  1. Totally correct. They can see the weather map as well as we can, probably better. Why make the fans wait over two hours before calling it-especially since the Yankees already lost
  2. I have no idea what you are talking about. I mean sometimes the forecasters out here are off by as much as three degrees.
  3. San Francisco is on the ocean too and the forecasts there are pretty accurate.
  4. OB said last night that Eck would be back in a game or two.
  5. We should be focused on the fact that we cannot hit the baseball with any regularity-last I checked, 9th in the league in OPS. Thats our weakness-offense. Not sure who is available, but without either an additional bat or an improvement in the performance of the current players I do not see us as being better than either the Yankees or the Royals.
  6. Might have won yesterday's game if Bogaerts was a competent SS too. He has been less than stellar defensively this year (dWAR at -.5) and on the basepaths, he has been a disaster. If he didn't make the error yesterday who knows....maybe Barnes doesn't melt down.
  7. Yes, those are hard to measure. What is not so hard to measure is OPS, WAR etc. We have a problem offensively, and unless a new infusion of talent at 3B, our major problem, is found, we will need to address it in other ways-and adding Avila would be a very good way to deal with it. Our catchers are both bottom third in most offensive categories. I would trade their unmeasurable defensive stats for more offense in a heartbeat.
  8. And getting those factors put together at the right time...ie getting hot during the playoffs.
  9. As I recall, his K to BB ratio was so high that his fall from grace could have been predicted by.....well.....a cave man.
  10. It is possible, but unlikely because MLB no doubt has protected its material with copyright software. If you want to try it, here is an article on how to proceed. Its not going to be easy. https://www.lifewire.com/recording-from-tivo-or-cable-satellite-dvr-1846583
  11. Good call Moon :-). Pom pitched very well.
  12. That is because teams do not go for it on fourth down and 20 very often. Generally, its fourth and very short. If you include ALL situations and forced teams to go for it on fourth down you would lose more games, not win more.
  13. That I can buy....this was a matter to be discussed in the clubhouse, privately.
  14. You're right; its never happened before, and it won't happen again. What you are writing is factually incorrect. The batter doesn't have to be killed to make beanings dangerous, and this one was intentional to a degree. But before you spout off again, read this article: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1304213-mlbs-worst-hit-by-pitch-moments-ever As I wrote elsewhere, accidents happen. Pitches do get away from guys. The difference between this situation and all the others is that Barnes was throwing at Machado-not at his head-but at him nonetheless. I have no problem with him doing that, but he has to miss LOW, not high. He should have gotten at least 10 games for his mistake. There should be ZERO tolerance for that crap, and the penalties should be heavy, not just four games. If it were up to you I suppose we could just wait until the next guy gets maimed or killed in that situation. A clear message should be sent to MLB pitchers: you miss high there, and you pay the price.
  15. I don't blame Pedroia. Before that pitch was made Pedey said he wasn't holding anything against Machado...."thats baseball" I believe is what he said. Then his team mate endangered the career and the life of another player. Just as I would not support a friend who was involved in a near accident because he elected to drive drunk, Pedroia is appropriately not supporting Barnes for what he did. That is real leadership, regardless of his comments from another time.
  16. You can google it as well as I can. Tony C comes to mind. I can understand a player ACCIDENTALLY getting hit in the head, but not as a result of a pitcher intentionally throwing at him and missing location. You just cannot do that. Its like drunk driving. Its asking for trouble.
  17. As I wrote many times, I think that he was either told to throw at Machado or at the very least he was given the green light by Farrell-just not at his head. He missed. You cannot miss there. Ever. Or you should pay very dearly. What would have happened if it turned out differently, if he actually hit Machado and ended his career? Is four games enough now?
  18. I don't think its relevant, but I am quite sure Farrell had something to do with throwing at Machado. Just not at his head. Barnes made a mistake you cannot make. Throw it in the dirt behind him if you have to. That would have gotten the message across much more effectively.
  19. I don't think he was throwing at his head either. I think he made a mistake. But this is the kind of mistake that you should pay dearly for....like drunk driving, spousal abuse etc. There is the potential for great bodily harm. Fortunately Machado escaped without being hit at all, but it could have been much worse. Barnes is not paying heavily enough for what he did.
  20. The league can't do it. But the Red Sox management can impose further penalties if they have the guts to do so. Bottom line is this: you do not throw at a guys head. If you miss location IMO you should pay dearly for your mistake. Four game is not "dearly"....most of those games Barnes would not even have appeared more than likely. So its what-two games of participation he is missing?
  21. Regardless of the reason Barnes threw a beanball behind Machado's head he deserves more than four games for it. I suspect he meant to throw it behind his tochas but lost control of it somehow. He should pay dearly for that mistake. In real life you pay for your mistakes. The rule should be "nothing over the belt" when you are seeking retribution. A 95 mph fastball to the head, even with a helmet on, not only threatens a player's career but his life as well. Barnes is getting off easy IMO.
  22. Barnes was suspended by the league for 4 games. If the Sox management wanted to make this right they would suspend him without pay for another six games. This is more important than winning a baseball game.
  23. Well you have to AT LEAST make sure that if you miss the guy, you miss low. Bounce it in the dirt or something. I think every ML pitcher has enough control to miss low.
  24. Matt Barnes just got suspended for four games for throwing BEHIND the head of Manny Machado. What a jackass, if it was intentional. I am not buying his "it just got away from me" excuse. Should have been at least 10 games. You NEVER do that. https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2017/04/24/red-sox-pitcher-matt-barnes-suspended-4-games-for-buzzing-orioles-manny-machado
  25. Its a very informative article, wouldn't you say? The article is factual rather than opinion.
