  1. Red Sox fans are always rooting for what they think is best for the team and its future. This year, unfortunately, that means losing as many games as possible. Sort of a lost year. Next year will be better. Sale should be back at some point next year, and Bloom, who I think will do a good job of rebuilding, will have a year under his belt.
  2. I have my own opinion about it, but I never "wing it" here (by that I mean I never state that something is a medical fact unless I know it is almost certainly true). My opinion is that the virus is doing well (as in proliferating) in warmer climates right now-the Philippines, Indonesia etc. I don't believe temperature is going to make a difference. There is encouraging news about the efficacy of an old antimalarial drug, chloroquin. It seems to interfere with the ability of the virus to bind to receptors in the lungs. Studies have been done in China showing that it is effective in reducing the severity of the disease, but so far its not been studied here. I say give it a try if someone has severe disease. It is highly unlikely to hurt. BTW: where has Jacko been? He is on the front lines in NY as an ER doc as I recall. Hopefully he is keeping out of harms way as much as possible.
  3. Its possible that Italy was testing even fewer people than we have been testing. As testing goes up the numbers will go up too.
  4. One more: "Meanwhile, Israeli company BATM said Thursday it has developed a quick diagnostic kit to test for the coronavirus — and that production was underway at a facility in Rome owned by Adaltis, which produces medical testing devices, the Times of Israel reported."
  5. Available for testing maybe....not sure. Here it says available for safety approval in 90 days: https://nypost.com/2020/02/28/israeli-scientists-claim-to-be-weeks-away-from-coronavirus-vaccine/
  6. Just saw this. Not sure if it means the vaccine is ready for testing soon or if it has already been tested. But its encouraging. I think we will likely have a vaccine within a year. Going to be a tough year though. "Israeli scientists are on the cusp of developing the first vaccine against the novel coronavirus, according to Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within a few weeks and available in 90 days, according to a release. “Congratulations to MIGAL [The Galilee Research Institute] on this exciting breakthrough,” Akunis said. “I am confident there will be further rapid progress, enabling us to provide a needed response to the grave global COVID-19 threat,” Akunis said, referring to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus." It still might take a year to be widely available, but I am sure they are going to fast track this.
  7. I would consider installing a bidet-seriously. Not to get too graphic, but I am having one installed. Not just because of the TP shortage, but because its more hygienic and environmentally friendly. Just got back from Asia and there most countries do not use TP at all. As for baseball-I think its not happening this year. Likely it won't even start on time next year. Just saw that the US is preparing for an 18 month pandemic. Strange times.
  8. The seven Bay Area counties have just went into lock down mode-no one is supposed to leave their house except for essential activities. Its about time they did this-but it is short of what is needed. Practically the whole country should follow suit.
  9. This IS a crisis, trust me. Not trying to paint an overly gloomy picture, but the picture is quite gloomy. Unfortunately the US was slow to act and remains slow to put in place the kind of restrictions that will be needed to cap this and flatten the curve below where it will overwhelm the hospital services our system is capable of providing. Unless folks understand the seriousness of this and behave accordingly we will be in for many months of rationing of care.
  10. They failed to act quickly enough to close the borders to hot zones. They are still not testing nearly enough people, and testing is some areas is not free, or became free only recently. They continue to fail to limit non essential travel and they continue to permit large gatherings of people in one place in most locations such as schools. Kids don't know what "don't touch your face" means. They get mild to assymptomatic infections and can then infect adults. If everyone just eliminated non essential travel for about three weeks this would be gone in this country. Do we have the will to do it? In terms of consequences the virus has now spread to the community and continues to spread. If its not contained there will be insufficient capacity in the hospitals to care for those who are critically ill. I heard that in Italy they are not intubating anyone over age 50, probably because there aren't enough ventilators. We could get there too.
  11. My guess is that its a year away, maybe two. "Close" is a relative term. It will happen. Also, some of the Asian countries are WAY ahead of us in controlling this. Just got back from a diving trip to Indonesia (Bali) and the Philippines, passing through Korea and Taiwan. Korea was hit hard, but is now on the down slope. Taiwan has done a remarkable job controlling this, especially given its proximity to China. Last I read there were only 51 cases on the whole island. We could take a lesson from them. I think that its likely that either Korea or Taiwan will have a vaccine first. Our health care system dropped the ball.
  12. I am buying airline stocks and hotel stocks. They have been decimated. If you hold them for a couple of years you can make a lot of money. This is a blip....it will end and a vaccine will be developed. Hang in there everyone.....and go buy an Elizabethan collar for yourself.
  13. And you know this .....how? Seems to me that the choice for surgery or no surgery is Sale's alone. But the voiding of the contract is not his alone.
  14. Microfracture surgery sucks. The results are quite short term, if they work at all.
  15. 75+/- 3 games
  16. This whole team is a weak link. How many games will they win this year? My guess is 65-70.
  17. Exactly what I was going to post...word for word.
  18. No s*** Sherlock. What makes you think that we are entitled to "the whole story"? Its a fair assumption that we rarely, if ever get the whole story. Sale is going under the knife. And 2020 is going to really suck. I expect that we will be relevant again in two years.
  19. I sure hope so. Bradley has proved what he can do with a bat in his hands here.....and what he can't do. Lets see if we can get a bag of used golf balls for him.
  20. Not to mention the Patriots franchise....and even the Celtics and Bruins. The C's last mediocre season was 13/14 and the Bruins last losing season was 06/07. New England fans have had it good.
  21. I think this is a much better deal for the Sox. Downs could step in and play 2B and Verdugo is a decent OF. I would have loved to get a good SP, but for one year of Betts I think we did OK. This will likely be a down year, and we can choose to sign Betts in 2021.
  22. Because its such a fantastic deal?
  23. Blow it up. This is a huge red flag.
  24. Pretty funny. I remember you writing similar nonsense in 2018, the last year the Sox won the WS. Perhaps you remember that year. Lets play the games first; then talk about a bloodbath.
  25. Betts has made it abundantly clear what his plans are: he is going to test free agency and will almost certainly sign for the most money he can get. That is why its time to trade him for as much as we can get for him. It will be a season or two of holding our noses, but within five years we will be competitive again.
