  1. Time for Kelly to give it a try.
  2. Nice to see that the Red Sox have no monopoly on brain dead baserunning mistakes.
  3. He might....but didn't Chris Sale get pounded by the Astros in game one of the playoffs last year? Does that negate what a fine season he had?
  4. In other words, don't confuse me with the facts? Not all opinions are created equal......it is a FACT that Barnes has been effective this year, regardless of what you may think.
  5. Go ahead and rip Smith for his stupidity and Kelly for his mediocrity, but Barnes has an ERA of 2.30 with an ERA+ of 192- and has pitched very well. Care to take him off your s*** list?
  6. I think he is the kind of guy YOUR team needs. If ERod makes it back we are set for SP. Meanwhile, once you get past Severino, you have Sabathia, who, while pitching well so far, is a disaster waiting to happen. Then you have Tanaka (4.54), Gray, who has been a joke most of the time (5.34), and German-even worse than Gray (5.68). The Yankees are going to need to upgrade by at least one SP, probably two...and the cost will be very high.
  7. While we are on the subject of Blake Swihart, since June 30 he has been playing regularly and not only has he played reasonably well behind the plate but in an admittedly small sample size he is hitting .421/1.003-and he has stolen at least one base. I have been advocating that he get his chance for a long time, not knowing if he would succeed. So far he has.
  8. Overall Moreland has played well. But he is in a prolonged slump. In 64 PAs since June 23 he is at .203/.581. We need him to do better.
  9. True. I was sort of kidding about Ramirez being the main source of the ludicrous baserunning on the team....Benintendi has also made some dumb mistakes out there. Others have contributed to the blunders as well. Its an area of weakness that Cora addressed a while ago. When you are playing .690 baseball its hard to complain too much about performance, but there is always room for improvement, and this is one area that stands out IMHO.
  10. Now that Hanley is gone I think its safe to say that the percentage of boneheaded baserunning plays due to simple brain farts is much closer to zero
  11. No one here "hates" Pomeranz.....but most of us have some serious questions about his ability to compete with the loss of velocity he has exhibited. He isn't likely to get by with two pitches, one of which is a fastball that is in the 88-90 range. IMO he is better suited as a relief pitcher with that arsenal.
  12. Thornburg needs to go back to Pawtucket......useless. We need one more arm in the pen and we will be fine.
  13. Or not....I can't believe Fiers didn't just throw him a fastball up.
  14. Devers Ks again on a ball up
  15. Every team in the history of the game has areas in which they could be better.....no exceptions. But this team is leading the league in runs, is third in ERA (just .04 below the Yankees) and has, if ERod can make it back, probably the second best SP rotation in the league behind the Astros. Sure there are holes; there always are. But this team is set up for a good postseason run if they can stay healthy.
  16. At least he plays great defense, right?
  17. Let me amend that: Devers sucks.
  18. Devers' act is getting very very old.
  19. How about the hole in the pen? We have no viable LH RP. I would love to see us get Britton...I think he is the missing cog. He can be lights out and can spell Kimbrel, who has been pitching too much.
  20. That and the fact that his velocity is down. I am guessing that his injury suffered in ST is worse than we are being told.
  21. I agree with the title of the thread.
  22. Our need for another SP entirely depends on how ERod is doing, and last I heard it wasn't encouraging news from Cora. I would not be depending on Johnson and Velasquez to lead us to an ALE title.
  23. As of right now our SP is third in the league; the Yankees, with an ERA over 4, are in sixth place. Their rotation, aside from Severino, is in shambles. Its not a rotation that will take them far in the playoffs. No doubt they will trade for a decent SP, hopefully at great cost and little reward. Its looking pretty good......its looking very good...so far.
  24. No Jacko comments? Hard to say how long he will be out since we haven't been given much information about what the injury is, only that its "not major". He is young....my guess is that he will be back sooner rather than later.
