    Its not really that difficult. If the FO were smart, which they are not, they could easily fabricate a reason Bard is "injured". This happens all the time and its never investigated. Its clearly the right thing to do.

    I agree SFF...thats the logical thing to do. But its not going to happen because only Dojji and the FO still believe that Bard should be given more time. Our FO is incompetent and stubborn. Eventually their hand will be forced, but "we" are expecting that Bard is out their for his usual turn in the rotation on Saturday.

    Who is "we"? I am fully expecting Bard to continue to be in the rotation for a long time. Thats the way our FO operates. Bard is going nowhere any time soon.

    Since then, however, it has stabilized, entering Bard's latest start with the third-best starters' ERA in the American League (3.99), while going 13-6 and totaling the second-most innings in the AL (140) as a group. This is really the most important consideration. Obviously our SP sucked for the first 30 games or so. But it has come around. The key is for the SP to keep improving and be consistently good from here on out, not what they did before, because even though they were horrible early on, we are still in the race. Our competition failed to bury us when they had the opportunity to do it.

    In 2011 he played 112 games at 3B. Thats a lot of time there when you are overweight and out of shape.

    Not directly, but its pretty clear that 3B is a more demanding position to play compared to first base. Its not the whole story-simply getting older is part of it too. However, I do think it has played a role and will continue to play a role in his injury proclivity.

    Oh, I forgot. The fact that he was also injured playing first base rules out any connection between the move to third base being connected to his more recent injuries. My bad.

    I have a feeling that DiceK "isn't ready ;)" because there isn't a spot for him in the rotation. The abject stupidity of our FO fully intends for the Bard debacle to continue, and they would not insert Matsusaka for any of the other SP. I wonder how much longer it would take DiceK to get ready if one of our SP got injured. This is BS. Bard needs a DL stint. Everyone knows it.

    Playing third base is much tougher on the body than playing first base. With Youk's body type its even more demanding. While the switch isn't totally responsible for his physical breakdown, it has certainly played a role.

    Why would you want to mess with a very successful situation in the pen right now? Its clear to everyone but Dojji and our FO that the Bard experiment is a failure and must end immediately. However, today there are no reports of him being pulled from the rotation, and I don't think there will be such reports. I am expecting further documentation of the abject stupidity of our FO when Bard starts again on Saturday. Its really what I have been saying here all along: our FO has no clue how to run this club. No, I don't either, but thats not my job, its theirs. And they are failing. They have failed two years in a row and this season teters on the brink of yet another failure while the owners fiddle on their yachts.

    You are absolutely right. I expect the trade to be announced this week.

    I agree. I am not concerned about our position relative to the other ALE teams. I am concerned, however, about our pitching, especially our starting pitching. The pen seems to have found its way. Lester and Bard clearly have not, and while Buchholz has a few good starts under his belt, I am not convinced that he is cured yet. No SP=no playoffs. You can take that to the bank.

    So would you say that the Orioles are a 1st place team?? Nope. Just checked the standings. They are a second place team. The Rays are a first place team, and we are a last place team, until we prove otherwise.

    They are the exact same in my book. At the end of the season the team in last place deserves to finish in last place no matter how much talent that team has. Same is true on June 3. Guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

    Part of it is, IMO, a lack of emphasis in obtaining and retaining top flight pitching in terms of where the dollars are going. Another part of it is the ongoing inability to even recognize what a top flight pitcher looks like. One of my main complaints about Epstein is that he is a horrible judge of talent, especially ML pitching talent. He did better with minor league guys and position players, but his track record on obtaining high quality pitching is abyssmal.

    I have the utmost faith in the Yankees to supercede the idiocy of our FO. The Rays, not so much. They are very competent there.

    Well, we ARE a last place team-right now. Look at the standings. We are exactly as good as our record says we are. But we are improving. If we continue to PITCH well we will compete for a playoff spot. When our injured guys make it back we should really have an offensive juggernaut.

    No way we should tamper with Aceves' fine performance as closer. One potentially ruined pitcher is enough.

    Not quite. We can decide what WE think ought to be done. The upcoming decision by the FO will serve for me, at least, as a barometer of just how stubborn and stupid they are. Keep Bard in the rotation and they win the Clay Buchholz Moron of the Year Award. DL him in preparation for a return to the pen and its a step in the right direction. I hope its not too late. This decision should not have taken this long.

    Maybe we could somehow stretch Padilla out a bit so he could assume a SP role at the end of the season. Bard is a failure and possibly facing the beginning of the end of his career. We could send Padilla down and bring up Melancon to see if that will work out. Alternatively, make a trade to get Garza to replace Bard or Doubront, when he reaches his innings limit.
