  1. I think he is no better than the other umps I have seen. They all miss calls. Someone here commented that he hasn't missed any calls, but he has missed a bunch for both pitchers. Average performance IMO.
  2. Missed pitch 1 to Judge too....that was a strike.
  3. Nice hitting by Hanley.....JD will come through here.
  4. Missed that strike, pitch 4..it was a strike.
  5. The ump has missed several strikes thrown by Sale....I don't think he as been especially great. Small zone.
  6. I don't ever remember the Yankees swinging at so many high fastballs.....
  7. Take down the date....JBJ made contact.
  8. He put a good swing on it....contrast that with Bradley who is missing by a foot and has no idea where the strike zone is. JD had the third best OPS for an OF with at least 200 PAs in all of baseball last year, ahead of Stanton, behind Trout and Judge. He will come around.
  9. Benintendi owns Severino....even Hanley is getting into the act. Time for JD to contribute.
  10. Thats because Bradley consistently sucks. The other two guys at least sometimes contribute with the bat. Bradley is as close to an automatic out as there is.
  11. Bradley sucks...no idea of the strike zone. Automatic out.
  12. Great. Guess who is up.....next inning please.
  13. Gotta bring in Beninendi here.....why not send Hanley?
  14. I just don't know what to say about a post like that.
  15. There will come a point, perhaps, if Bradley cannot snap out of where he is at, when a replacement will be needed. That time is not now. It might be in June or so. For now, he plays, and we can all cringe when his turn to bat comes up. Yes...imagine how good we could be with a CF who can actually hit the baseball AND play an acceptable CF. Love to see it.
  16. Truth is, we may get neither. If Kimbrel is asking for a ridiculous amount of money I would let Hanley go (I would let him go in nearly any case) and also not sign Kimbrel if it means grossly overpaying him.
  17. If we are not hitting we should be looking to upgrade wherever possible. Its hard to find catchers who can hit. Not so with OF....there are more of them. Now who is available is the question, and at what price. Last year we struggled offensively. I do not want to see that again this year. If Bradley can at least hit .726 he might be worth keeping on a struggling team (offensively). It depends on the context.
  18. Nope. But he would certainly be our worst hitting OF. You need to score runs in this league to win. Preventing runs is great, but you also need to score.
  19. I disagree. Simple as that. You cannot take his offensive production in a vacuum. If we are last in hitting in the AL, for example, we cannot afford JBJ. If we are scoring, for example, one run per game, I don't care if JBJ is saving six. We still lose. We would, in that circumstance, need someone who can PRODUCE runs.
  20. No doubt he will improve on .399. Last year I think he was at .726. I don't think you can take those number in vacuum. If the team already has guys who cannot hit the baseball then we are going to need a CF who can hit better than .726. If the team is already hitting we can afford someone like Bradley who is basically inept with a bat in his hands but defensively is a genius. I am sure that management is going to consider the context in which JBJ is performing rather than his numbers in isolation.
  21. Last year, of the 62 AL OF with at least 200 PAs, Bradley ranked 44th in OPS. On the other hand, he ranked 15th in WAR. I do not value WAR as much as more objective data since WAR relies too much on subjective defensive metrics. Still, its obvious that Bradley is a very good defensive OF. There has to be a floor below which he should be removed from the lineup. So far this year his OPS is .399 with an OPS+ of 15. That is clearly below that floor. I have seen little evidence that he, as you put it, "will get better" so far. Where that floor is is the fodder for debate.
  22. Funny....you could also say that Bradley has been in a "slump" for his last 600 PAs. Or you can say that he isn't a very good offensive player. Never mind: I will say it. The only debate is whether or not his shortcomings with a bat are compensated for by his defensive prowess.
  23. The problem with this idea is that Benintendi is not going to play every game, and if he gets injured or needs a day off, who then plays CF? Betts might be able to do it, but his job is RF. If Bradley continues to look awful (.120/.414) at the plate, they are going to have to address it, eventually.
  24. One guy (I think he is a UFC fighter) said that the banned substance that turned up in his urine was because he ate meat (beef) from Mexico while he was training there. Who knows? At the end of the day the athlete has to be held accountable for positive test results IMO. Otherwise there will be a litany of excuses as to how the test results were positive. There is no other way.
