  1. Probably best not to try to steal off this guy. We don't have anyone in our current lineup fast enough.
  2. Triple to the second batter he faces tonite. Lester will be making more excuses after this game too.
  3. DiceK is why God made Desperate Housewives reruns.
  4. Its no lock that DiceK can cut it, even though he only has to be a functional #5 SP and keep his ERA in the 4.5 range. If he fails, and probably even if he doesn't fail, we ought to try to package a deal to get Garza as our #5 SP-or some other SP with talent.
  5. DiceK or someone else will be up to take a start. Therefore, someone else will have to be sent down, probably a position player because McDime replaced Bard.
  6. Hallelujah! Maybe there is a glimmer of hope for this FO after all. They did the right thing, although it took them too long to do it, as usual. This move was obvious to everyone here except Dojji who apparently felt that Bard deserved more time. The only problem is that he will remain a starter, and he is not starter material. He should have been sent down to re-learn how to be a relief pitcher. So the FO got it half right and acted too late. Still..its as much as you can expect from folks like Cherington.
  7. Mortensen and Tazawa are also at Pawtucket. Between them they have surrendered one run in 15.2 innings in the majors this year. We do not need three LHRP, and Morales, while semifunctional still (and as such could fetch a decent return in a trade), is the worst of the three.
  8. Bard will be back off the DL by the beginning of July. At that point someone has to get released. I am not sure who that should be. Morales. Thats easy.
  9. Hey Oregon: don't take Username too seriously. He admits that he likes to stir the pot here. Don't fall for it. Keep it level. User is OK, he's just a born agitator-the only one on this board.
  10. Daisuke has always been up and down as a starter, though. He was certainly on a role before he got hurt, but let's not pretend he's something other than what he is: a pitcher who doesn't attack the strike zone enough, is inefficient, but has excellent stuff and works out of a lot of the jams he creates. On the other board I post on one of the guys who is really into baseball statistics made the arguement that DiceK is actually more effective when he does not attack the strike zone. Seems that when he tries to do that he throws too many pitches down Main St, but when he is nibbling more at the corners he generally misses the heart of the plate. Sure, his pitch counts are high, and he walks more batters that way, but his ERA is actually lower when he nibbles. I cannot recall all the data or much more about how this was proven as it was a few years ago.
  11. Its not really that difficult. If the FO were smart, which they are not, they could easily fabricate a reason Bard is "injured". This happens all the time and its never investigated. Its clearly the right thing to do.
  12. I agree SFF...thats the logical thing to do. But its not going to happen because only Dojji and the FO still believe that Bard should be given more time. Our FO is incompetent and stubborn. Eventually their hand will be forced, but "we" are expecting that Bard is out their for his usual turn in the rotation on Saturday.
  13. Who is "we"? I am fully expecting Bard to continue to be in the rotation for a long time. Thats the way our FO operates. Bard is going nowhere any time soon.
  14. Since then, however, it has stabilized, entering Bard's latest start with the third-best starters' ERA in the American League (3.99), while going 13-6 and totaling the second-most innings in the AL (140) as a group. This is really the most important consideration. Obviously our SP sucked for the first 30 games or so. But it has come around. The key is for the SP to keep improving and be consistently good from here on out, not what they did before, because even though they were horrible early on, we are still in the race. Our competition failed to bury us when they had the opportunity to do it.
  15. In 2011 he played 112 games at 3B. Thats a lot of time there when you are overweight and out of shape.
  16. Not directly, but its pretty clear that 3B is a more demanding position to play compared to first base. Its not the whole story-simply getting older is part of it too. However, I do think it has played a role and will continue to play a role in his injury proclivity.
  17. Oh, I forgot. The fact that he was also injured playing first base rules out any connection between the move to third base being connected to his more recent injuries. My bad.
  18. Did he play 3B in 2010?
  19. I have a feeling that DiceK "isn't ready ;)" because there isn't a spot for him in the rotation. The abject stupidity of our FO fully intends for the Bard debacle to continue, and they would not insert Matsusaka for any of the other SP. I wonder how much longer it would take DiceK to get ready if one of our SP got injured. This is BS. Bard needs a DL stint. Everyone knows it.
  20. Playing third base is much tougher on the body than playing first base. With Youk's body type its even more demanding. While the switch isn't totally responsible for his physical breakdown, it has certainly played a role.
