    If we lose the ALE by a game Cora should look back at this game as the reason we are the WC. July 24. Just a dumb dumb decision.

    It depends on how soon ERod comes back-if he comes back. If the medical staff (gag gag) thinks he is lost for the season or close to it we will need another SP. Otherwise we can temporize with Velasquez.

    Hate to agree with Jacko...ever...but Cora should have pulled him after the leadoff walk. And that was a no brainer. Just stupid.

    First of all, your bullpen hasn't changed. Unless I am missing a trade that has been finalized. Second, Tanaka's ERA coming into this game is over 4.50. If thats "pretty good" then hopefully by the end of the year Severino will have been "pretty good" too. And I think its wonderful that Gray has had two good starts. I guess the rest of his horror shows don't count, right? Oh...and in case you haven't checked today's stats, the Yankees rank SEVENTH in SP ERA in the league. If you are happy with that I am too.

    He is headed to the Astros according to most reports. The Yankees badly need probably TWO, not one, SP. Aside from Severino and the Butterball, no one is performing.

    No one is claiming that Swihart has enough ABs to draw any conclusions as yet. What I wrote is that if, hypothetically, he still has an OPS of .750-.800 and hasn't embarrassed himself defensively when Vasquez is ready to come back, has he then earned a job? I would submit that he has....hypothetically. Just because "catchers can't hit" doesn't mean HE can't hit. Maybe he can. Maybe not. I for one am not completely happy with the guys we have and if we can improve offensively at catcher without compromising too much the defensive part of the job, why not do it.

    IF ERod can make it back (big IF) then it would be a waste of our limited resources to sign a SP. Assuming Pomeranz can be a spot starter and Velasquez the same, we don't NEED another SP. Wright might eventually make it back as well. Thats 8. Sure it would be wonderful to have 9, but its a "waste of our limited resources".

    All I am saying is that WHAT IF Swihart CAN hit and is holding his own behind the plate as well? There is a .350 point difference between him and Leon, approximately, and he can also impact the game with his feet. I am certainly not going to award Swihart Leon's job (or Vasquez's job) based on 10 games, but we will have more information in 3-4 weeks. If Swihart is a much superior offensive force and if he deserves the job because he earned it, if I am Cora I am keeping an open mind about the possibility of delaying Vasquez's return until September when the rosters expand.

    The other thing that Swihart can do that neither Vasquez nor Leon can do is RUN. How many games will he change the outcome of with speed? We aren't likely to run away with the ALE; a game or two could make the difference between the ALE crown and the WC. Its still very early, but if Swihart proves he is better than Vasquez then I would award him the job based on his performance.

    I know its still very early, but what if Swihart continues to prove he can hit the baseball and is at least decent behind the plate? Does he beat out one of our two existing catchers for a job? The two guys we have are good defensively, but neither can hit. I would not rule out Swihart earning a job.

    You have to be kidding me....10 day DL for THAT? The first few days of HFM disease (usually caused by Cocksackie virus, I believe) are rough-high fever, blisters that are most troublesome in the mouth (hard to eat). But its generally a five day illness and no one ever dies of it or even gets complications from it. Overkill....
