  1. Yes, that is Jacko's dream. Unfortunately, for him, this season was his worst nightmare, what with the Sox finishing ahead of the preseason favorite Yankees and ended their season on their home field. I would not trade this season for any other. No Red Sox fan should believe that we are going to play in the WS every year. Its doesn't work that way. For my part, fielding a competitive team and getting into the playoffs for the next few years would be enough.
  2. Henry won't stay under the cap this year. There is too much talent still on this team not to make another run at a ring.
  3. The 04 team managed to get down 0-3 vs the Yankees. This team won more games and, in truth, the outcome of all of the playoff series was never in doubt. They were more dominant than the 04 team, by far. I think the 04 team was more fun to watch-coming back from three games down v the Yankees.....hard to beat that.
  4. Smith should go because he is an idiot. As they say, you can't cure stupid.
  5. Pedroia is toast. I don't know why so many people here are thinking he will contribute in a substantial way to the team next year. He might be able to play occasionally, but his knee is shot. IMO he should retire so he can delay the need for joint replacement surgery.
  6. I also picked Price and was a bit surprised that Pearce won it. But he (Pearce), along with a bunch of other guys, had a great WS.
  7. We were the better team all year. I think to an extent we went into cruise control in September but when October began the guys again played to their abilities. And its not like the Sox were completely healthy either: Sale is clearly not Sale; Nunez is hurt. And against the Dodgers JD banged up his ankle. Lets not blame injuries to the Astros for their loss-they just lost to a great team that got hot at the right time.
  8. As are the Bruins...nonstop action pretty much.
  9. Roberts never had a chance. He didn't have the players to compete with the Red Sox.
  10. Gracious of you. *******.
  11. I had them in five, and I also picked the game they would lose...when I get done patting myself on the back let me say this one word: DOMINATION! From start to finish this is the most dominant Sox team in history. They started out winning 17 of their first 19 games. Never had a losing streak during the year of longer than three games. Won 108 games, more than any other Red Sox team in history. They dispatched the Yankees in four games, winning on their home field after the Yankees won 100 games. They beat the champs in five games after they won 103 games, again on their home field. And of course they won a ring beating a good but overmatched Dodgers team-in five, on their home field. This scenario is likely never going to happen again in our lifetimes. Enjoy it!
  12. Brasier wasn't ready. Kimbrel was I think its as simple as that.
  13. Hope everyone enjoyed the baseball season. After today there will be no more games.
  14. THAT-the fact that our heavy hitters went 0 for 28-is why we lost. Its not going to happen again. That said, Moreland was what-0 for 5? Pearce reached base with a BB in his only appearance. Moreland is Less Moreland today Even less tomorrow.
  15. I am not afraid of Rich Hill, a junk ball thrower. Score first (and I think we will) and this game is ours. Still saying Sox in five. Even if we end up going back to Boston down 3-2 I still think we win the series.
  16. This home plate umpire must be working for the Dodgers...Buehler is getting a lot of balls called strikes that Porcello isn't getting.
  17. Solo HRs are not going to beat this team
  18. I get that, but why start Moreland, whose OPS (as I have written elsewhere here) since July 1 is under .600? Pearce v RHP this year is .828. I think thats a mistake. Even Cora makes mistakes.
  19. I think its a mistake, but lets see how the game goes. For now, I don't like it. I won't like it even more if Moreland goes 0-for whatever and strands runners on base. He is clearly not the better hitter compared to Pearce, and without Benni in the lineup we are already missing a key offensive cog. I would love to be proven wrong.
  20. Pearce has an OPS v RHP of .828 this year; Moreland is at .780-but much of his success at the plate occurred before the ASB. After that his OPS (since July 1) is .597. Thats just not going to cut it. Furthermore, Moreland's ABs don't pass the sniff test lately. He has had a few hits in the playoffs but at times he has looked lost up there, without any plate discipline and unable to catch up to a good fastball. Play Pearce. Moreland can play as a defensive replacement late in the game.
  21. Buehler's splits are nearly identical v righties or lefties. I would start Pierce because Moreland can no longer catch up with a fastball. I think that this game will be our only loss in the series. The Dodgers will be desperate. They hit a lot of HRs and Porcello surrenders a lot of them. I have said Sox in five from the beginning and I am sticking to it. Plan on partying on Sunday.
  22. No, Cora said he is going to be a game time decision. I am sure that if he can run and cover RF he will be in the lineup.
  23. One day (or even two) isn't going to make a lot of difference in his mobility. Either he can go or he can't. The injury looked bad, but we really don't know the severity of it, and the Sox aren't about to tell us. I think that he either plays all three in LA or he sits all three. JMO.
  24. I will stick with dominant, for this year only, obviously. When you win 108 games then relatively easily eliminate two 100+ win teams and, I am assuming, win the championship, thats dominant in my book.
  25. I think there are gradations of sore. There is no question that if his ankle is fine he should play; if its a bit sore but he can move around adequately he plays. If he cannot move there is no point in having him out there. I would also say that if his movement is a bit restricted he should also play. We need his bat.
