Apparently the Yankees are having some "luck" coming their way too: NEW YORK -- Yankees ace CC Sabathia is heading to the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left leg. With all the extra body weight CC carries around this could take some time to heal. TOOOOOOOOOO BAD!

Its very very early to get too excited about his prospects of becoming a dominant SP-way too early. Give him half a year of doing it minimum. Meanwhile, I'll take what I can get from him. Every outing is not going to be dominant.

Thats possible. I remember seeing one patient with an esophageal ulcer who "dry swallowed" her tetracycline, which she was taking for acne. This was a mistake, to say the least. One of the pills failed to make it into the stomach from the esophagus, instead, lodging there and eating away at her membranes. I am not sure if Ibuprofen can cause similar problems, but it wouldn't surprise me. All those NSAIDs are not quite as harmless as they were first thought to be when they came out. GI bleeding is not an uncommon side effect. In any event, he should recover and eventually make it back. This is not career threatening, fortunately. -
Had the FO been quicker on the trigger to get him out of the starting rotation he might have been more salvageable. The longer you practice bad habits and the more confidence you lose the harder it is for you to get back into proper form. Yes, most of this is Bard's fault. But I think that some of the blame has to be shared by the FO.

He has been evaluated and observed at Mass General Hospital. Clay is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery." Buchholz was put on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. -
Most significant is the degree that the games hinge more and more on starting pitching as the season grinds on....to the point where even powerhouse offenses simply get controlled by the better pitchers in baseball....you see it time and time again, year in and year out. We have had our SP for the bulk of the season. They have not suffered catastrophic season ending injuries to the mainstays of the rotation. We do know what they have though and like it or not....it just ain't enough. Jung Truer words were never written.

Not as a rental, no. I would want the pitcher we get to be on our team for at least three years (or two and a half, actually). No handing away our top prospects for rentals.

Its going to come down to Beckett, Lester, and Buchholz. If they pitch well we could make a run at the Yankees. If not, we might compete for the WC.

The Rays have essentially lost too. Now down 8-2 in the ninth. We will be one behind the Rays and two behind the Orioles and Angels for the WC top spot.

Not at all. You were entirely correct in your post. All the pitchers move down one inning if Bailey is around. My point was that Aceves has been a very serviceable closer, probably just as good as Bailey would have been. Of course, if he is closing, he isn't available to pitch when he usually pitches.

Bailey's loss was really the only significant injury to a pitcher we have had all year. The pitching is, essentially, the staff we had hoped to field-with a few stints on the DL. They never expected DiceK back until mid June anyway, and Lackey was known to be out all year too. I don't think we have had a more serious problem with injuries to pitchers than other clubs. Hell, the Yankees lost Pineda AND Mariano.

Its been improving. Just not relative to the rest of the AL. We have been #12 or 13 all year.

This is a very long discussion. Not really into looking up all the numbers right now. I admit the injuries hurt, but I also think that the major problem is not injuries, its the fact that our pitching is #12 in the AL. How many more games we would have won with Ellsbury and Crawford healthy all year is guesswork.
