It is a matter of math, I agree. How many more runs per game do you think that the return of Ellsbury and Crawford are going to produce? Don't forget that one of them is going to replace Nava, who has exceled. Do you think that either Ellsbury or Crawford will do better than .313/.902? And once both of them are playing again Ross and Sweeney will likely platoon in RF, so we lose some of Ross's production when Sweeney plays (.278/.915 vs Sweeney's .292/.733) Don't think that Sweeney will just sit on the bench, nor will whoever our 5th OF. There may be more runs scored; maybe not. I suspect we will get a few more, sure, but not many. On the other hand we are still stuck with mediocrity with Beckett, Lester, Buchholtz and less than mediocrity with DiceK and Doubront. An ace pitcher would make a real difference in our chances, but not Ellsbury and Crawford.
