  1. Paxton has reverse splits this year. Lefties have done much better against him than righties. Cora said that is why he plans to load the lineup with lefties tonight.
  2. So happy to see that Stanton is failing in NY, or at least not living up to the hype: BA: .244 OPS: .795 OPS+: 112 (166 last year) K%: 35.6 of ABs On the other hand, JD Martinez has exceeded expectations: BA: .317 OPS: 1.039 OPS+: 173 K%: 26.5% While its possible that the huge gap between the two could close, I could not be happier that we got the right guy.
  3. Jacko is wrong. I wouldn't send the Orioles any top prospects, let alone 3-4 of them-not for a two month rental. I would be shocked at the stupidity of any GM who is willing to give up some of the future of his team for a guy that come October will be wearing a different uniform. I would think about giving them Velasquez for Machado....maybe one more mid level guy too...but thats about it.
  4. We aren't entitled to know what Dombrowski is thinking or planning. For all we know he was considering bringing up Devers, who was doing very well in the minor leagues, all along. As I have written, there are no better alternatives to play 3B to Devers right now. All we can do is hope that somehow is *potential* is realized soon, because he certainly isn't performing well right now. As for what the Orioles can get for Machado or Britton, its absurd to think that they will get a haul for either guy unless the player is signed long term before the trade. No GM is going to hand over a top prospect for a two month rental, let alone a starter with *potential*. I would think that the Orioles will try to get something for those two guys rather than let them just walk out the front door, but its likely to be mid level prospects.
  5. Machado will be a two month rental. He is good, but for a two month rental they aren't going to get Devers or anything like a top prospect. Same for Britton.
  6. You are missing the point. I think that players who are not performing are fair game for discussion here. I don't think you can complain that Betts or JD can improve enough to help the team get even better, but guys like Devers, Pomeranz, Nunez etc, they are fair game to write about here.
  7. Isn't Machado a FA after this year? The Orioles are not going to get a haul for him unless he signs something long term. He is just going to be a rental. Velasquez might indeed be part of whats needed to get him if he is what the FO wants (I don't want him).
  8. His current OPS is .698, not .755. His OPS+ is 85-below average. And while his defense is slightly better, he still has a slightly negative WAR for the year. Its hard for me to understand why this is viewed by some here as an acceptable level of performance. Yes, the team is doing well, obviously. And yes, Devers is, right now, our best option at 3B. But there are other members of this team that are responsible for our stellar W-L record and they are covering for the deficiencies in the performance Devers is producing. Until he learns the strike zone I don't see him making huge leaps offensively. Just because he is 21 and plays for the Red Sox does not mean he has *potential*. For my part I will just wait and see on that...lots of guys have *potential* and end up failing.
  9. Just because he is the best available option right now does not mean that his current performance is acceptable. Maybe it will be one day; right now, IMO, its not there yet.
  10. Right. Stay right there until the trade is completed. Don't risk injury.
  11. His OPS is under .700. That is a more telling stat than his 10 HRs. Not impressed by that unless his OPS is reasonable, which it is not. Furthermore, just watching him play, he has no concept of the strike zone. He is like a very bad version of Vlad Guerrero. Maybe he is working his ass off to improve his defense, but this is a results oriented game, and so far the results are not there. Maybe he is a better defensive 3B than Holt...maybe...but at least Holt isn't useless with a bat in his hands. I am not saying he is hopeless, but I am saying that his performance to date has been pretty bad. Pedroia might be back, but not regularly. He is toast.
  12. Back to the thread topic: Devers He has shown me NOTHING. He has no concept of the strike zone and frequently looks totally lost at the plate. Yesterday the blind squirrel found a nut and hit a HR, but for the season he is at .231/.692. Instead of shortening his swing with two strikes he has the same stroke every time, swinging for the downs. A lot of times he swings at balls in the dirt. Defensively he ranks 45th of the 50 AL 3Bmen. Yesterday he booted a sure double play ball. I don't see any improvement there either. His ONLY redeeming feature is his age, but a 21 year old who sucks still sucks. Unfortunately, right now there are no alternatives. I think if Pedroia can somehow make it back I would sit Devers and put Holt at 3B.
  13. Devers still sucks...both offensively and defensively. I see no potential so far. No strike zone recognition and no improvement defensively either.
  14. Nunez was out by 20 feet...WTF was that??
  15. I would not have left Velasquez in this game.....
  16. They are laying in wait for the Yankees
  17. Like no one knew this was coming? This is who he is. He is the Matsusaka of Venezuela.
  18. Should have had more runs that inning....Moreland has regressed.
  19. He did. I remember in preseason that they were talking about him bulking up with a weight training program. Now that he is completely over his concussion issues he is looking pretty good out there.
  20. They are, as of today, second in ERA below Houston-by just .01 RPG
  21. The fifth pitch was right down the middle. Moreland should have swung at that.
