VA. Keep posting what you want to post. I got nothing personal against you. You do not like what I write. Fair enough. I don't care for the tone of your missives much either. Too vanilla for me. I will try to keep the criticism down a bit however.
  4. Absolutely the most intelligent post I have ever read from you.
  5. Good choice for manager Fred, but I still think we are two to three years from undoing the mess Epstein left the franchise in. We still have Matsusaka and Lackey under contract, and Crawford is ours for many years, though I am hopeful that he can turn things around. Our farm system is in shambles, without a bona fide SP prospect like the Yankees and Rays have. Its going to take time.
  6. Francona couldn't wash Torre's shoes. How many WS and ALC did Torre win with the Yankees? Hint: its TWICE as many as Francona won with the Red Sox.
  7. No, you see it as FULL ALL THE TIME. Your kind agrees with the team regardless of whether or not you think what they did was right. The Red Sox did it; it must be good. That pretty much defines a "Bonnethead". Look, you are entitled to behave like that if you want; go for it. But you will catch grief here from those of us who call you on your irrational exuberance.
  8. Francona was one of the most over-rated managers in history. He simply did what Epstein told him to do and won 2 WS with players provided to him by someone else, including, in 2004, players mostly from a different GM. He repeatedly made the same mistakes over and over again during games, proving himself to be an incompetent in-game tactician. Although he admittedly managed well during the postseason games, every year his stubborn errors cost his team losses in the double digits. In the end, his players refused to put out for him and refused to accept his authority because, in fact, he had none. He was too busy shielding the misfits on the team from the media to gain control of the clubhouse. The Cardinals saw this and refused to hire him. Had he been as good as some people think he would have been a shoe-in for that job. Guess what: he isn't. I wish him well, but I am very glad that he is gone.
  9. The ONLY reason you welcome him (after being against his being hired, incidentally) is that you think that the Red Sox can do no wrong. Keep waving those pompoms and wearing that pink bonnet. The team needs suckers like you.
  10. This hiring will stick in your gullet all year, won't it. Its the right move, the move that needed to be made. In about three years he will be fired, but he will have done the job he was hired to do. Go Bobby V!
  11. Fred, we have been posting this for many many years. Finally we are vindicated. I have some hope that LL has learned his lesson, that a gofer type of manager is as useless as an appendix. That is how Francona will be remembered: Epstein's gofer. Guess the Cards realized that when he was stoned at his interview there.
  12. Why on earth would you think his ability as an announcer somehow correlates with his ability as a manager? Just more whining......
  13. Yup. I wouldn't put it past them to pick Lamont. He is a perfect go-fer if they wish to stay in the same pattern they have been in during the Epstein-Francona regime. You must have inside information since no one else here KNOWS who it will be..go ahead. Place your guess.
  14. Karl Ravech. Isn't he the tight end the Patriots signed in the 70s to make everyone forget about Coleman Zeno?
  15. You are probably right, but my guess is that he would have followed the money. Had the Sox made a great offer that beat the Phillies' offer before it was presented he would still be here. Not saying that was the right thing to do. Can't really say I blame Paps either. After all, $50M barely covers living expenses, right?
  16. Who are they going to pick?
  17. True, the never said WHICH Tuesday he would be named......
  18. About a week ago.
  19. I live in California and have been a Red Sox fan since the late 1950s. Glad to help if you like.
  20. I think that at this point the damage has already been done. It was VERY poorly handled. The cost of this bungling has yet to be determined. I think Papelbon considered this when he left; Ortiz mentioned it too at the end of the year (he said something like "I am not sure I want to keep playing with all this drama around"). A selection of Lamont over Valentine would do further damage IMO in that players will look at this and see that the organization has learned nothing and that, most likely, it will continue to be a nonfactor in October.
  21. Sometimes people make the mistake of interpreting opinions as intended facts; and sometimes people pass off opinions as facts. As regards this situation, its a FACT that we do not yet have a manager named; and its a FACT that the team appears dysfunctional and disorganzed, at least to many people. I also think its a FACT that players would prefer to play for a team that appears professional and are winners than the alternative. The reasons for the delay are all opinion, obviously. Its hard to imagine why someone would interpret those opinions as intended facts. How could they be facts? None of us work for the Red Sox, as far as I know.
  22. ALL of us want the team to do well (well, almost all of us). This situation does not aid that goal at all. Perception IS important. Who wants to be a member of a team that appears to be in disarray like this? All other things being equal, I would chose to be on a different MORE PROFESSIONAL appearing team, one that seems to have its act together. You are right: none of us knows what is going on behind the scenes. Therefore, we are limited to offering opinions based on the facts we do know-one of which is that they have not yet named a manager in two months (the Cardinals took what-12 days?). The Red Sox do not need this right now. Its a mistake....in my opinion, of course.
