  1. I read somewhere that in the postseason it’s HRs that are king. We might make it to the playoffs, though I don’t think we have the offense to do it. But while last year just showing up for a guest appearance in October was fine (given the abysmal performances several years before that) this year I want more. We were just missing a few pieces to accomplish that and as usual management did a half assed job of it, fixing the pitching rotation but ignoring the lineup. The fans have every right to question the commitment to winning on the part of ownership.
  2. I’m not referring to extending players or obtaining players by giving up some of our own players. It’s rare that Henry opens up his wallet to pay for top shelf FAs. Who did they get last year when they said they were going “full throttle”? Dregs. And instead of making competitive offers to Schwarber, Alonso-or even Bregman they got lower tier FAs or dregs. And they remain far below average in percentage of revenue spent on upgrading player salaries. That’s telling. There is no real commitment to winning no matter what Henry says. He lies. There is a priority to maximize profits as the expense of winning. Thats fine-it’s his “ball”-but he does owe us honesty. I have an intense dislike for liars. You know as well as everyone here knows what we needed to compete for a ring. That talent was out there and AGAIN this year Henry was too cheap to get it.
  3. Your criticisms have no weight because you have admitted many times that our cheapskate owner should be spending more. As in signing talented FAs like Alonso or Schwarber. When was the last time Henry opened his wallet and agreed to sign a high priced FA? You know-top talent. Thats my point.
  4. Contreras was chosen because he was cheaper than Alonso. I have no problem with getting the backup players. I have a problem with not getting front line players ahead of them solely because Henry isn’t committed to winning. It’s the modus operandi for this ownership group-settling for send line players when better players are available who could make us genuine contenders. Henry is a billionaire. He can’t even use a reasonable percentage of team revenue to improve results. It’s disgusting.
  5. You missed the point. It’s not who we got that bothers me. It’s that we got dregs instead of talented players. The dregs now occupy a roster spot that a much better player should occupy.
  6. That works too. Getting a very good 2B without Gray but with Schwarber or Alonso + Suarez would put us in a good position. But Henry wouldn’t pay for a competitive team. Hey-the Henry’s gotta eat too, right?
  7. Above average isn’t good enough to compete for a ring. Top five is. Think we will be top five? Top 10?
  8. Schwarber or Alonso plus Suarez AND Gray was the proper way to create a competitive team.
  9. Getting the dregs we got doesn’t bother me. Not getting the talent we needed does bother me.
  10. That’s exactly what happened. They did sign Gasper but not Schwarber or Alonso. They could have signed two of them. They didn’t. What I wrote is factually correct.
  11. I think we might be slightly better, not moderately better. Maybe a game or two better. The Yankees got better because Cole is back. The Jays made a couple of major signings and the O’s are much better, likely better than the FLOPS. But hey! We are probably better than the low budget Rays! That’s something, right?
  12. They also signed Durbin and Gasper, both IF-and Contreras. Durbin, Gasper, and IKF aren’t what the team needed.
  13. They didn't need to make a LOT more moves, just the RIGHT moves. Yes, it would have cost Henry more money. Too bad. He certainly has the revenue to do it. If he was honest about wanting to win thats what he would have done. Signing Alonso OR Schwarber and not signing the dumpster dive IF products that WERE signed is all it would take. Just a few changes. And yes, we would have a better team if they did what I suggested: a revamped rotation and a formidable lineup.
  14. You knew as well as anyone what our needs were entering the offseason: a bona fide #2SP and at least one big IF bat. We got half of that, and its not enough for us to seriously contend for a ring.
  15. Thats what I wrote above: EITHER Schwarber OR Alonso PLUS Suarez and Gray. Get rid of the useless Masa and try to trade Duran and Casas. Having Anthony and one of Schwarber or Alonso would stack our lineup. Of course this didn't happen, and everyone here knows why.
  16. I didn't say sign Schwarber INSTEAD of Suarez. They should have signed BOTH of them. We didn't need BOTH Schwarber AND Alonso. One would have been fine. Casas is a problem with or without Schwarber now that they signed Contreras. I'd cut our losses and get whatever we can for Masa even if its a bag of golf balls. Duran can play OF, obviously.
  17. We are talking about position players. I think Breslow did an adequate job fortifying the rotation. Thats why he didn't score an F in my book. Romy could play 2B and we certainly would have enough in the way of utility IF without scoring the dumpster products we signed like IKF and Gasper. You know as well as I know what our needs were. They remain unmet.
  18. Mayer at 3B; Alonso at 1B; Schwarber at DH. Its really not that tough to figure out. Instead they got the immortal IKF and Mickey Gasper and Kaleb Durbin. I can't tell you how impressed I am with Breslow's efforts this offseason. I really can't.
  19. Had they signed Schwarber or Alonso do you think we would have won more games than the dumpster products on offense we did sign?
  20. Correct. Breslow is an incompetent FLOP and Henry is a dishonest cheapskate. Quite a franchise, isn't it. It could be so much better.
  21. 4th. I think we are marginally better than the Rays.
  22. "FLOPS" because they could have been much better in terms of roster this year. Instead of winning 88-90 games they could have been a 95 win team had they signed the available talent.
  23. Its part of the complaints about management. It is fair game for this forum.
  24. And the 2026 Boston Red Flops will miss the playoffs despite winning 88-90 games. Take it to the bank.
