  1. Benni looked safe
  2. Not really liking Moreland up here.
  3. And yet we just swept the Yankees....
  4. There is no point in keeping him at all. There are better relief pitchers as well.
  5. Great play by Leon!
  6. This game is about to get out of hand.
  7. There are better options. If there weren't then we keep him. But there are....a lot of them.
  8. Its his overall command-and the fact that he can barely reach 90 with his "fastball"....along with the fact that he has only two pitches.
  9. He cares because he can see his contract for next year disappearing. I have nothing against Pomeranz, but the fact is that there are much better options. I would like to see him DFA'd as soon as ERod returns.
  10. s***** outing by Pomeranz...again. Five walks....no command. Get him out of the rotation please.
  11. No pitcher is going to throw his catcher under the bus. Thats my point: we don't know what the pitchers think about Swihart's ability as a catcher, so to judge how well he is doing you have to look at the objective performance measures that are available and watch the games. That is what I have been doing. I see a catcher whose athletic ability is much better than the other two catchers on the team, a guy whose offensive upside is better, a guy whose defense has been maligned without a good reason (I see him blocking pitches in the dirt and throwing out runners)-and yet he isn't given the credit for this on this board to a large extent. IMO he is earning a place on the postseason roster with his performance if he continues to take advantage of the opportunity he has been presented with.
  12. Exactly. My proposal includes the caveat that Swihart continues to play well and is given more playing time than he had before the Vasquez injury.
  13. What if the catcher can not only play defense but can also hit and win games with his bat and speed? I am not advocating that we keep a catcher who cannot catch defensively. So far Swihart has shown the ability to play defense as well. If he falters in that regard then sure, do not include him on the roster. So far he has actually more than held his own defensively once he was given a chance to play regularly-and has won at least one game with a walk off hit. Data? Vasquez has a dWAR through when he got hurt of -.2. Swihart has a dWAR for the year of -.1. Not much difference. But since Swihart started playing regularly about June 15 his OPS is over .800. Vasquez is under .600. Who do you want on YOUR team? Leon has a dWAR of 0.6 for the year, but his OPS is just over .600. You can argue that Leon should be the other catcher, but IF Swihart keeps playing well he has earned a spot on the postseason roster.
  14. What data? Catcher ERA? I think that is hogwash. Its the pitcher who throws the ball. How many games will Swihart win with his bat or with his legs that Leon would not? Until I hear guys state that they are "more comfortable" with one guy or the other I am going to believe that IF (big if) Swihart can maintain his production with the bat he should displace Vasquez or Leon on the playoff roster.
  15. I have not heard a single Sox pitcher say that they are "more comfortable" with Leon behind the plate. Of course, I wouldn't expect that from them. So your statement is pure conjecture.
  16. The team is winning regardless of who is catching. I have no doubt that the Sox would have swept the Yankees with Swihart catching the games...or Vas....instead of Leon. Swihart has shown in the few games he has played that he is capable defensively and that he is a superior offensive force compared to either Leon or Vasquez. My opinion of him hasn't changed: if he keeps playing the way he is playing he should displace one of the other two guys on the playoff roster.
  17. You can stick a fork in your team as far as the ALE goes Jacko.....they are cooked. Not only are you guys 9 1/2 games behind us but your team has a brutal schedule coming up-and the worst part of it is that the Yankees have to play the Red Sox six more times.
  18. Exactly. The Yankees are closer to missing out on the WC entirely than they are to winning the division, especially if we can complete the sweep. They still have a tough west coast trip as well. Not counting them out of the ALE just yet, but if I were a Yankee fan I would be more worried about making the playoffs than winning the division now.
  19. Lets hope there aren't another two starts.......or even one.
  20. The Yankees are facing a wild card game...if they are lucky.
  21. Its over. Porcello is the hero of the day. Now lets go for the sweep.
  22. Its OK to have Kimbrel ready....but Rick has got to start the inning.
  23. Kimbrel is loosening up.....that is a mistake. Porcello is cruising. No need for Kimbrel.
  24. Porcello picked a great time to have his best game of the year.....
